In his New York Times bestselling book, Throw Them All Out, Breitbart editor Peter Schweizer revealed how members of Congress enrich themselves and their relatives using earmarks and insider information. Now, the Washington Post, following in Schweizer’s footsteps, has conducted a study that found 16 members of Congress have used their power of the purse to benefit companies, colleges, and community groups tied to their relatives...

I don’t know if corruption in Congress has always been this bad, but I do know we’re at a point we can’t afford it now. Either it gets cleaned up, or we go down the tubes.

My money is on down the tubes.

And this....

Congressional earmarks sometimes used to fund projects near lawmakers’ properties

By David S. Fallis, Scott Higham and Kimberly Kindy, Published: February 6

A U.S. senator from Alabama directed more than $100 million in federal earmarks to renovate downtown Tuscaloosa near his own commercial office building. A congressman from Georgia secured $6.3 million in taxpayer funds to replenish the beach about 900 feet from his island vacation cottage. A representative from Michigan earmarked $486,000 to add a bike lane to a bridge within walking distance of her home.

Just for the general FYI, here’s a link to a detailed list of the 16:

Some of the earmark issues look to be far more serious than others. One or two may actually be a legitimate spending requests. Most of them, though, look to be pork-laden waste. Not surprisingly, two of the worst offenders are Lisa Murkowski (I cannot stand that RINO!) and SanFranNan Pelosi.

"Afford"'s got nothing to do with it...just because there were times that we could "afford" it, it still should not be happening.

The old saying about 'if you let the camel's nose in the tent, it won't be long before the rest of him is in there' is the method that has led us to this point in America. If the dems are not good at anything else, "incrementalism" is their speciality.

Compounded incrementalism is what got us to the mess we're in today. At first one thing didn't seem "wrong", then another didn't seem "wrong", and finally Congress fell into the imperialistic trap that they were all-powerful and could do no "wrong".

Well, most of congress has turned into a sewer pit, and in a government that supposed to be "of, for, and by the people", this has to stop.

The 535 in Congress coupled with the obama regime and the entitlement state have weiled a severe blow to America and freedom.

The mere fact that obama is even being allowed to run AGAIN is beyond any comprehension. He should be in solitary confinement somewhere...maybe GITMO.

The administration and the vast majority of Congress needs a good cleaning.

We need to give them the BOOT:
Barack
Obama
Out
Today!

The whole election should have one focus and one only...getting rid of the tyrant in the White House.

He had his chance, he's had four years - each one more of a dismal failure than the one before it. He has accomplished nothing that is not destructive to the Constitution and America. He has ruined lives with losses of jobs, homes, and savings. He has foisted a debt upon our children - who we had all hoped would have a better life than ourselves - which they will be paying off for decades to come.

He is mean, evil, and power hungry and as evidenced by both him and Michelle, they want to control every faction of our lives for their own aggrandizement and enrichment.

We need to get MAD, go to the polls MAD, and use that MAD to get rid of the usurper-in-chief.

We're wasting too much time bouncing from primary candidate to primary candidate. Everything I've seen that determines who wins the next state primary has been reaction to what the media and driving into our physche...forget the media, vote for the good of America.

2012 should forever be known as "The Year of Replacement"...boot out the internal enemies, in Congress and otherwise, and Save Our Nation.

that's what sent Speaker Denny Hassert packing ... he had a road put in or improved which jumped the value of his adjacent property ... it was better than his teacher's pension and congressional pension combined

Since most of what the fedgov does is unconstitutional, I am sure that all of the projects were unconstitutional, whether they appear legitimate or not.
