Catholics Go To Court To Resist Unjust HHS Edict. The Rising Tide of Catholic Resistance
Catholic Online ^ | 2/10/12 | Deacon Keith Fournier

Posted on 02/10/2012 6:00:08 AM PST by tcg

Over the last two weeks Catholics have heard read letters read at Mass which were written by the Catholic Bishops of the United States. We have been asked to rise up in prayer, fasting, Catholic Action in response to an unjust Edict issued by Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, on January 20, 2012.

This mandate requires all employers, including Catholic and other religious employers, to cover sterilization, abortifacients, and contraception in their health care plans. The "exemption" provided for religious employers does not cover hospitals, universities, soup kitchens, outreaches to the poor and many other vital expressions of our Catholic faith and mission.

Catholics understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ demands a response which goes beyond the walls of our Church buildings. We are our brother and sister's keeper. We do not reach out to people in need because they are Catholic. We reach out to people in need because we are Catholic.

This HHS Edict is a violation of the Free Exercise of Religion which is protected under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. It is an unjust law in the clearest sense of the expression. The Federal Government of the United States is trying to force the Catholic Church to act against its deeply held religious convictions and to violate conscience.

Failure to do so will bring punitive measures upon the Church and her institutions. This will occur in the form of onerous fines. They would have the practical result of closing many of the Church's outreaches, ministries and institutions of care and compassion. Certainly this not only injures the Church it injures American society...

It is increasingly apparent that President Obama and his administration do not respect fundamental human rights including the Right to life and the Right to Religious Freedom. The Nation we love is slowly devolving into a secularist State. However, this recent Edict has given rise to a Catholic tide of resistance and a New Catholic Action.

I am not a Catholic and many of the church’s positions are not what I believe. That said, I will do everything I can to support the Catholics in this battle. I did not ever think that I would live in a time when the Constitution would be so easily ignored.

Many believe that the Catholic church will roll over to Obama in the end when push comes to shove so that they do not offend all of the the illegal aliens (can you spell ‘money’ numbers as parishioners’?) that the church has chosen to give sanctuary.

Obama told us who he was before the election and Catholic leaders who ignored all of the stop signs have only themselves to blame. Obama will now slightly backpedal to appear reasonable...will the gullible be fooled again?

It doesn’t take being Catholic to understand what is going on here, its about the constitution and every man’s God given rights. Obama hates the fact that he is bound by the constitution and that his power us limited by it. He is acting like a dictator, flamboyant, hateful and arrogant. He is purposely audacious in his actions so as to shock and awe society into thinking he wields more power than he actually has. The man is a bastard sun of a bitch and actually should be impeached for his trouncing on the constitution.

There are many groups that made a deal with the devil and endorsed Obamacare and they were screwed in the end when the law specifics were revealed.

Church leaders who supported ObamaCare now outraged

Obama breaks Obamacare promise to drug companies

Well, Obama’s promise to pass Obamacare lasted about a year.

The White House’s new deficit plan has the drug industry crying foul, and that means Big Pharma may now join Big Insurers to push back on health reform.
Drug industry sources tell FOX Business the Administration is backtracking on what is called the “PhRMA deal” in health reform, a deal that was struck behind closed doors in late 2009 and early 2010 in order to get the industry to support and endorse health-care reform.

For those who are not catholic, it would be helpful to review the document, Humanae Vitae. This is the official Church position re: birth control.
Heck...most catholics haven’t read it either.

Funny...I haven’t noticed one mention of this important document during all of this hoopla...in articles or tv news.

Many believe that because we have spent decades watching american bishops roll over.
It is encouraging to see that there is, indeed, a line in the sand.

Why does anybody care what that Administration does? Only Congress can make laws. Any edict from the President can ONLY affect the employees of the Executive Branch. People merely have to ignore that sleazebag.

Obama will retreat on this, Catholics will believe he won't intrude on their beliefs and once again they will vote for the “Social Justice” President. After he is safely elected he will turn on them and they will find, once again, you shouldn't believe what a snake says. There is a reason Mary crushed the head of the serpent.

Like I said, its not about birth control, its about Government (Obama) dictating to the nation what will and won’t be. It’s about the constitution, period. First, birth control, then no right to hire who you want, then the sky is the limit. Whatever Government sees as the “better good”, that better good then outweighs individual rights and freedom. Not to diminish the Catholic’s stand on birth control, but this is a test case for the little dictator, a test to see if he can implement all he needs to, to “fundamentally change America”.

Interesting development this morning, a trial balloon that’s just been waiting to float into consciousness—the idea of succumbing to Sharia because of Constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion. Rat mouthpiece Sally Kohn opined that if the administration gave in on this issue (purportedly of women’s health) we were paving the way for Sharia. The statement was odd, considering the Left’s usual sensitivity about all things Islam (imagine: threatening Americans with the evils of Sharia!), but it was chilling nonetheless. Not simply because Sharia’s scary, but because the analogy wasn’t immediately invalidated.

I don’t think it is an “either” “or” issue. It is both. It is all of the above.
This is a good issue for them to start with because they are such avid believers in the pro-death culture.

If we can hold the line here, it will prevent him from succeeding with similar shenanigans.

That law has been passed, its called Obamacare, and in it are provisions that give HHS nearly unlimited powers. Congress can pass laws to curtail those powers, but the law is there... the zombie foot is in the door, it will take and act of congress to prevent any more of the rotting corps from dining at our table and ordering up whatever the hell he wants.

If you think that even a minority of illegal aliens attend Mass let alone contribute to the collection, you’re a bigger fool than Soetoro.
