McSally is also the first woman to command a USAF fighter squadron, the 354th Fighter Squadron (354 FS) based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

in 2001 Martha McSally successfully challenged the military policy that required US and UK servicewomen stationed in Saudi Arabia to wear the body-covering abaya when traveling off base in the country.

She just wants to force women back into the kitchen and the bedroom. She's a Republican, isn't she? That's what all those people want./s

If she had done nothing else this would get my vote. Anyone that stands up to the islamofacists and those spineless PC people in our Government and Military is my hero.

There was another thread on the subject, containing more info on her career as the first woman combat pilot and other issues.

I am vehemently against women in combat, but that wasn’t caused by Col McSally. That is more of a PC issue and women in the military.

Forget Congress, would she be interested in running for Obama’s job?

McSally, who retired from the Air Force as a colonel, was also the first woman in United States history to fly in combat, and the first woman to lead a squadron into combat, in the skies above Iraq and Afghanistan. McSally is a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force Academy, earned her Master’s Degree, in Public Policy, from the JFK School of Government at Harvard, and in 1995 was one of only seven active duty Air Force officers selected for the prestigious Legislative Fellowship Program in Washington. She spent the last few years teaching military and foreign affairs to world leaders at the George C. Marshall Center in Germany.

She’s also champion triathlete and has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro

Wow, triathlete.

That is one serious woman.

She'll need toughness fighting against the weepy demonRAT that is running.

His qualifications were he got shot last year when Giffords was shot.

He is going for the sympathy vote.

“McSally, who retired from the Air Force as a colonel, was also the first woman in United States history to fly in combat, and the first woman to lead a squadron into combat, in the skies above Iraq and Afghanistan”

Iraq and Afghanistan had an Air Force that the US Air Force engaged in combat? That’s a new one on me. Flying camels I guess.

That, IMO, is a distinct and very large mark AGAINST her. I'm not sure which is worse "Master's Degree in Public Policy", "JFK School of Government", or "Harvard". They're all hideous.

Lots here:

“...She is the fifth Republican to declare for the GOP primary, following state Sen. Frank Antenori; sports broadcaster and businessman Dave Sitton; Jesse Kelly, who narrowly lost to Giffords in 2010; and John Lervold of Sierra Vista.”

They should choose someone more conservative in that district IMHO.

If she is a Pub all the better as she has some character, decency and honor as a person and a ‘woman’——too bad women have allowed greed and worldly desire to think the way to be better, bigger and more successful is to desert the role the Lord in His Wisdom intended ‘raise and discipline children’, the only future of any true worth——since women have taken to the marketplace and work areas, how is life doing ‘in the fast lane’?—more women are dying from formerly mens disease, more kids are delinquents, more divorce is the norm, more unhappy women roam around complaining “they cant find a decent man”-—maybe if they became a decent and loving wife and mother our America would have a future for all people-—now the birth rates of whites is an all time low and the Muslims are on track to take over in less than 50 yeara by turning out kids 6-8x above all other races and sects-—enjoy your wonderful lives while you are able (then we all pay the price in the future)—cheers

She’s just showboating for a future political career, just like Dubya on the Abraham Lincoln with his “mission accomplished” sign that he was personally waving in a flight suit that was just for showboating./sarc

.....when your in a fix and need close support from an A-10 while the taliban is around....and that A-10 loses satellite targeting capabilities but the pilot sticks around and proceeds manually to target and fire that 30mm cannon with ground “eyes” guiding the pilot and your ass is still in one piece....I’d think the pilot as a hero, woman or not....

I’d oppose women in infantry combat and naval vessels, especially subs. But combat flight is something they can and perhaps should do, so long as they know what might happen to them if captured.
