Open Letter to the Rick Santorum Campaign

To: The Rick Santorum Campaign

Dear Folks,

Would the handlers of Rick Santorum please consider some advice from a Santorum supporter?

We must defeat Barack Obama in November. Historically, when you have an Ultra-Liberal running, they can only be defeated by a Conservative; not a Moderate. I believe that Rick Santorum is that Conservative candidate for 2012. However, I am concerned that, like so many candidates in the past, Rick will derail the momentum that he currently has.

Could his "handlers" please tell Rick that he does NOT have to answer every question that comes his way "off the cuff". What's wrong with saying: "Let me get back with you on that" and, just keep walking. I wish he would have given some thought to his comment re: women in battle. That was kinda lame. Although I, a Southern Conservative, agree with him, statements like that will NOT help him with the general public.

Slow down Rick. Engage brain (you have a good one) before putting mouth in gear.

Teams—football teams, baseball teams, hockey teams, you-name-it—frequently wear initials, pictures, symbols of ill or recently deceased teammates on their uniforms. It’s a tribute.

What do you mean? We have a proper ceremony in a funeral home or at a churh.. So “tossing your dead children away without a second thought seems normal” as you say maybe seems normal only to you? I really don’t get what you mean? What is wrong with a private ceremony or private wake in a church?

I think there is a lot of judging going on in this race.

You know nothing about my past either or about anyone else posting either, so I ask you to hold back also.

The Campaigns should be able to have prepared answers to most of the questions they are likely to get. However, instead of saying, I will get back to you (which the media will portray as “I don’t know, I am an idiot” like they did to Palin, a better answer would be, “We have been looking seriously into this and will be releasing a full response/plan etc in the days ahead.”

Anyone know how Ingraham handled it?

She had 2 women guests on and the 3 of them discussed it. Ingraham pointed out that Rick Santorum clarified it later in the day -- as meaning men will instinctively want to protect women and that that could jeopardize a successful mission (when I heard the comments he made about this originally, I knew he meant just what he meant when he later clarified his meaning, because this has been correctly characterized as the problem by others).

Yes, ultimately, that is the question:

.....how a Santorum Administration will turn this country around?

These Santorum supporters need to realize that he will be picked apart--- nothing is sacred-- yes, something as personal as the death of a child. Quit bashing people for stating opinions that you KNOW will be stated again and again and again. Get over it.

Santorum is ultimately better than what we have now. But the question is can he beat the democratic machine? That is the big question.

It seems to go along with a general self-destructive attitude. “No, we don’t want to win. We want to judge and fixate upon the actions, motivations, and mental state of our candidates in non-relevant past situations, to the point that we make it increasingly difficult for them to win, and that we give ammunition to the dark side so that they can defeat us”.

I’m not sure why we’re doing it; I’m just sure that we are doing it.

So, the issue is really men’s instincts, not women’s emotions. Just prove that on top of hating women, Santorum hates men. QED

They had a wake at home. What’s wrong with that?

When I was young the dead family was brought to the home and layed in state for 3 days before the actual burial.

I have no clue why this was the custom, maybe before embalming was required, they wanted to make sure the family member was dead, Of course after embalming became law, I guess the tradition carried over, still does among the Irish community, I think.

I’m quite grateful that my parents didn’t bring home their bodies for me to see.

Customs change, some hold on to their traditions, some don't.

We used to sing My Country Tis of Thee every morning, don't you wish we still did that? We lose our traditions, we lose our freedom.

Thanks CW. I’m glad she clarified, but I wish they hadn’t used the lead-in that Santorum had said women are too emotional. How many heard that and went away thinking that’s what Santorum said?

I heard one of the Fox N Romneybots say this morning: Santorum is going to have answer for endorsing Romney in 2008.

At the point of Santorum’s endorsement in 2008, it was really down to Romney or McCain. Huckabee was still in it but seemed to have a losing hand.

Essentially, Santorum voted against McCain. Why after working together with McCain in the Senate?

I’d say it’s because he had worked with McCain in the Senate...he KNEW McCain was a liberal, and Romney was playing his “I’ve changed” card.

Well, it turns out afterwards that he hadn’t changed. Shortly after the 2008 campaign he again support gay unions, going back on the change he’d proclaimed during the primary season.

I kept staring at the kids, waiting for one of them to act like, well, a KID.

Wow, you have to dream up this kind of stuff to get offended. His children manage to practice some measure of social decorum in a difficult atmosphere, and because they didn’t hit one another or throw some spitballs at the audience you are offended?

We are worse off as a Nation than I wanted to believe, when perfectly normal civilized behavior is offensive. I guess he should have brought in some OWS kids to make you feel comfortable.

Mark Levin has said over and over that IF he could vote in Virginia for his candidate (he can’t because the Republicans in VA played the game) that he’d vote for Santorum or Bachmann. He has been adamant about that. His reasoning is that he “likes the way they think” and “doesn’t have to practice to define conservatism; he just says what is in his heart). Levin worked for Reagan. Any such endorsement is fine with me.

Santorum/West would be a fine ticket indeed... Any other ticket (including Palin) would be awesome as well.

PS The Mandate issue with Obama against the Catholic Bishops has framed the major debate and Santorum hit it out of the park. Do you really want the government intruding so fully into your life at every moment of your existence? That is where this election is headed. And many religious figures of all persuasions are siding with Santorum.

Anyone know how Ingraham handled it?

I watched part of it but had to use fast forward so much it sickened me. There must have been 20 clips of Obama saying something, reminded me of the old Soviet Empire where you could not escape the image of the Great Leader. The Bloviator in chief can deny all he wants, but they are in the tank for Romney. The lead in and talking points were awful. Laura can join Ann and her group, she now belongs there.

I never watch their show live, always record them and edit them for content. :)

It would be near de-civilizing these young men to train them to treat women like just another guy.

Well Said.

I kept staring at the kids, waiting for one of them to act like, well, a KID.

That attitude is more than a little disturbing. When my kids were growing up, my wife and I took pride in how the conducted themselves in public. We knew we could take them to restaurants, movie theaters and even concert halls, without fear that they would embarrass us in public.

I am shocked to see how most kids act around their parents in public these days. There is no respect whatsoever due to the "liberal" child-raising methods of most parents. It is good to see well-behaved children. And that said, one of the very few good things I have to say about Obama is that he appears to have well-behaved kids as well.

I second that motion! Also, it wouldn’t hurt Rick to say flat out that certain questions, evolution, rape, e.g., will never come to his desk and are irrelevant to a Presidential campaign. He might also mention questions that he would like to see the Despot answer. Such as, what is this National Security Force he discussed in 2008? Might he be laying off military personnel, only to offer these trained forces jobs in this force that he envisions will be “more powerful than the U.S. military”? Bob
