Suspected Iranian Blew Off His Own Leg In A Botched Terror Attack In Bangkok

Robert Johnson
Feburary 14, 2012

One day after bombs targeting Israeli embassy staff went off in India and Georgia, another botched attack played out this morning in Bangkok.

Through several reports, the incident appears to have played out something like this: Saeib Morabi, a suspected Iranian, was fleeing an explosion that rocked through his rented home in central Bangkok.

While he was on the road looking for transportation, another explosion went off "on a nearby road." When Morabi finally managed to flag down a cab, the driver refused to take him where he wanted to go.

The refusal prompted Morabi to pull out another explosive and toss it inside the cab, injuring the driver and two nearby pedestrians. Other reports have the bomb going off in front of the cab.

The police were running down Morabi following the third explosion when he turned, pulled a grenade from a satchel and threw it at police. The explosive hit a tree, bounced back, detonated, and blew off one of his legs and mangled the other.

Following this blast, authorities investigated his rental home, suspecting Morabi had more explosives hidden there. It's not yet reported what they found, but officials did arrest a second man at Bangkok's international airport Tuesday night.

This incident follows last month's arrest of a Lebanese-Swedish man, arrested in Bangkok, who led authorities to 8,000 pounds of fertilizer and liquid ammonium nitrate. It's unknown if those bomb materials are related to today's incident.

Hopefully the Iranian terror moles planted in the country are as incompetent.

If we or Israel attack Iran, I expect all sorts of things like this to occur here.

"And Police General Bansiri Prapapat has confirmed Morabi's nationality. "We discovered the injured man's passport. It's an Iranian passport and he entered the country through Phuket and arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on the 8th of this month," he told Reuters"

An old soldier with some experience with grenades sez (sic):

1. A grenade is an area weapon.

2. When it detonates, it's best to not be in the area designated as "the target".

3.You're welcome...oops, too late.

More like the Wiley Coyote who keeps blowing himself up trying to catch the Roadrunner.

Realize the Iranian will be ridiculed by the Iranians because he brings ridicule upon his people. They will say he should have blown himself up and died rather than be captured.

He is lucky he didn't. He still has a chance to repent of his murderous intent and escape the flames of hell.

I would guess this is most likely from the Guardian's mouth than from the police, it is typical of the left to deny any muslim is a terrorist. I doubt the police said any such thing.

“Bangkok bomb suspects ‘partied in Pattaya’”
Posted: 17 February 2012 1409 hrs

SNIPPET: “BANGKOK: Three Iranians suspected in a botched bomb plot targeting Israeli diplomats in Bangkok holidayed in the Thai resort of Pattaya just days before the blasts, an official said Friday.

“The three suspects stayed in different hotels in Pattaya,” an immigration officer in the coastal city who did not want to be named told AFP.

Police have tracked down a Thai woman known as “Nancy” who escorted one of the men, Mohamad Khazaei, during his stay, he added.

“The most important evidence we found are pictures in Nancy’s mobile phone taken on the night of February 11 which prove that these suspects know each other,” the officer said.”

In Moradi’s backpack, police found clothing; receipts issued to a Yasef Moradi by a hotel in Pattaya; 8,500 baht (US$275) and $2,800 in cash; and a large amount of cash in Iranian currency.”

When police arrived at the scene, he threw a bomb at them. But it bounced back and blew up in front of him. Moradi lost both his legs in the blast and is being treated in a Bangkok hospital.

Another suspect Mohammad Hazaei was taken into custody at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport while attempting to board a plane to Malaysia. He denied involvement in the explosions.”

“The face of Iranian terrorism”

SNIPPET: “Thai police said both Muradi and Hazai confessed to planning attacks on Israeli targets in Thailand. Explosives found in the apartment were apparently meant for use in assassination attempts rather than to blow up buildings or other structures. A police bomb squad searching the house found and defused two explosives, each made of three or four pounds of C-4 explosives, inside a pair of radios. Prewpan Damapong said the bombs were “magnetic” and could be affixed to vehicles. “From the investigation, we found the type of explosives indicated that the prepared targets were individuals,” Wichean said. “Based on the equipment and materials we found, they were aimed at individuals and the destruction capacity was not intended for large crowds or big buildings.””

“Thai Police Widen Search for Iranians”
BY JAMES HOOKWAY
(February 16, 2012)

SNIPPET: “BANGKOK—Thai police said they were searching for a fifth suspect in this week’s alleged botched terrorism plot in Bangkok, while local security forces increased security checks in heavily touristed areas of the city.

Thai authorities have said several Iranian nationals planned to assassinate Israeli diplomats in this Southeast Asian nation amid growing tensions between Iran and Israel over Tehran’s nuclear program, following Israel’s contention that Iranian-backed operatives were behind bomb plots in India and Georgia, as well as the Thai blasts.

Thai police said the suspects here were using “sticky bombs”—magnetic bombs designed to be attached ...”

“Police find bomb gang’s motorcycle
NEW LEAD IN VALENTINE’S DAY EXPLOSIONS”

Published: 19/02/2012 at 03:53 AM

SNIPPET: “A police source said the motorcycle was bought for 26,400 baht by Masoud Sedaghatzadeh, 31, who was arrested in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday after fleeing Thailand.

Witnesses confirmed that the suspects used the motorcycle for travelling but police are investigating if they planned to use the motorcycle for a bomb attack.

Police found a sticker with the word “SEJEAL” under the motorcycle’s seat.

(A passage in the Koran relates a miracle when birds from heaven dropped “sejeal stones” at an army on elephants from Yemen who were attempting to kill Muhammad, scaring the animals and saving the prophet’s life. Palestinian guerrillas have referred to their rockets and mortars used to attack Israel as “sejeal stones”.)”

SNIPPET: “Two Iranians are in custody in Bangkok. Saeid Moradi, 28, was injured in one blast and is being treated at Chulalongkorn Hospital, while Mohammad Khazaei, 42, was detained at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The third suspect is Mr Sedaghatzadeh, while the fourth suspect is female, Leila Rohani, who has fled to Iran.

Police are seeking an arrest warrant for a fifth suspect who was seen on surveillance camera footage near a house just before an explosion ripped through it on Tuesday afternoon.

National police chief Priewpan Damapong said yesterday that it had not been confirmed whether the fifth suspect had been identified as Nikkhahfard Javad.”

SNIPPET: “]Police sources said all four suspects held tourist visas. Ms Rohani entered Thailand four times last year. She flew back on Feb 5.

Mr Khazaei came to Thailand for the first time on Dec 15 last year and departed on Jan 7. He returned on Feb 8 accompanied by Mr Moradi, flying from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket before flying to Suvarnabhumi. They went to Pattaya the same day to meet Mr Sedaghatzadeh. In Pattaya, Mr Khazaei checked in at Marine Plaza Hotel, while Mr Sedaghatzadeh and Mr Moradi stayed at Top Thai Hotel.”

SNIPPET: “National deputy police chief Pansiri Prapawat said authorities are now seeking to arrest a man they have identified as 52-year-old Nikkhahfard Javad who was seen on surveillance tapes in the area of a Sukhumvit 71 home just before an explosion ripped through it on Tuesday afternoon.”

SNIPPET: “Masoud Sedaghat Zade, 31, the third Iranian thought to have been involved, was arrested in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. A suspected female accomplice, Leila Rohani, is being sought for questioning. Immigration records show she left Thailand earlier this month for Iran.

SNIPPET: “Malaysian security officials said Mr Zade had made several trips to Malaysia in the past several months.

Mr Zade told interrogators he was an auto parts dealer and that he had visited Malaysia, Thailand and other countries in the region on business.”

SNIPPET: “Investigators later found two complete bombs packed with radios with 2 kilogrammes of C4 each.

Iran, which is already facing international condemnation over its nuclear programme with allegations it is trying to make nuclear weapons, has denied any involvement in the bomb plot.

But Israeli Vice Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon named Brigadier-General Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force, a covert arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps, as the mastermind of the attacks.

“We see what is happening in India, Georgia and Thailand. It is the same pattern. The same bomb, the same lab, the same factory,” Mr Yaalon said in a newspaper interview.

Will Hartley, head of the Terrorism & Insurgency Centre at IHS Jane’s, said Israel’s assertion of an Iranian link was “not unreasonable given the circumstantial evidence”.”

“Police: Stickers linked to bomb plot”
• Published: 20/02/2012 at 10:38 PM

SNIPPET: “The suspected Iranian terrorists arrested last week identified and marked their potential targets in Bangkok with stickers containing the word “SEJEAL”, police said on Monday.

Police revealed the latest piece of evidence in their investigation while interrogating bomb suspect Mohammad Khazaei, 42. They said many people phoned in about the stickers which were found on a busy street in Bangkok’s Ploenchit and Klong Toey areas after learning about them from the media.

The stickers were first seen under a flyover on Duang Pitak Road in the Lumpini area of Klong Toey district - which runs pararell with the Ploenchit Expressway on the southern side and the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly factory - and were spotted at other places along a 1.5km stretch to the mouth of Soi Ruam Rudee near Ploenchit BTS skytrain station.

Officials believe the stickers may have been used to mark specific locations in a plot to assassinate high-ranking Israeli officials who use the route.
Explosives ordnance disposal (EOD) police examined the stickers and spent about an hour removing 52 of them attached to electricity poles, billboards, traffic signs and phone booths along the route.

The word “Sejeal” is Arabic. A passage in the Koran relates a miracle when birds from heaven dropped “sejeal stones” at an army of elephants from Yemen who were attempting to kill Muhammad, scaring the animals and saving the prophet’s life. Palestinian guerrillas have referred to their rockets and mortars used to attack Israel as “sejeal stones”. ”

“Express Exclusive: Call details of Bangkok bombers led cops to Israel Embassy attacker”

VijaitaSingh : New Delhi, Fri Mar 16 2012, 14:29 hrs

SNIPPET: “The Delhi Police figured out the conspiracy behind the recent attack on an Israeli Embassy car by studying call details of the Bangkok bombers, who reportedly belong to the same Iranian module that planned assaults on Israeli targets in New Delhi, Georgia and Bangkok last month.

The Bangkok attack failed as the bombs, stored in a house in a busy locality, detonated accidentally.

Police sources said Houshang Afshar Irani, one of the Iranian suspects against whom warrants have been issued by a Delhi court, was in touch with one of the suspects arrested in Bangkok in the botched terror attempt.

Analysis of call details show Irani’s local contact was Urdu journalist Mohammad Ahmad Kazmi, who was arrested on March 7 for his alleged role in the conspiracy.

Police said Kazmi was well aware of the plan.”

“Bangkok bomber was in India”
Neeraj Chauhan,TNN | Mar 22, 2012, 06.52AM IST

SNIPPET: “In April last year, when the bomber, Seyed Ali Mahdian Sadr, was surveying Bangkok for probable terror targets, another accused Afshar Irani was in Delhi on a one-month recce. Later, Sadr travelled to Delhi to join Afshar who had already bought a scooty to recce the capital. They fixed their target as Israeli diplomat , Tal Yehoshua Koren, and returned to Tehran.

Investigators also learnt that the operational head of the module, Sedaghatzadeh Masoud, who is now in Malaysian custody, is the youngest among the Iranian bombers and his passport had been issued by Tehran last year - just days before the terror blueprint was laid.”
