Former Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey will not run for Senate
Senate Update - Jim DeMint - Email | 02/10/2012 | Senator Jim DeMint

Fellow Conservatives:

Former Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey announced this week that he will not run for the open seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Senator Ben Nelson. Kerrey's decision eliminates the Democrats' strongest possible recruit and all but guarantees that the winner of the Republican primary will be the next Senator from Nebraska.

This is great news, but now the question is whether Nebraska's next senator will be a true conservative we can trust or another establishment Republican who lets us down after the election.

Thanks to your support, conservative champion Don Stenberg is gaining momentum in the race for U.S. Senate in Nebraska.

According to our latest poll of likely Republican primary voters, Stenberg has nearly erased a 23-point deficit in the past seven months and now only trails the frontrunner by 5 points.

This is very encouraging, but we can't let up.

The primary election in Nebraska is just three and a half months away -- so time is short. In fact, Stenberg's chief opponent is spending $60,000 on a new television ad that began earlier this week.

We can't let this advertising go unanswered.

That is why the Senate Conservatives Fund has launched an online "surge" to match this investment dollar-for-dollar by raising $60,000 for Don Stenberg's campaign by tomorrow, Saturday, February 11.

Why this Saturday? Because the first debate in Nebraska is this Saturday and Don Stenberg's chief rival is ducking it.

Now is the time for grassroots conservatives in Nebraska and across the nation to send the Republican establishment this message:

"You can try to ignore and out-spend our candidates, but we're not going to let you do it without a fight."

I started the Senate Conservatives Fund for races exactly like this one. In the past, principled candidates would most likely lose. But now there's an army of freedom-loving Americans ready to battle by their side.

If you're able to contribute funds, now is the time to do it.

Please visit our website today and make a secure, online contribution to Don Stenberg's campaign.

Senator Ben "Cornhusker Kickback" Nelson must be replaced with a rock-solid conservative. We can do it if we work together.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers.

Respectfully,

Jim DeMint
United States Senator
Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund

Not to be confused with senator John Kerrey who served in Vietnam.

Bob Kerrey must have realized it was over the day in 2009 that the communists were chasing him down the street in Manhattan.
