As US Navy shrinks, China launches more, better war ships

HONG KONG — As looming budget cuts force the Pentagon to plan for a smaller US navy, China is accelerating the launch of new, increasingly capable warships as part of a sustained drive to become a major maritime power.

Shanghai's Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Company late last month launched the fourth of China's new 071 amphibious landing ships according to reports carried by Chinese military web sites and the state-controlled media.

While most attention has been drawn to the ongoing sea trials of China's first aircraft carrier, military analysts say the expanding fleet of 20,000-ton landing ships, the biggest domestically designed and built vessels in the Chinese navy, delivers a far more immediate boost to Beijing's global influence.

"Having a significant fleet of large amphibious assault vessels clearly suggests a desire for power projection," says Christian Le Miere, a maritime security researcher at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.

"If you want the surgical insertion of forces, for a range of reasons, then you need amphibious response ships."

Military rivalry China's naval buildup comes amid mounting maritime tensions in the Asia-Pacific region, which is likely to be one of the main geopolitical stress points in the coming decade.

Military planners previously had focused mainly on a potential conflict in the Taiwan strait. More recently, however, Japan and China have locked horns over islands each claims in the East China Sea; Vietnam, the Philippines and other nations are disputing territorial claims with China over parts of the South China Sea thought to be rich in oil and gas.

The US Navy has announced it will deploy its own new amphibious assault vessels, the Littoral Combat Ships, to the "maritime crossroads" of the Asia-Pacific theater, stationing them in

So-called Free Trade is essential to fund the Obama Utopia.

If the Chinese are to buy our debt to fund the Utopia, they need dollars. They send us junk, we send them dollars.

It's great for the social justice parasites, not so much for Americans who just want to support themselves and families.

Today's California is not our future. Our future is Greece.

If China is serious about force projection, they are going to need to provide air superiority over their landing ships. Otherwise they are merely providing burials at sea for half a division of their troops.

Also, amphib operations are tougher than they look. They don't look easy.

It’s unlikely that they plan an amphibious landing against Taiwan or Japan; shows of strength over the Spratlys would be more likely given it is close to Chinese airbases. In addition to ‘peacekeeping’ and evacuations like they undertook in Libya last year.

If it really comes down to a major war, the issue of air superiority will be very interesting. Americans like to feel confident -- we have the best planes and the best pilots!

But the reality is that we have fewer and fewer of both. The Chinese have a lot of missiles, and they are hoping that they can bring down a fair number of American planes without depending on dogfighting.

I don't know if they will, and I don't know if they won't. But we have something like 150 F-22s. Not much margin for effor there. Any war of attrition would deplete our fleet pretty quickly.

What to do?

Import tariffs.

Big ones. And some clarity, that it is “free trade” which is making China stronger, and America weaker.

Some cojones might help, too. The GOP is doing nothing, in fact seems to be on China’s side on the matter of “free trade”.

It’s going to become the issue, go forward. Republicans are on the wrong side, and will be hit by a tsunami of voter rage as the problem continues to deteriorate.

AMERICA FIRST.

Wake up people.

Keep speaking up.

People are starting to notice that “Free trade” isn’t anything at all, what we were told it would be.

We were all lied to. By people we very much trusted.

Waking up to a treachery that profound, is not something which happens overnight.

We have been sold out, by the people we believed were on our side, and who should have been protecting America.

They don’t want to protect America. They want to take the money and run. If America is left in shambles, they don’t care.

Get that part clear in your minds people. “Free traders” do not care about America.

They are part of the problem.

The U.S has lost the ability to manufacture most high tech products . This is all due to Clinton's “Free trade” with China. How does that affect our U.S. military readiness? We are becoming dependent on communist China. We are losing the ability to defend ourselves not to mention the ability to support ourselves. Greece and Detroit is our future if trade with China is not stopped NOW. Look at my profile for more.

As opposed to a Welfare state where every spare dollar goes to maintaining an ever growing population of dependents? Make no mistake, our current course is going to suck away every nickel for legitimate Government functions—especially national defense. All we’ll have left is a huge population of deadwood who will riot at the first benefit cut. And to make it worse, we’re chasing our industry away with a combination of mandates, regulation, taxes, and an unprepared (but entitled) workforce.

Honestly, we’re a bunch of idiots.

And you find yourself like a cheating husband, trying to explain why really, honest it's different this time.

No it's not different. We are destroying America, and sending everything which made our nation mighty and great - to the nation rapidly becoming our likely next adversary. It is madness.

First off, I like women. I’ve even argued with one or two.

The point however framed with gender background, might be to consider for a moment “political correctness”.

Is it bold or brave for anyone in America to adopt a position which is politically correct? Be “for diversity”? Advocate government controlled free speech? Hardly, political correctness is brainwashing and meekness, disguised as “individualism”.

What has become mis-named “free trade” is our side’s version of political correctness. It is passively accepted as somehow being some sort of central truth. There’s nothing brave about being for “free trade”. It’s what the mob believe, going along is no more difficult than chanting the same thing, as everyone else with you.

To put it in terms you might better understand, it takes cojones to OPPOSE free trade.

(Supporting) free trade, is a bit like being a good girlfriend. Don’t argue too much. Be agreeable, not pointing out he burps and is a slob.

Free trade supporters, would make good girlfriends.

Real men, support defiance.

Now that we’ve got the gender flames out of the way, how about you talk about the Peoples Liberation Army (Navy), and how it is the PRC is so rapidly becoming strong like we have been, and how it is we concurrently are becoming weak, without jobs, money and industry.

Like the PRC was just a couple decades ago.

Democrats/liberals and your free trade destroyed Detroit as they will destroy what is left of the U.S.A.

Stop believing international socialist propagandists that want to destroy the U.S. border with free trade and illegals.During the 1800’s The U.S. used to have a very small limited government and high tariffs. This is how the U.S. became the world leader, and most technologically advanced society ever with the highest living standards. Read Pat Buchanan’s books or articles to see how free trade ruined America.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2774127/posts

For since the Revolution, America has had a standard of living that has been the envy of the world. From the Civil War through the 1920s, as we became the greatest manufacturing power the world had ever seen, our workers enjoyed pay and benefits that were unmatched anywhere.

Yet our exports in those decades were double our imports, and our trade surpluses annually added 4 percent to the gross national product. How did we do it?

We taxed the products of foreign factories and workers and used the revenue to finance the government. We imposed tariffs of up to 40 percent on foreign goods entering our market and used the tariff money to keep taxes low in the United States.

We made foreigners pay a price to get their products into our market and made them pay to help finance our government. We put our own country and people first.

Detroit the future of America:

That's your problem. Intellectually-honest protectionists will admit that there is a cost to the policies they propose.

So it doesn't take balls, it takes brains to oppose free trade. Even little things, like admitting that we don't have free trade with China, or that raising tariffs hurts some U.S. manufacturers and helps others, or that doubling the price of gasoline will hurt everybody, or that the current federal budget deficit is $1.3 trillion, and that the Amazon Kindle and Wal-Mart have nothing to do with its size.

Detroit might well be the future of America, but tariffs won't save Detroit. As soon as you understand the above, you'll get a decent handle on why Detroit is in the shape it's in.

From there, it shouldn't be too difficult to understand why tariffs won't save the U.S., either, until our federal government is brought under control.

But We also need to stop trading with China and other countries or at least do to China what China has done to us the U.S. Communist China is evil. We can't be dependent on China. Look at the rise of China and and the U.S. decline. It's a cause and effect China's rise was because they stole our American industries:
