Should It Be Illegal to Be a Catholic Health-Insurance CEO? (Bad Theology)
National Review Online - The Corner ^ | February 13, 2012 | Ryan T. Anderson

Here’s an aspect of the HHS preventive-services mandate and the “compromise” announced on Friday that has gone unnoticed: It will soon be impossible, because it would be illegal, to be a faithful Catholic in America running a health-insurance company. Friday’s announcement — that health-insurance companies will be required to provide free coverage of contraceptives, sterilization procedures, and abortifacients — entails that citizens cannot operate a health-insurance company in accord with their moral values, if those moral values happen to align with historic Christianity rather than Obama.

This is a pretty bad theological argument. That is like saying a Catholic cannot purchase stuff from or work for from Amazon.com because Amazon sells items contrary to the teachings of the CC. You can but from Amazon.com because the selling of the objectionable is secondary and the same thing would apply to working for a health insurance company.

I'll admit I';m not quite clear on what constitutes "Formal cooperation," ""Proximate Mediate Material cooperation" and "Remore cooperation," etc.

I know "formal" cooperation with evil is always evil. (Cooperating eith an evil deed fully intentionally.)

I know "remote material cooperation" is generally innocent. (Installing tile flooring in a medical complex where some of the rooms are used for abortions.)

And there are other gradations of what kind of cooperation is forbidden, and what is not forbidden.

Can anybody help me out here?

The Catholic apologist website Jimmyakin.org is good for this kind of stuff. He mentioned the Amazon.com example in an old podcast.
