BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This is from Rayford, North Carolina. Carolina Journal. I'm gonna read it to you exactly as it printed out here. "A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious. The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day."

Again, let me read this to you again: "The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day." There are federal agents inspecting lunch boxes? See, I don't have kids. You heard of this? You heard of this, Snerdley? I know you don't have kids that you know of, either. I've not heard of federal agents inspecting lunch boxes. And furthermore I've not heard of agents declaring that what's in them is not nutritious enough and throwing them out and substituting three chicken nuggets.

"A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious. The girl’s turkey-and-cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day." Again, let me read this to you again: "The girl’s turkey-and-cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice" were thrown out "did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes...

"The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs -- including in-home day care centers -- to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home. When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones. The girl’s mother -- who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation -- said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a 'healthy lunch' would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.

"'I don't feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,' the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative... The girl’s grandmother, who sometimes helps pack her lunch, told Carolina Journal that she is a petite, picky 4-year-old who eats white whole wheat bread and is not big on vegetables. 'What got me so mad is, number one, don’t tell my kid I’m not packing her lunch box properly,' the girl’s mother [said]. 'I pack her lunchbox according to what she eats. It always consists of a fruit. It never consists of a vegetable. She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesn’t really care for vegetables.'"

Do you believe this? I do! The food Nazis -- and, by the way, this is Michelle (My Belle)'s program: No Child's Behind Left Alone. Folks, what is going on here? Do you know what frightens me? This has probably going on and has been good guy a lot longer than I know because I don't have children. I wonder: How many people, how many parents are acquiescing to this? "When the girl came home with her lunch untouched, her mother wanted to know what she ate instead. Three chicken nuggets, the girl answered. Everything else on her cafeteria tray went to waste. 'She came home with her whole sandwich I had packed, because she chose to eat the nuggets on the lunch tray, because they put it in front of her,' her mother said. 'You're telling a 4-year-old. "Oh. you’re lunch isn’t right," and she’s thinking there’s something wrong with her food.'" What is wrong with a turkey sandwich and a banana?

Take a break. What do you mean, I don't care about the children? Don't tell me that! That's BS.

My grandfather was a Nazi and he had more honor.

I believe this is a state mandate, not federal. Please correct me if I’m wrong here.

The headline is misleading.

It was a state, and not a federal, official who did this.

While he may have used federal guidelines, the guidelines themselves do not dictate the actions the state employee took.

My point is not to excuse federal intrusion, but to point out that state governments can be every bit as intrusive, and often are more intrusive, than the federal government.

Many FReepers and other conservatives like to talk about "state sovereignty" or "states' rights" or romanticize the Tenth Amendment, but the lived reality is that state governments and municipal governments are not appreciably better than the federal and are usually more expensive to boot.

The disease goes deeper than the Beltway and "cleaning up Washington" would barely be the beginning.

Let’s hope the “smart” rulers do this abuse to millions of Americans so they will begin to understand what socialism is all about. It has nothing to do with intellegence.

Parents must not be permitted to pack lunches so more SEIU members can be hired to provide lunches at public expense.

Of the money spent on school lunches, one dime out of every $100 gets kicked back to the Obama campaign in the form of political spending form forced union dues, which is about the going rate for kickbacks in this administration.

It’s not just that they are engaging in petty graft, what is offensive is that they are so inefficient about it.

I pack for my kids every day. The menu is:

Salami and Colby-Jack on Italian Bread (yes, salami every stinking day)
Fruit cup or whole fruit
Baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper slices or cucumber slices
Ranch dip
Salty snack
dessert - Gogurt, HoHo, etc
drink - water, Hug, juice

I dare that ugly heffer to stick her nose in my kids lunchbox.

Your post is a good one.

However I’ve had much better luck “negotiating” govt issues with state folks than federal ones. Local politicians have a lot more sensitivity to local voters.

That’s right. State employees have become the agents/toads of the federal government.
This is what `federalism’ has become. `You give us money, and we will give you some of your money back, but you don’t get it if you don’t comply with our “guidelines” on the subjects of birth control, school lunches, transportation, communication, and on and on.
Zero has taken this to the next step by claiming that our money, that has not yet become his money, is actually `spending.’

Chicken nuggets are more nutritious than turkey and cheese? Since when?

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, . . .

Compared to what my school district serves the students for lunch here, the above is VERY nutritious.

If parent sit back an allow this mess, then shame on them. I know parents carry a lot of sway in what goes on at school, so they need to get on the phone, get to the meetings, get to the principal’s office, get to the superindent’s office and pester the daylights out of them! You don’t like it, then get the heck out and DO something.

She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesn’t really care for vegetables...."

You don't need to believe in evolution to grasp that Elaine Morgan is almost certainly correct in thinking that humans originally lived in water and that means that the original human diet would have been some combination of fruit and shellfish. Vegetables were never a part of the original human diet and when something tastes bad, your body is trying to tell you something. The whole world knows that a little kid's reaction to alcohol and/or tobacco is correct, why would anybody think that same little kid'd reaction to vegetables was wrong??
