Open Letter to the Rick Santorum Campaign

To: The Rick Santorum Campaign

Dear Folks,

Would the handlers of Rick Santorum please consider some advice from a Santorum supporter?

We must defeat Barack Obama in November. Historically, when you have an Ultra-Liberal running, they can only be defeated by a Conservative; not a Moderate. I believe that Rick Santorum is that Conservative candidate for 2012. However, I am concerned that, like so many candidates in the past, Rick will derail the momentum that he currently has.

Could his "handlers" please tell Rick that he does NOT have to answer every question that comes his way "off the cuff". What's wrong with saying: "Let me get back with you on that" and, just keep walking. I wish he would have given some thought to his comment re: women in battle. That was kinda lame. Although I, a Southern Conservative, agree with him, statements like that will NOT help him with the general public.

Slow down Rick. Engage brain (you have a good one) before putting mouth in gear.

Ditch the sweater vests on your dorky sons and please don’t wear pictures of your baby... it’s sick.

He probably thinks its the one he took home with him when it died at birth. I don’t think the picture he wears is the one of the one that passed. I think it is Bella.

I do however, think it is VERY strange that he took a dead child home for him and his wife to be with it.

I think he will be grilled by the MSM and for that matter disliked by many for that alone if he is the republican nominee.

The anger against Obama was primarily based on his economic policies. Santorum does not differ from Obama on this front. On social issues, the anger has been very sporadic, briefly during Obamacare mentioning abortion and again in the past two days.

Santorum has a very poor record on fiscal issues. If he wins, it will be the same old politics again - conservative rhetoric on social issues for us and money for politicians who want to plunder. That is not what we want.

Ok, so how many people do you know who wear a picture of their disabled child (or sibling)?

Sounds like a political ploy, “I have a disabled baby, vote for me”. Sorry, that’s what it looks like to me.

Not to get too involved with Santorum, but a quick search reaveals:

“But in Iowa this afternoon, Santorum explained that it was important for his other children to “know they had a brother.”

Not quite a “wake”. This will be pointed out. Just sayin’

I did not understand it as the women’s emotions. I didn’t hear it live but i thought he meant men’s emotions, meaning that en are naturally going to want to defend women first, as they protect their moms, sisters, daughters at home.

You are doing a great job, Senator! Remember though that when you get donations online, it’s a total waste of your money to keep sending $0.22 envelopes to their home. Multiples per donation. They obviously prefer easy online donations. But thanks for the bumpersticker — it’s on my car in SoCal!!

“I do however, think it is VERY strange that he took a dead child home for him and his wife to be with it.”

Everybody did that a few decades ago, including having the body laid out in the house parlor. Doing this with their baby perhaps allowed the other children to understand the humanity of their late sibling, connect with it as a true part of the family, and reinforce respect for all life.

Of course the MSM will pounce on that issue, as they don’t have respect for all life and, to them, the baby is no more than a fetus. Of course they, and all libs, won’t “get it”.

Well, my mother lost two babies - late term. I know I had two brothers who died before they were born.

I’m quite grateful that my parents didn’t bring home their bodies for me to see.

Everybody deals with loss in a different way. I don’t fault them for what they did... but I think it is a political ploy to wear pictures of Bella on the campaign trail. He is fully aware of how much political capital he receives from having a disabled, ill little girl.

I am a Newt supporter all the way. However, I will enthusiastically support Rick if he is the nominee, as he is light years better than Mitt.

That said, if I also can give Rick some advice-—stop the family standing behind you during a speech! If I felt uncomfortable watching it at home, imagine how the crowd in the room felt. I kept staring at the kids, waiting for one of them to act like, well, a KID.

When you have a baby who dies, and little children at home anxious to see their baby brother in mommy’s tummy, get back to us on what you would do.

Obama wanted to just dump babies who somehow survived an abortion into the trash to die. Well, the Santorums thought their precious baby who passed away deserved respect and love from the whole family. Not a mistake to be swept away but a valued member of the family with a tiny job to do here on earth. The other children got to see life, and death, in their little brother. They could understand a lot better than if the parents had come home alone. That would have been too difficult and possibly scary for the kids at home awaiting a baby.

The worst thing that can happen to you on this earth is to lose a baby. Not everyone grieves the same. They wanted to grieve as a family. They had their funeral at home with their children. Maybe you’d have done it differently but give the santorums enough kind sympathy to grieve in their way.

DO NOT criticize until you've walked in those shoes.

I've been there. Mine was a very early miscarriage, but that baby, and it was a baby not just tissue, was so precious to me. I took mine home too. I spent some quality time....parts of 2 days with my only child. I cherish those memories. I cried the whole time, but I remember everything about that time.

The Dr. said he had begun to disintegrate inside of me, so he lived in a pint jar. I sat him on the counter and talked to him while I baked him some cookies. I had promised him a ride on my horse. My husband thought I was totally nuts, but I held my ground and now I'm so glad I did.

I knew deep in my heart that it was time to say good-bye and bury him. In his little coffin, which was just a wooden jewelry box about 3 inches square, I put something from me, a tiny quilt, and something from his father a farmer, some corn shucks.

I closed the little box up and saddled old Spot. I forced John to come along and dig the grave. With some cloth, I made a sling and cradled the coffin for his ride on a horse.

We had to walk along the road for about a quarter mile before we could climb the hill overlooking the river where I wanted to bury him. Along the way we encountered the neighbor who stopped to see why we were carrying a shovel and walking beside the horse and carrying flowers.

Suddenly, the neighbor caught on to what we were doing and he burst into tears.

You have no idea how much peace the Santorum family must have received from their actions.

The hospital might have tossed her babies info the medical waste. Traditionally that was done to unborn deceased babies. Sad. Very sad. It was thought (and still is in some religions sadly including my own) that a child isnt mourn-able until it has drawn breath. Ultrasound and eons of mourning mamas should put an end to that.

The conservatives are just going to have to face the reality that they are going to get booby-trapped questions and whatever answer they give will be distorted by the old media.

They are going to have to avoid the old media as much as possible and try to get their message out in ways in the new media.

I am holding my baby here in the dark (with my iPad) and shedding tears for your loss. I am so very sorry. I am also sorry that was your only child. I lost 2 early on, but went on to have two more who made it. Each time I lost one, I planted a tree in my yard.

Some people come from Gd with only a smaller task to do here so they go back to Him very quickly. But your child had his job here as your story describes.

Thanks so much for your comments.

That happened in 1988 in the middle of the worst drought the Midwest had ever seen. It was a real turning point in my life.

About 2 months after that, my husband announced to me that he no longer loved me and would not miss me when I was gone. All this long before Lacy Peterson and all the other women.

I took the hint and moved out as I suspected he would be capable of anything. I had just turned 41.

I had no place to go but had seen an ad for a dorm room for $100.00 a month. So I applied for admission to the college and was accepted and given a teaching position.

Precisely. Let’s face it — the first part of romney’s distorted quote wasn’t true, and it wasn’t the bad part about what he said, but just the words “I don’t care about the very poor” make him out to be a Mumbai slumlord.

Remember that a majority of voters thought Sarah palin said “I can see Russia from my house.”

Senator Santorum, you’d be wise to remember that. When SNL mocks you, as long as they don’t go below the belt, be of good humor about it, but mention it, so that there is a quote and video your supporters can play for all the morons who get confused. It is a badge of honor to be mocked on SNL so just take it with a grin.

I heard that misportrayed on O’Reilly last night. Didn’t stay tuned in to hear how Ingraham handled it.

Santorum did not suggest that women are too emotional to be in combat. He said that emotions are involved that need discussion...(something along that line.)

What he obviously meant was male/female relationships in the midst of the most death-defying situations that can be imagined.

While he didn’t speak of average male versus female strength, it is an issue in combat because the males will feel a need to save the females.

If there’s an emotional relationship between a male and female in the same unit, either will do their utmost to save their love DESPITE THE MISSION.

Then there is the jealousy of competition for the affections of some male or female.

And, of course, there is pregancy, which will empty a unit of one more warrior in their unit.

There is a whole host of other “emotion” based difficulties that make this a terrible idea.

Anyone know how Ingraham handled it?

In all world cultures, men protect women. Boys often proudly protect their mamas. I have 3 sons who always tried to. It would be near de-civilizing these young men to train them to treat women like just another guy.

We have enough trouble with domestic violence now.

What you say is true, there are different reactions to the loss of a child. We lost our 18 year old son and I could not bear to even look at his body. I closed my eyes when I approached his casket.

I find the fact that the Santorums took their dead child home so the other children could hold it a little bit creepy. How will the children look back on this event when they are grown?

Santorum is an excellent candidate and a very principled man who is unabashedly conservative, with no skeletons as of yet. Romney is unacceptably liberal, and Newt is just Newt, and not electable. We HAVE to have someone who is conservative yet electable. If it’s not Santorum, then let’s find him or her.

One of the things I like about Sarah Palin is that she gets that it's not all about politics and elections.

Culture and the conduits of information are probably more important.

Some people who agree with Santorum (or Newt) on 99 percent of things are not going to vote for him because the forces of culture are going to convince them he has cooties.

We have a fight ahead of us.

The way to answer it is: Under Barack Obama, the US economy has lost 5 million jobs. The real unemployment rate is closer to 15%. Our rating has been downgraded and a second downgrade is in sight. Obama is the Food Stamp President. Our nation is heading for the cliff and Obama has the pedal to the metal.

My priority is to turn this around before the Democrats and Obama destroy the economy. They do not want jobs for Americans. Their priority is to transform America from a constitutional Republic into something else.

Why don't you ask Obama what he plans to transform America into?

Now, do you have a question about how a Santorum Administration will turn this country around? That's what your viewers are interested in.

The Campaigns should be able to have prepared answers to most of the questions they are likely to get. However, instead of saying, I will get back to you (which the media will portray as “I don’t know, I am an idiot” like they did to Palin, a better answer would be, “We have been looking seriously into this and will be releasing a full response/plan etc in the days ahead.”

Anyone know how Ingraham handled it?

She had 2 women guests on and the 3 of them discussed it. Ingraham pointed out that Rick Santorum clarified it later in the day -- as meaning men will instinctively want to protect women and that that could jeopardize a successful mission (when I heard the comments he made about this originally, I knew he meant just what he meant when he later clarified his meaning, because this has been correctly characterized as the problem by others).

Yes, ultimately, that is the question:

.....how a Santorum Administration will turn this country around?

These Santorum supporters need to realize that he will be picked apart--- nothing is sacred-- yes, something as personal as the death of a child. Quit bashing people for stating opinions that you KNOW will be stated again and again and again. Get over it.

Santorum is ultimately better than what we have now. But the question is can he beat the democratic machine? That is the big question.

It seems to go along with a general self-destructive attitude. “No, we don’t want to win. We want to judge and fixate upon the actions, motivations, and mental state of our candidates in non-relevant past situations, to the point that we make it increasingly difficult for them to win, and that we give ammunition to the dark side so that they can defeat us”.

I’m not sure why we’re doing it; I’m just sure that we are doing it.
