Gingrich says Santorum 'completely misunderstands' modern warfare

Newt Gingrich criticized Republican rival Rick Santorum on Tuesday afternoon for his “complete misunderstanding of modern warfare” over the former Pennsylvania senator’s remarks on women in combat.

Santorum on Thursday said he had “concerns about women in frontline combat.”

“I think that could be a very compromising situation … where people naturally, you know, may do things that may not be in the interests of the mission because of other types of emotions that are involved,” Santorum told CNN’s John King.

Gingrich fired back at Santorum, calling his credentials to be commander in chief into question during a press availability at the Tulare World Ag expo during his four-day swing in California.

“We should be very proud of the men and women who put on the American uniform and risk their lives in order to protect this country,” Gingrich told reporters. “I just think that Rick completely misunderstands the nature of modern warfare by his comments.”

The former House speaker... said he believes no matter where you are wearing the U.S. military uniform, you are in combat – something Santorum should understand.

“Whatever your technical assignment, whether you’re a truck driver or you’re working with logistics, or you’re a military person, you’re in combat. And I think that we have to understand that from day one,” Gingrich said.

Newt’s right.

Right about what? His misquote of Santorum? Rick wasn't talking about womens' abilities, but about sexual attraction issues.

Gingrich knows what is going on in the world far better than Santorum. Santorum seems like a light weight to me. I really hope Newt can pull it off.

If quoted correctly, his belief is wrong. If he had said “your are at war” it would have been OK. But the uniformed person working stateside is no more in combat than the civil service person who might be working right next to him.

I like and respect Jim Robinson but if you think I fear him you’re out of your ever loving mind.

I don’t think it’s a misquote at all. And since when are we muslims who think that their attraction to a woman is the woman’s fault? Should we have our military women wear burkas? How about keep it in your pants, soldier Sir?

There is also the natural emotion of men to be protectors of women and of women seeking that protection. Additionally there is the real difference between men and women that men tend to be task oriented and readily accepting of hierarchy while women tend to be relationally oriented and resistant to hierarchy. Nor should we discount the physical demands that still exist even in modern combat.

It is time that we drop the PC foolishness that men and women interchangeable beings with only superficial physical differences. Indeed if anything this attitude is demeaning to women since it discounts the values and contributions of the true feminine, seeking instead to force women to become ersatz men.

Heh...you never learn.

"The big money is already headed Perry's way. From Big Oil to Coal, to Industry. An 11 year Governor from a state the size and complexity of Texas, with an extremely solid economic record, is what will win this election. "

"Keep on shooting insults with those who don't agree with you. That will surely guarantee your candidate a win."

Where did he say that? Rick did NOT. But I ask you...why do we need women on the battlefield? Why take chances of emotions - yes, of men - getting in the way when it is kill or be killed, often within a microsecond.

The number of women stepping forward to serve on the front lines of combat will be very few, so we’re not talking about women making a huge contribution here. And, as we’ve heard, the number of combat troops will be shrinking, so it’s not as though we are like Israel having to make up for a small population.

Given that, why would we want to risk our readiness and effectiveness on a risky social experiment. The best fighting force is an all male one, possessed with testosterone, comraderie and physical strength, without opposite-sex diversions.

The other side of this issue is ? why would our country send women into combat and see them get slaughtered like hamburger ? and the emotions that are involved with this concerning men ?
Look at China's one child policy, and the decline of the population in Russia, ask them how that is working out for them.
Biologically speaking, men are more expendable than woman are because women are the procreation cradle of life.
Any nation that sends it's women into the front lines of battle will see a decline of their society, and influence in the world.
We are talking about sending our women into conflict on the front lines here where men will naturally have emotions to defend the women and compromise the mission.

If you want to see Newt Gingrich give a historical perspective in a TV movie watch “Countdown to Looking Glass” which is available on You Tube. It is about a hypothetical nuclear conflict in the Strait of Hormuz

Jim Robinson endorsed Newt Gingrich. He, WE want Newt Gingrich and ONLY Newt Gingrich to be the next President of the United States of America in 2013. You obviously do not want that. Why not find a site that promotes your candidate instead of bashing the endorsed candidate of Free Republic?

What part of Jim's, I OFFICIALLY endorse Newt Gingrich for President is hard to understand?

WE WANT NEWT GINGRICH to be the next PRESIDENT of the United States. We want Newt to move into the White House. We want him to FIRE every Czar on day one. We want Newt Gingrich to become the next Presdient of the United States of America.

We want Newt to win. Free Republic is

While JimRob did endorse Newt, he also stated that he would be fine with a Santorum presidency. He even suggested that if Rick’s momentum stays strong he might vote for him in the California primary.

The 1991 Gulf War proved to be the pivotal time for the role of women in the American Armed forces to come to the attention of the world media. Over 40,000 women served in almost every role the armed forces had to offer. However, while many came under fire, they were not permitted to participate in deliberate ground engagements. Despite this, there are many reports of women engaging enemy forces during the conflict.

I think Newt’s point was that they don’t ‘need’ to be on the battlefield itself. That’s what he’s saying in response to Santorum. They’re serving no matter where they are even if it’s not at the front lines.

I don’t swear fealty oaths to men I neither respect nor trust. Newt falls into that category. You don’t like that? I feel your pain. But by all means, hike up your pants so your panties meet your prostate gland, throw on the pocket protector and go get the principal.
