Lew: Obama's latest stance on birth-control mandate final, puts issue to rest

President Obama's new birth-control stance should put to rest the controversy over employer-sponsored contraception coverage, a top administration official said Sunday.

White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew said Obama's new plan, unveiled Friday, effectively addresses "the core issue" of simultaneously ensuring religious freedom and women's access to healthcare.

"It does not force an institution that has religious principle to offer or pay for benefits that they find objectionable, but it guarantees a women's right to access. We think that's the right solution," Lew said on Fox News Sunday.

"Hopefully now this will set the issue to rest."

Asked if the policy is final, Lew was terse.

"Our policy is clear," he said. "We have set out our policy."

Obama stirred a hornet's nest this month when he announced new rules requiring all insurance plans – even those offered by Catholic hospitals, universities and charities – to cover birth control regardless of their religious convictions.

Faced with an outcry from the Catholic Church, Republicans and even some Democrats, Obama on Friday tweaked the plan so that female employees retain free access to contraceptives, but the cost is covered by insurance companies rather than faith-based employers who object.

Lew said the change makes sense economically as well, because insurers will pay less for contraception than they would for a pregnancy.

"It actually does not cost the insurance company money to do it," Lew said.

The remarks will likely do little to appease Republicans, who are eying legislation to repeal Obama's birth-control mandate.

And then he’ll force the Amish to start driving cars. By not driving autos, they are avoiding fossil fuel taxes and not “paying their fair share.”

Saturday Night Live should be having a field day doing skits on this, but they won’t because they’ll never point out the obvious about Obama. If he can trample on some Americans’ rights, he can trample on every American’s rights.

I always envisioned Lucifer with flaming Red Lips, not Purple ones. A skinny Mulatto with a terrible Golf Handicap wasn't even on my radar.

Then again, I thought he would be a white guy like the Character in the Omen movies.

He is pushing this entire abortion and birth control pill agenda claiming it’s a womens health issue.

Abortion has been proven to be detrimental to womens physical and mental health. Birth control pills do not protect women against STDs and discourage the use of the cheaper birth control alternative of condoms. No one in the media has pointed out either fact. If he really cared about womens health, he would be campaigning for condom use, especially among the black community where HIV is rampant. We need to send him back to community organizing where he can devote all of his time to this problem.

Seth Meyers just made a joke about Catholics not following the Church’s teachings.

The fact that Obama can proclaim American Citizens and Private Companies do his bidding in clear violation of the First Amendment means nothing, unless it was a Republican President dictating what they should do.

If Obama gets away with this, couldn’t a Republican President mandate that all teachers and SEIU members register and vote Republican or lose their job?

Point out to liberals that if they swing the pendulum in one direction they might not like it when instead of pushing back, we decide to swing it to the max.

Obama's rump swab (Lew) was using the "approval" of the Catholic Health Association and the Catholic Charities USA as a justification for defending the "righteousness" of Obama's "accomadation."

The bishops need to remove the name "Catholic" from both of these organizations ASAP! Catholic Charities USA sounds like it has been morphing into a Planned Parenthood moneylaundering racket anyway.

Mr. Lew treats this issue like it’s a done deal. I would remind him, and the whole WH gang, that having a clutch of eggs doesn’t guarantee you’ll have chickens. I think they’re counting way too soon.

A firearm in every home like the Swiss model would be a good start.

Liberals would have to be excluded since they would probably hurt themselves anyway. Instead, they would have to take the locks off their front doors since they think some people deserve other people’s money. Nothing better than making people participate in their belief system.
