Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, following his wins last week in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, has now jumped ahead of Mitt Romney in Michigan's Republican Primary race.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Michigan shows Santorum with 35% of the vote to Romney’s 32%. Well behind are Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 13% and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 11%. Only one percent (1%) prefers some other candidate in the race, while eight percent (8%) are undecided.

1) Jeb Bush will not get the nomination in a brokered convention. I’m convinced this idea is being floated to scare people about the possibility of a brokered convention (we better get behind Romney, or we’ll end up with another Bush). The fact is, he-double-toothpicks will freeze over before another Bush gets the nomination.
2) Even if a GOP insider ends up with the nomination in a brokered convention, there is still one redeeming quality: it won’t be Romney. The fact that, for the first time, we prevented the GOP establishment from shoving their choice down the throats of the base will be a ground-shattering victory in and of itself.
What’s going on this cycle is more than just a nominating process. It’s a battle for control of the party. A battle between the old-guard, establishment GOP power-brokers, and the base/tea-party.

One thing is clear, Newt is finished. Time to line up behind Santorum.

If Santorum and Newt were smart they would get together and tag team Romney.
In states like Michigan where Santorum is strong and Newt is weak, Newt should step to the side and endorse Santorum.
In Southern states where newt is Strong and Santorum is weak, the opposite should occur.
Keep doing that on a state by state basis with the express goal of denying Romney the win in each and every state. Take it all the way to the convention if need be, or if one of the two starts to pull away (most likely Santorum now) and has a chance of getting the Nom outright, the other should then pull out and back him fully.
I am happy with either Newt or Rick, so the main goal here is not to push one in favor of the other yet but to take Romney out first.
I spoke with a seasoned Conservative gent today here in Michigan and he is not sold on Rick and at this point is hoping for a Brokered Convention so someone else will emerge, interesting
He's hoping for a Hail Mary pass because the field is subpar. I have mixed views about the brokered convention. The questions with that are this. 1. Who is acceptable? 2. Will the general public accept having a nominee dictated to them by the delegates? Whoever is picked must be damn good or it's going to be a Dukakis style bloodbath.
He thinks he is the hottest thing since Hose Habenero so he is getting cocky. This is only the beginning. No wonder the left is celebrating the rise of Santorum.

Right now I don't think Newt is "strong" in any state other than Georgia.
Newt is far from done! The Romney creep machine has not even started on Santorum. When they get done with him - Newt is going to look mighty good to Conservatives.

Santorum would win in a landslide against Romney in MI if only Gingrich graciously withdraws from the race. Time to put conservatism ahead of personal ego. Gingrich is simply not making the sale with primary voters with his pie-in-the-sky stuff promises. The baggage he carries is so heavy its unlikely he will get any further traction except help split the conservative vote against Romney.

There’s a lot of room for this race to shift back toward Romney in the coming days.”
“Voters were more likely to have a favorable opinion of Santorum (67 percent) than Romney (49 percent) in the PPP poll.”

Totally agree, though I think the people in these states will do this anyway. Romney wanted to take out his opponents early but they’re still standing. Santorum’s ahead of him in Michigan and nationally and worst of all, there are debates coming up. Newt will be ready, Romney will be shaky. And we’ll be watching.
While Santorum will be easily dealt with by Obama by attacking his social conservatism, Romney is in a real bind because he can’t do the same thing in primaries.
Unless the Romney campaign manages to come up with photos of Rick entering a gay bathhouse wearing leather chaps, there is not a whole heck of a lot they e can do to Santorum.
That said, I am rooting for Rick in Michigan; as he is the strongest challenge to Romney there and I hope he kicks Mitt's butt! I see it the same as Sarah Palin does: The longer both Newt and Rick can stay in the race the better the chance of defeating Romney.
No Bushes? Little do you know, there is an even bigger Moderate Bush-like clone in the race and his name is “tricky” Ricky Santorum.

Rick has a record & has statements & votes that he's made that fall pretty short of being true Conservatism.
Gingrich has a remarkable record of what was accomplished when he was the Speaker.

If Newt isn’t giving up why do his so-called supporters throw him to the wayside when he really needs their support. He’sbeen castigated by MSM,FOX,talk radio,liars in Congress and the list is endless.
For you who are giving up on Newt show some backbone for God’s sake. Go Newt!
