State agent inspects sack lunches, forces preschoolers to purchase cafeteria food instead
RAEFORD A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.
The girls turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs including in-home day care centers to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.
When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.
The girls mother who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a healthy lunch would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.
I don't feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home, the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.

Luckily, us feral agents are here to keep you in line.
I wonder how much money the makers of the chicken nuggets "donated" to the Democratic Party in order to get the power to write the USDA guidelines.
I must be missing something... a turkey/cheese sandwich is far more wholesome/nutritious than some pink gel that is molded into a nugget shape. Plus, the Mom packed a fruit and some chips (children do need some fat). This is all about control (IMHO) than nutrition.
Who are the Nazi-types they hire to enforce this crap. These people should be shunned by the rest of us. Or used to decorate lamp posts.
Rush is all over this near the show’s opening.
If you can’t make it in the TSA, the regime will get you a gig with the Department of Agriculture, passing judgment on the nutritional value of schoolkids’ lunches.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Turkey and cheese covers protein and fat. The banana covers carbohydrates, potassium, etc. The chips were likely Lays or some such thing which don’t contain trans fats, so that’s poly- and monounsaturated fats plus the potato, a starch. And the apple juice is probably sugary but at least provides some nutrients and more carbs. This is a typical, relatively healthy lunch for a child, IMO.
Kids run around and play so much that they probably burn off this lunch in less than half a day at school.
This nation has become completely engulfed by the Federal government. We are no longer “We The People,” folks. The Federal government has usurped our authority to self-govern.
Likely part of one of Baraq's "jobs" programs. Isn't it great our govt is so well funded they can handle even non-essential services like this?
They love to tell people what to do, a majority of the groups that comprise the demon rats are all happy with the demon rats because they are telling people what to do in their favor.
They fail to realize once you give them that power the minorities that make up the Demon Rats are at risk the next time some populist tyrant gets into power.
If they control your food choices they will continue to chip away at things until every aspect of your life can and WILL be controlled.

I'll bet this "state employee" is about 250 pounds and ate the girls lunch.
No kidding. The “Heath Food” Czar putting the idea that the Gov’t knows best in childrens minds early...... Thank God this BS wasn’t around when I was in school...Nachos,Cheeseburgers,Pizza,and Tacos will probably be outlawed soon! (Let the Blackmarket begin!)
Rush is all over this near the show’s opening.
I have plenty of rope.
I hate these federal food fetishists, with their one-size-fits all ignorance.
It's time or past time to put a stop to this nonsense.
BTW, for USDA types lurking out there, I had rumaki and a beer for lunch. No carbs, no salad, no fruit. I did have a MilkyWay(tm) bar for dessert. Come and get me.

Sandwich - meat, dairy and grain
Banana & apple juice - fruit/veg
And they fed the girl nuggets? So, apparently the story here is 1) do not feed your own child & 2) if you do - MORE TURKEY (to match the one in the White House).
I agree. It is actually a perfect (and lovingly hand made) lunch that ensures the child both nutrition and energy for the rest of the school day.
Glad he was.
Rush called them “Food Nazis” I kind liked that one.
Wife just said “They’re probably getting the chicken nuggets from Tyson Foods”. Big dem contributors.
And we are surprised that we now have to pay for abortions and contraceptives. And we are surprised the couple in Idaho now has to pay for cleanup and restoration of the property they legally own, to build a house on. Enforcers in the cafeteria should by now not be a surprise. There would be no retaliation on my child, because that child would never set foot in that cafeteria again.
Wow, now schools are inspecting kid’s lunches? What gives any school the right to tell parents what they can and can’t feed their kids in school? Scary.
Holy smokes. When I think of all the parts of this country where interfering with a child’s packed lunch like that would result in a broken nose and missing teeth...
A lot of parents would treat that behavior as being as bad as if some feral agent told their child to take pills they had on their own decided to give them for ADHD.
Add to that the insane level of liability. What if the child was deathly allergic to chicken or something else on their plate?
This is so far from what I think should be taking place in our nation, that it’s downright scarey.
We have got to get the federal government, and better yet even the state governments out of our education system.
If there were a way to get the courts out of them too, we would have fixed the major problems.
Those “chicken” nuggets are pure filth made up of ground-up bits of chicken feet, skin and cartilage. Stuff you would feel uncomfortable feeding to pigs. I’d love to see the pig agent eat nuggets until they vomit.
Thank god we have the state to protect our children from such incompetence on the part of the parents. Imagine if they let this child eat the turkey and cheese sandwich? What was the mom thinking?
“Or used to decorate lamp posts.
I have plenty of rope...”
Far, far to inefficient. Use the guillotine, and I’ll serve as the lever puller for free.
H*ll, I’ll pay.
However I’d like a contribution of 1$ for each liberal head bounce.
I hate these guys...a lot!
Not just stupid, to send her daughter in for a low quality education; but cowardly too, and a moocher using the welfare known as public education. Not a citizen. Just a subject.
Meanwhile, at West Hoke Elementary, the "Terrific Kid" nominee gets a Waffle House coupon and some ice cream as a reward for showing signs of being "thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, influential[???], friendly, impeccable[?], and caring." The "Student of the Month," likewise chosen for anything but academic performance, gets a free Domino's pizza. (Source: http://whes.hcs.k12.nc.us/)
The USDA sent an Agent to inspect lunches at a kindergarten? There's so much wrong here, including the fact that this idiot "agent" has been tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail by the parents.
This is to teach the public to accept government control of every aspect of their lives. The child learns to allow their lunch to be inspected, learns to give up said lunch to the lunch authorities and learns to consume what is provided by those authorities. Meanwhile the parent learns to not be offended by the lunch inspections or any other inspection of their child for the privilege of turning over their child's mind to the beneficent State.
I find it interesting that it is the fee charged by the cafeteria rather than the inspections and monitoring of food intake that the mother is upset about.
It is truly a brave new world
BTW if the school is allowed to replace unapproved food with approved food what would keep them from including a bit of Soma into that food?
Oops, I had an Obamaloon moment.
That’s “too,” not, “to.”
Hmmm, last week the FDA director said we don’t properly train parents to make lunch for their children. I’m surprised the agent didn’t tell the girl that the Lunch Lady will lose her job if Mommy keeps making her lunch.
This is all about control (IMHO) than nutrition.

That and MONEY since the federal school lunch act passed.
Tons of stories on this stupid bill that was passed without a voice vote and unanimously.
__________
“Robin Quay, dietitian for Danbury’s school lunch program, Sodexo, said she looks forward to the new grants.
“It looks like there are some grants for organic foods and that would be exciting,” Quay said, “and grants to help with summer programs, school gardens and using local food.”. “

This is getting insane.
I sure miss living in a free country
“You will NOT usurp MY authority and control over MY child's diet! The CRAP your substituted doesn't even meet your own damn criteria! The meal I provided was fine AND IS NOT SUBJECT TO YOUR OPINION!”
There was a time when a friendly “punch to the face” would solve many of the problems plaguing our country.
Sadly, the rise of the trial lawyer and the meddlesome politician have made those simple solutions a thing of the past.
I mean, I hope nobody in this country is waiting for my permission to pull their kids out of govt. schools....
Your comments are over the top. Please refrain.
With a police escort.
Who would first shoot the family dog.
Again, why act surprised? Stuff like this is what the majority of those who voted on November 4, 2008 said, via their votes, they wanted. And if you think this is bad, wait until obamacare fully kicks in.
[ That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables

She should send the same food Michelle eats every day witht he kid then they would really have a reason to confiscate the kids food for being unhealthy.
This issue, this one right here, is the only one you need in order to win the election against Obama.
Nobody, liberal or conservative, wants to live in a world where a federal inspector, with a pension, gets paid to inspect your kids lunch and pass judgement on it.
This is the sort of thing even idiots can understand.
Somebody, somewhere in Obama’s government thought this was an excellent idea. This is the point.
The hue and cry being raised has to do with the quality of the lunch. The inspector made a warrant-less search. That must be the issue going forward
The inspector had no authority to enter the school to search lunch boxes. A warrant is required for each and every such lunch box and must be issued on the basis of probable cause.
You show up at the pta and the school board and demand they cease and desist immediately.
Don’t fall for that garbage about federal money.
We MUST stand up before they become so entrenched you can never get them out short of hanging them.
Those are a nasty product. I feel ill thinking about eating a nugget. It is all kinds of shit from a chicken and it is cleansed with amonia concoction to steralize the bacteria and fecal matter in it. Yeah, tell the whole story on nuggets. Hey, and welcome to Bigdirty.

Maybe they can hire union teachers over the summer for “Parental Re-Education” classes at the empty schools during summer break, sounds like an excellent plan to payback all of the teacher’s unions. They could make it mandatory for all parents who have children in the school. That way they can pay off the teachers who are in the unions giving them an extra month or two of pay for these mandatory 2 classes a week that only last no more than 2 hours. Which means the teachers would work only an extra 40 hours and get paid for essentially 8 weeks.
The more I learn about Liberals the more ideas I get as to how they can use the “public good” to bring forth policies that are ultimately destructive to society.
My lunch today? Turkey sandwich. Bag of Chips. Applesauce instead of a banana. I thought that it was pretty tasty and nutritious.
Gave my son the last thing of Apple Juice in the house for his lunch today and I had a Coke instead.
Suppose the Food Police are going to come for me?
Sounds like a former TSA employee has found a new career.
