Jeb Bush Could Emerge As GOP Nominee At A Brokered Convention, Says Top Republican By TOBY HARNDEN 11th February 2012

Al Cardenas, head of the American Conservative Union, has said that Republican turmoil might lead to a brokered convention in which Jeb Bush, former Florida governor, would emerge as a 'possible alternative' party nominee.

Mr Cardenas, who is running this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a gathering in Washington of some 10,000 conservatives, told MailOnline that it was not certain that one of the four current Republican candidates would emerge victorious.

His comments came as Republicans fretted publicly about the perceived weaknesses of Mitt Romney, the establishment choice and frontrunner, Rick Santorum, surprise winner in three states on Tuesday, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul.

President Bush? Jeb Bush could emerge as the Republican candidate, according to a senior figure in the GOP

Jeb Bush, former Florida governor and younger brother of President George W. Bush, has repeatedly said he will not run in 2012. He is one of a number of senior figures who disappointed activists and party officials alike by staying on the sidelines.

'We'll know more in the next few weeks,' said Mr Cardenas. 'The pressure’s already been on Mitt Romney to close the sale... and he hasn’t.' A split verdict on 'Super Tuesday' on March 6th, when 10 states vote, could lead to a surprise at the Republican convention in Tampa in August, he suggested.

No Bush could beat Obama right now. His brother, whom I like, was NOT a true conservative President. He went too far toward accommodation for Dems and did not stringently use the bully pulpit for things that really did matter for conservatism.

No Jeb! No how!

Doesn’t the US have any other sources from which to draw candidates? Or is the result all rigged by the elites?

The question answers itself.

Who the hell will vote for Bush IV? Enough with Bushes, Kennedys and the such.

That's disrespecting the candidates and the voters, to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

These cynical GOP insiders really really hate their conservative base.

Ok, you don’t like our hand picked boy, maybe you’d like another Bush.

They look at the democrats and come down with bad case of Base Envy.

He was nearly perfect as a Governor here in Fl.

His NAME will turn so many people away I can not imagine his being a good candidate.

Family (not he personally) problems would be impossible to overcome if the press decides to go after them all. Sex, Drugs, and Import tax problems are messy!

He is not a duplicate of George but may not be good on immigration and was forced not to push for drilling off the Florida coast at the time he served. People are still against it, thinking of their own property values.

How stupid are these clowns? Gingrich and Romney the two best candidates to lose to Obambi and now they want to throw another sure loser into the mix.

There may be other republicans that could jump in last minute and beat Zero, Ryan and DeMint, but not this idiot Jeb Bush.

Good grief do these tools want to lose ?

“These cynical GOP insiders really really hate their conservative base”

They certainly look down on them.

My impression of the insiders that I have met is that they have a lot more in common with their Democratic Party counterparts than they do with the conservative voters whose support they feel entitled to.

Somehow, I doubt that when the names on your ballot are Jeb Bush and Barack Obama, you’ll leave the line blank.

The argument that Jeb Bush isn’t electable is a good one. The argument that Jeb Bush is unacceptable AS President is absurd.

We could do a LOT worse than Jeb Bush. We could do a lot better, but I’d take Jeb Bush in an instant if it meant no Romney.

Trust me, I would have no problem leaving the line blank if these were my only choices.
