Preschooler’s Homemade Lunch Replaced with Cafeteria “Nuggets”

State agent inspects sack lunches, forces preschoolers to purchase cafeteria food instead

RAEFORD — A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious.

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.

The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.

When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones.

The girl’s mother — who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation — said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a “healthy lunch” would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.

“I don't feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,” the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.

And we are surprised that we now have to pay for abortions and contraceptives. And we are surprised the couple in Idaho now has to pay for cleanup and restoration of the property they legally own, to build a house on. Enforcers in the cafeteria should by now not be a surprise. There would be no retaliation on my child, because that child would never set foot in that cafeteria again.

Wow, now schools are inspecting kid’s lunches? What gives any school the right to tell parents what they can and can’t feed their kids in school? Scary.

Holy smokes. When I think of all the parts of this country where interfering with a child’s packed lunch like that would result in a broken nose and missing teeth...

A lot of parents would treat that behavior as being as bad as if some feral agent told their child to take pills they had on their own decided to give them for ADHD.

Add to that the insane level of liability. What if the child was deathly allergic to chicken or something else on their plate?

This is so far from what I think should be taking place in our nation, that it’s downright scarey.

We have got to get the federal government, and better yet even the state governments out of our education system.

If there were a way to get the courts out of them too, we would have fixed the major problems.

Those “chicken” nuggets are pure filth made up of ground-up bits of chicken feet, skin and cartilage. Stuff you would feel uncomfortable feeding to pigs. I’d love to see the pig agent eat nuggets until they vomit.

Thank god we have the state to protect our children from such incompetence on the part of the parents. Imagine if they let this child eat the turkey and cheese sandwich? What was the mom thinking?

“Or used to decorate lamp posts.
I have plenty of rope...”

Far, far to inefficient. Use the guillotine, and I’ll serve as the lever puller for free.

H*ll, I’ll pay.

However I’d like a contribution of 1$ for each liberal head bounce.

I hate these guys...a lot!

Not just stupid, to send her daughter in for a low quality education; but cowardly too, and a moocher using the welfare known as public education. Not a citizen. Just a subject.

Meanwhile, at West Hoke Elementary, the "Terrific Kid" nominee gets a Waffle House coupon and some ice cream as a reward for showing signs of being "thoughtful, enthusiastic, respectful, responsible, influential[???], friendly, impeccable[?], and caring." The "Student of the Month," likewise chosen for anything but academic performance, gets a free Domino's pizza. (Source: http://whes.hcs.k12.nc.us/)

according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.

The USDA sent an Agent to inspect lunches at a kindergarten? There's so much wrong here, including the fact that this idiot "agent" has been tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail by the parents.

This is all about control (IMHO) than nutrition.

This is to teach the public to accept government control of every aspect of their lives. The child learns to allow their lunch to be inspected, learns to give up said lunch to the lunch authorities and learns to consume what is provided by those authorities. Meanwhile the parent learns to not be offended by the lunch inspections or any other inspection of their child for the privilege of turning over their child's mind to the beneficent State.

I find it interesting that it is the fee charged by the cafeteria rather than the inspections and monitoring of food intake that the mother is upset about.

It is truly a brave new world

BTW if the school is allowed to replace unapproved food with approved food what would keep them from including a bit of Soma into that food?

Hmmm, last week the FDA director said we don’t properly train parents to make lunch for their children. I’m surprised the agent didn’t tell the girl that the Lunch Lady will lose her job if Mommy keeps making her lunch.

That and MONEY since the federal school lunch act passed.
Tons of stories on this stupid bill that was passed without a voice vote and unanimously.
__________
“Robin Quay, dietitian for Danbury’s school lunch program, Sodexo, said she looks forward to the new grants.

“It looks like there are some grants for organic foods and that would be exciting,” Quay said, “and grants to help with summer programs, school gardens and using local food.”. “

I would have grabbed my attorney and marched over there and read them the riot act!

There was a time when a friendly “punch to the face” would solve many of the problems plaguing our country.
Sadly, the rise of the trial lawyer and the meddlesome politician have made those simple solutions a thing of the past.

Mom should consider herself lucky that CPS wasn't sent to the house to take her kid away.

With a police escort.

Who would first shoot the family dog.
