China, Canada reach deals on oil, uranium and air travel
Ottawa Citizen ^ | February 9, 2012 | Jason Fekete

China and Canada declared Thursday that bilateral relations have reached "a new level" following a series of multibillion-dollar trade and business agreements to ship additional Canadian petroleum, uranium and other products to the Asian superpower.

.....................................................

Harper has said building pipelines to the West Coast — such as the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway oilsands pipeline and a separate one for liquefied natural gas — is a national priority as Canada looks to ship its vast resources to Asia.

Enbridge CEO Pat Daniel said the commitment by the Chinese and Canadian governments for a strategic energy partnership will allow Canada to diversify its oil-and-gas export markets beyond the United States and enable China to broaden its supply base.

FUBR and FU Robert Redford. The only thing you achieved is Canadian oil will be shipped to China instead of the US. We will still be at the mercy of Middle Eastern thugs and Hugo Chavez.

Ha-Haa Cue Nelson !

Not only a huge oil deal but to punk Obama, PM Harper is also going to sell plenty of Uranium to China. Like that`s going to end up for civilian use only.

How is it that Alberta is going full speed at exploiting the oil sands when the typical stereotype of Canada consisting of a lot more leftists than say in the US? Don’t the weenies in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver get all upset about the “spoiling” of the pristine Alberta environment and all the “greenhouse” gases? Because of Canada’s Constitution which from I understand gives the Provinces much more power than the states Alberta can give the middle finger to Toronto?

They still have to go thru lots of environmental reviews, which is a federal responsibility.

To ship all that oil and gas to China from Alberta, new pipelines to the Pacific coast (Kitimat) are required, which must also go thru the enviro-review process. And this is where the eco-nuts are trying to stop it, by choking the process with a flood of “citizens” wanting to be heard. In reality, of course, most are the usual leftist “professional protestors” that show up at every event, and a lot aren’t even Canadian.

Send your closest allies and their natural resources to your enemies. Is this the new American foreign policy?

Doesn't seem like a good idea to me, but, what do I know?

“Send your closest allies and their natural resources to your enemies. Is this the new American foreign policy?”

It’s from our Kenyan Sun-Tzu. “Make sure your enemies prosper and your friends are alienated so that hopefully your foe dies of confusion and the battle is won without firing a shot”

To be sure Enviro-Whackos are capable of a lot of things. But I really don’t think they want to try and stand between the ChiComs and their energy supply. It can’t possibly end well for them.

By your remark, to which I am replying; If Redford were to actually see and read your remark, it would probably make him very happy. He would probably be very happy to see the U.S.A. at the mercy of Chavez. IMHO

FWIW: Alberta may indeed flip the bird at Toronto; but just for the record, the Capitol of Canada is Ottawa.

If it were not for their stupid gun laws up there and socialised medicine, I'd consider moving to Canada, preferably Alberta.
