Did social media just prematurely kill off the leader of North Korea?
Rumours that Kim Jong-un, the countrys supreme leader, has been assassinated just months after he took power originated on Chinese microblogging service Weibo and have now spread all over Twitter.
Others are reporting that Jong-un may be on the run rather than dead, but that some kind of coup is taking place.
The rumours remain unsubstantiated, and as Adrian Chen at Gawker wrote, these types of reports crop up often given the furtive nature of North Koreas government.
However, the reports are beginning to gather steam, especially now that a couple of American news outlets have reported on the rumors.
Weibo is in many ways the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, and disseminates news at a rapid pace. People were tipped off that there was something happening that involved Jong-Un, who succeeded his later father Kim Jong-Il, because of the mass of cars parked outside of his resident.
One person on Weibo wrote (poor translation), confirmed reports, the top leaders in # Korea # # jinzhengen was assassinated # . Reportedly occurred at 2:45 on the 10th, gold and three fat was assassinated in their own villa, the Korean Embassy in Beijing has brought together more than 30 cars, the scale of more than Kim Jong-ils death the situation.

What do you hear?
Either way the psy ops is effective.
Looks like China finally had enough.
I take it that he was killed for being fat and rich?
Understandable in a country where the common people are eating tree bark to survive.
For some reason, I just can’t picture Kim “Pork Chop” Jong-un as being “on the run”. I don’t think that boy can move that fast.
Who will bring fish to the people now?
Wasn't that a Nork remark of one of the James Bond movies?
If true, could be good, could be bad. Either way, to bad the news is not about someone else on a Chinese Campaign Fund raiser.
Now on Reuter’s..
*PING* to two of my favorite FReepers, you guys hearing anything of interest about Kim Jong Un becoming “un-alive”? ;)
“that some kind of coup is taking place”
even if true, it is impossible, this soon, to determine if that is a good sign or not
neither extreme instability at the leadership level, or a very successful and complete coup automatically mean security benefits for South Korea
instability could cause those with sufficient control to produce a major incident with South Korea, as a nationalistic measure and means for consolidating control under the “national emergency”
those who produce a successful coup could have chosen to do so because they believed the leaders were NOT SUFFICIENTLY hardline toward’s the South
the U.S. and S, Korea simply need “all antennas” up, and wait and see
in the meantime, extra preparedness measures would be a prudent thing to do
It’s either ‘good’ guys against ‘bad’ guys, or ‘bad’ guys against ‘bad’ guys. Either the ‘bad’ guy was ‘too bad’ or ‘not bad enough’.
North Korea is very mountainous.
He can roll down hill with the best of them.
No, that was a porn-industry knockoff of Bond movie. Full title, “Gold and Three Fat Ho”
ya did good...... very good. Straight to the horses mouth
Either way, purges are coming.
