Why isn’t Sarah running?
Hot Air ^ | 2/12/12 | J.E. Dyer

Her CPAC speech today was a barn-burner, hitting every conservative, small-government point and pumping out soundbites that will no doubt resonate in the public dialogue for days to come. Some of my favorites:

“Drain the Jacuzzi!”

“This government isn’t too big to fail, it’s too big to succeed.”

“We don’t want an economy built to last, we want an economy built to grow.”

“This is Obama’s Washington.”

Her signature line in this speech was “The door is open.” She meant that political conditions are becoming conducive to a renewed commitment to small government and liberty. People’s mindsets are changing. We are not governed by the “rules” of political seasons past; the door is open to choosing our candidates and charting our nation’s future on a different basis. The door is open to not accepting a continuation of the false compromises of previous decades.
**snip**
We can’t have a candidate who sounds like Mitt Romney, but will lead the way a small-government conservative would. That’s not an option. What we’re doing in this primary season is coming to grips with that reality. I think Palin knew instinctively that we would have to, before it would make sense for her to jump back into the electoral fray.

She believes God has a plan for her life, and that He gives her a certainty in her spirit about the big choices she has to make. I suspect she has had a peaceful certainty that joining the campaign as a candidate for 2012 was not something she should do. If she were to analyze it, she might say that God knows better than any of us how the voters’ concerns and expectations are going to change.

Meanwhile, the door is open.

Exactly right.....and that shows how the MSM uses it's power to denigrate the best among us! Biden and Obama could easily be made into 'cartoon characters' but the Left protects its own!

I admit up front I have an issue with Sarah Palin. I like her. I hoped McCain would choose her for his running mate before he did. Old guys should choose young guys as Vp, young guys should choose old guys.

I would vote for any one of the 4 ‘front runners’ over Obama. I would vote for Mitt, Newt, Rick, or Ron. I would be glad to vote for Sarah.

Sarah resigned from a oil board to fight corruption, and it ended up not hurting her, rather, it made her governor. She resigned from Governor, and that permitted her to not bankrupt her family.

Sara-cuda is a great talent. If I could, I would have Mitt as Pres, Newt as VP, Ron Paul as Sec Treasury. I would hope that who ever is president could get Bolton at State. I would put Sarah as Sec of Energy, with instructions to clean house and get energy production up. Lower energy prices would do much to accelerate the economy.

We're still talking about the United States Government, aren't we, and not GOSPLAN?

The msm has trashed her and she is a joke to the average American? Let’s be honest. The average person views her as a ditz and not a viable candidate? Just being honest..

Helluva argument against overextending the franchise. Just as the Maureen Dowd-Peggy Noonan-Kathleen Parker-led female bitchiness of a couple of years ago was a surprise reminder of the wisdom of the Framers' having not extended the franchise to the pushier sex.

This woman bears comparison to Ronnie Raygun, who maybe belongs on Rushmore; and some people think she's a bad copy of Tina Fey.

We were all disappointed Randy. You took it as a personal affront turned disappointment into a ‘Palin Sucks” crusade.

Bump. Honest critique, Randy, honestly given. Free clue for the clueful.

I was disappointed too, very keenly. I just didn't give anyone any money (because it was still too early for that), so perhaps you have the right to be considerably more disappointed than I.

But the woman had to deal with the reality of the situation, one cogent dimension of which has been that there is only enough early political money around to support one conservative challenger to the moneybags Yacht Club and their pet candidate; and the PTB were wily enough and smoothly forked-tongued enough to swamp the wading pool by sweet-talking a number of conservatives into running. Rick Perry is probably the best example, but Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich might be two more. Eventually the book will be written, and we'll all find out who was getting grease jobs from Karl Rove and Charles Black et al.

Because there will never be an American President elected whose “fans” (supporters) refer to said person by their first name.

You mean, like "Jack" (Kennedy)? Or "Honest Abe"? Or "Andy" (Jackson), or "Old Tippecanoe", or "Teddy", or "Silent Cal"?

Think again.

She's scared and nobody will pay her enough.

Seems a lot like a smear to me.

Both of your assertions are patently negative and ludicrous.

One thing for sure, her CPAC speech does prove one thing — her star power is undiminished and if anyone could throw a million volt charge into the Conservative base, it’s Sarah.

You have a good argument, and I've suspected for a while that Sarah's non-announcement was actually a sidestep (like the Alaskan resignation, when Rahm had her thoroughly dialed-in for political, legal, and financial destruction).

Her big problem, as she has no doubt recognized, is double-headed:

But she doesn't strike me as the kind of "quitter" some think she is, and she is not in the pursuit of power as a hobby. And people who are not treating it as a hobby, or as noblesse oblige, like Poppy Bush and his kind, don't ever back off.

As for the Slime Machine, simply avoiding it -- however that can be done -- is a very obvious strategy, and the easiest way to do that is simply to say "I'm not running", and bide one's time, to see if the other candidates can do any better against the Machine. (Hint: So far, they haven't -- except for Rick Santorum, who has not been strong enough so far to merit the Death Star's mighty Death Ray.)

If she can slide past them to June or July, that would be a huge amount of waste/useless effort avoided, and a great chance to do some Teflon-coating and image-repair work. I wouldn't be surprised to hear she's been spending four hours a week watching video of old Ronald Reagan pressers.

See you at the convention. I think it's at least, or better than, 50/50 she and her supporters will try a stampede, if the nomination is still hanging up for grabs.

....consider the lady at the Tea Party rally with the sign, “Hands off my social security!”

That was an old Claude Pepper (D-Fla.) rallying cry, his way of jerking the hook and twisting it real good ..... he used to stage rallies with seniors jumping up and down and yelping with fear and anger, full of old Claude's b.s. that the Evil Republicans were just about to fixin' to start shutting off the check-presses.

His pronunciation was slightly different, though:

"Lay youah filthih hainds off'n ouah Soshuh Secyooitih!!"

Proof there's no fart like an old fart. He was old enough to have voted for Teddy Roosevelt, but acted like he didn't know any better. He had to have been one of the original New Dealers.

Well, yes, but strictly speaking, that was his last name.

And "Tippecanoe" and "Old Hickory" were nicks .... couple of others in there, too, I'm sure.

Thought O Brother Where Art Thou was about Mississippi ...... but S. Mississippi, S. Alabama, and N. Florida people all sound very, very similar. (Northern Alabama is a whole different sound, ditto most of the Upper South accents.)

For the accent I'm thinking about, Jerry Reed and Bo Hopkins both had it.

I think it's probably sufficient to allow you to repeat yourself.

I need not do so.

Those are nick names. Look at the titles on these very pages. There is one now with Abraham Lincoln in the title. Not Honest Abe, or Abe etc.... She is a pop icon and that is how she will always be viewed. People want her to run, or be part of a ticket. Been there, done that. Call it PDS or whatever you choose, but I would say that those who are rabid supporters and cannot look at things outside of the Palin prism suffer from PWS. Get it? If not see below:

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

Has it occurred to anybody to think that perhaps she actually was scared out of the race by Chicago-thug threats against her and/or her family?

Maybe no one can pay her enough money to put her family in that kind of jeopardy.

Never underestimate the perfidy of the left, especially the murderous marxist criminals whom we stupidly put in charge of the fate of our country.

You and others are ragging on humblegunner without really thinking about what his comment might mean. Take off your Palin-rosy-colored glasses and at least think about the possibility.

BTW, humblegunner is neither old nor stupid nor left of Ronald Reagan.
