There is a new national poll of Republican primary voters just out from Public Policy Polling which has some good news for Rick Santorum the ex-Pennsylvania senator who on Tuesday beat Mitt Romney in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado.

-snip-

The immediate worry for the Santorum campaign is that they are likely to be on the end of a furious negative advertising campaign ahead of the Arizona and Michigan primaries at the end of the month. That is how the Romney team dealt with others who threatened their position and what is likely to happen now.

Romeny, the conservative, is playing Whack-a-mole. Whack Newt, Santorum surges. Whack Rick, Gingrich surges. Romeny stays severely where he is...

The real question is whether Romney has the honor to refrain from unleashing the hounds on Karen Santorum. If he goes there, we will know exactly what kind of hypocritical opportunist we are dealing with.

Big difference though. Santorum has already been through the paces and has heard every nasty thing thrown at him. He will not allow this to even stop him for a minute. See when you have to run for state election, you already have heard all the garbage that is why Santorum won’t even blink an eye with all the commercials. He is so principled. It is so refreshing.

At this point it seems like every Republican candidate has experienced a surge which lasts for a month or so - Perry, Cain, Gingrich, Romney and now Santorum. The surges don’t last - GOP primary voters don’t seem to like any of these guys that much. This should be a no-brainer march to the White House against an unpopular president whose economic polices are destroying the US and so far the GOP hasn’t even been able to excite it’s base with it’s candidates, let alone the general electorate.

I would guess no, Romney has to go with what he knows. Most people have already figured out who/whet Romney is.

Has any candidate actually surpassed Romney nationally yet? I dont remember Cain, or Newt or Perry ever going ahead of him just a close second.... 15 points. Holy cow!

What goes around comes around.
Keep up the dirty campaigning, Mittens.

The voters will see you for what you are: a dirty fighter with no moral compass to guide you.

This is why he won’t win if he becomes the nominee. I have been totally turned off by his filthy tactics.

I think they all did...for a short time. But I agree, 15 points is on the high side, and I don’t ever remember Romney being in 3rd place.

Shame on Mitt Romney.

“This is why he won’t win if he becomes the nominee. I have been totally turned off by his filth”

Someone had a brilliant line on Rush’s show yesterday. He asked “Why would independents get excited about a RINO when conservatives don’s even get excited?” Pretty much explains 2008, and will again explain 2012, unless Romney is stopped.

“Mitt Romney hates puppy dogs. Shame on Mitt Romney.”

Give me 10 million and I could have the entire state of Michigan convinced that was the case. And what can Romney do, show a picture of a puppy licking him - that would be pandering.

If only I had the money...Romney would be toast, just on this issue.

I prefer Newt, but will vote for Santorum in the general election.

I will not vote for Romney or Obama under any circumstances.

Romney and his Gay Brigades are responsible for Obama winning in 2008. For that alone, Romney needs to be reduced to dumpster-diving and sleeping under a bridge.

I believe Santorum is going to do just fine in the Mitt onslaught. Santorum is steady and consistent and will shrug this all off water from a duck.

15% ! Go Rick Go!
