(2/08)Maya Rudolph hosts 'SNL' Feb. 18. Which characters must she bring back to 8H? (Not Whitney)

A new Saturday Night Live host has been announced, and it’s (now, say this in your best Oprah voice) Maya Rudollllllllllllph! On Feb. 18, the Up All Night star is coming home to Studio 8H, where she starred as a regular cast member from 2000 to 2007.

Two awesome things about this news: 1) Rudolph, who also starred in the acclaimed Away We Go in 2009, is now established enough in Hollywood to be able to return as host, and 2) That Saturday Night Live will be able to welcome back one of its most talented female alums. And that’s saying a lot, considering Rudolph was a cast member during SNL‘s golden era for women, appearing alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

As late as last December SNL skit had "Miley" get drug advice from "Whitney". What a sad untimely announcement 3 days ago.

Sorry. No interest. Nothing personal SMGFan.

I watched SNL from the mid-70s when it began until the best comics left in the mid-80s. ....Since then, it’s been nothing but trashy left wing political garbage, IMO, so I only occasionally check in at the beginning to see the ‘tone’ of the program and then switch off to something else.

SNL is the epitome of what happens when elitist liberals overtake a business: It becomes all about them and their ideaology, and what the business produces becomes secondary, second-rate, stale and banal which has happened to the music industry BTW.

I live in New York city, and when they do a show the whole block at Rockefeller center is lined with limosines waiting to take them to their after show party which is always at at elitist club closed to the public. On the other hand, Dan Akroyd use to ride his motorcycle and John Belushi would take a taxi and go bar hopping as would the rest of the cast. I met an old cab driver who told me all this, said he would wait and pick them up, got all their autographs, Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray. To this day Bill Murray doesn't have a manager or a publicist and *gasp* just the other day he said something truly evil: That people must be responsible for their own lives and not depend on the Government. Oh my, he will never get to host that show like Alec Baldwin now!

I have no TV so my "research" is limited to radio and to some extent the Internet.

Like many media presentations SNL is no doubt described as nonpartisan. I know that they have done some pretty funny parodies of Lefties -- just enough I suppose so in their feeeeeeeeeeeeeelings it makes them "nonpartisan."

My radio druthers are proudly-boasting-biased conservative talk radio; but I do listen to "nonpartisan" shows like Imus and CoastToCoastAM. Like SNL those shows have a large audience of apolitical folks who vote.

A disturbing but not surprising pattern is emerging this election year. I don't have examples for SNL but I bet it is the same.

Imus started the year claiming to be for Gov. Romney and mildly critical of President Obama. I know it is his schtick to say nasty things but he is serious about his hatred of Gingrich ("skunk vomit"), his contempt (bordering on hatred) for Santorum, and his view of Paul as a nutcase.

Now Romney is "stupid dull suit" and Obama is not always right but popular. Hint, hint, dear listener.

CoastToCoastAM flirted with criticism of President Obama (once) over the National Defense Allocation Act's authorizing the government to imprison citizens without any Constitutional rights by ordering the U.S. military to do it.

Saturday night C2C was snuggled comfortably back in the arms of its 9/11, "Bush brought down the Towers" Truthers and "Bush the election-stealing, war criminal" fanatics. The latter urging listeners to help protect President Obama and Att. General Holder from their Republican critics in Congress. Hint, hint, dear listener.
