"Law enforcement suspect Maldonado was funneling some cash from the trips toward his and other political campaigns."

No need to mention political affiliation. Everybody knows those rascally Repubs and Tea Party types are but handmaidens of the cartels. Dripping. With. Sarcasm.

Feds tracked him from SC, lost him in Houston and put out an APB to south Texas LEO’s. Stopped him for speeding(you betcha), leo ask permision to search, refused, an K-9 unit alerts to trunk.Money confiscated and man goes to jail. No wonder we don’t want to stop drugs coming into this country, the local governments are making as much as the drug dealers are!

Hidalgo County, TX is in reality not even part of the U.S. anymore; it is a province of Mexico.

Hidalgo County borders Mexico and its population (which has exploded in the last 20 years, more than doubling in that time) is about 90% hispanic (read: Mexican). It has an enormous illegal immigrant population, and it is staunchly in the camp of the Democrats. Its allegiance is unabashedly towards Mexico.

Money laundering? And we wonder why our southern borders are wide open? I would bet the farm that much of that kind of money finds its way to the Dummycrats coffers. Gotta keep those borders open and the money flow a comin! (sarc)

As far as I look at it, it involves many on both sides . I don’t trust any of them anymore. Law enforcement is a joke in this country.

"Drug cartel, or Stimulus money?"

Let's put it this way, in Chicago this is known as "walking around money."

I think you have that backwards - the cartels appear to own the government.

For years, the dirty sheriff in my county kept the county dry because he was getting a commission from the local bootleggers. The phone for the taxi stand across the street rang inside the sheriff’s office who would then dispatch the taxi driver to deliver booze.

Law enforcement is a joke in this country.

Unless of course you owe $20 in back taxes. Then they spend millions trying to get it!
