Romney surrogates attack Santorum's record

(CNN) - A trio of Missouri surrogates for Mitt Romney took aim at Rick Santorum on Tuesday, saying the former Pennsylvania senator has misled voters on his fiscal conservative record.

"He certainly has been outspoken on social issues, and we honor his record in that regard. But when you get outside those issues…his record shows he's been in the liberal wing of the Republican Party," former Sen. Jim Talent said on a call with reporters.

-snip-

Also on the call was Rep. Billy Long of Missouri and State Auditor Tom Schweich, both of whom praised Romney's credentials in the private sector and bashed Santorum as a Washington insider who falsely paints himself as a conservative.

"I have to admit I'm a little perplexed that…some Missouri friends of mine seem to put Santorum on a pedestal, saying he's 'oh-how conservative.' He views himself, I think, as the second coming of (South Carolina Sen.) Jim DeMint, but he's far, far from that," Long said.

They pointed to Santorum's spending record as a two-term senator, in which the candidate has come under heavy criticism from his opponents over his history of securing earmarks.

Every politician has some regrets in their public service records.
But at least Newt and Rick HAVE some conservative entries in THEIR public service records.

The circular firing squad continues. None of these Republicans will address the real issues about how the country is being destroyed by Obama. It is just attack other Republicans to the MSM and spend millions on attack ads.

I agree. They are wasting money we are going to need in the general. The candidates left standing need to run a positive campaign at this point and win or lose on the merits. All this infighting is going to get us four more years of obama.

I can't tell folks how glad I am that Romney supporters think Leftist policy should be a dis-qualifier for a candidate seeking the Republican nomination to be president.

It impresses me to hear they'll soon be urging their candidate (Romney) to resign now, being men of good conscience and all.

Isn't it a hoot, when the supporters of Leftists take other candidate to task for being a Leftist.

We're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little more now if we can and the rest next quarter.

I disagree. Newt for the most part and Rick to a far greater degree have been solid in attacking Obummer. The only one who has based his entire campaign on destroying the others in the field instead of slamming Obummer is Mittens. From right out of the gate, this Romneycare pushing MA loser has been spending millions on purely destroying the Conservative wing of the party for obvious reasons. He despises us because he is not one of us.

Newt and Rick have been addressing Obama’s failures repeatedly and Newt has outlined many specific and substantive proposals to reverse Obama’s stain on the country. You don’t hear much about Obama from Romney, however. Seems like the people that really bother him are the conservatives.

Circular?

It is all Romney viciousness - 24/7.

The bastard ineligible liar has been attacking
GOP candidates EVEN THROUGH THE 2008 election for Obama.

That’s good. Hear that Newt fans? Don’t attack Rick from the left.

By “these Republicans” I was referring to Romney, Talent, Long and Schweich. Santorum and Newt haven't been perfect, but at least they attack Obama and address real issues at times. Romney and his surrogates seem to just attack Republicans.

Talent can suck it. He has gone all in on Romney. CATO Institute should hire him for being a hack.

Ahhh..so the Repubs are after Santorum like they were after Newt in Florida. Who would have thought it???

Wonder when they will trot out Bob Dole. (It may still be a little early.)

On the other hand, Santorum does need to learn how to tough it out because he flew under the radar after all this time.

However, attacks on Santorum for being too liberal aren’t going to help immunize him to attacks in the general election. It’s obviously inconceivable that Obama will be attacking any of the Republicans for being too liberal or being big spenders...

Ann Coulter was really after Rick yesterday. We already knew he has never been a fiscal conservative and I still don’t like his vote against Right to Work, he explained that because he’s from a pro union state but I really don’t know where that leaves him, what about Boeing in South Carolina? I do have him well ahead of Romney and Paul, they aren’t on my list anymore, but far behind Newt.

These charges are exactly what freepers have been posting all week here. There’s more today. It’s not just the Romney surrogates doing Romney’s bidding.
