Obama's ATF Director, Anti-Gun Zealot Andrew Traver Transferred Out of Chicago

President Obama's pick for ATF director, anti-gun Andrew Traver, has been transferred from his position as special agent in charge of the ATF Chicago Field Division, to head up the Denver division. According to sources, the move came after Traver felt frustrated his confirmation for ATF director had been stalled in the Senate for nearly a year. The estimated cost to transfer Traver is nearly a million taxpayer dollars, all because his feelings are hurt. Traver chose to specifically to work in Chicago, (where his buddies Obama and Rahm hang out) and instead of forcing taxpayers to foot the bill for his transfer, he should stay and finish the job.

Andrew L. Traver, currently the SAC of the Chicago Field Division, will assume leadership of the Denver Field Division. Mr. Traver has also served as ASAC of the New Orleans and San Francisco Field Divisions. Mr. Traver remains President Obama’s nominee to be ATF’s Director.

Not to mention, the chances of Traver getting a confirmation are nearly zero, even if he gets a confirmation hearing. Why? Michelle Malkin told us back in April:

Meet Andrew Traver. He’s President Obama’s nominee to head ATF. The Senate Judiciary Committee refused to act on the original nomination last fall. His name was sent up again earlier this year, and a hearing has yet to be scheduled. Obama’s czar-happy habits should be a red flag on a possible recess appointment.

Traver has spent two decades in the Chicago ATF office bureaucracy. The White House touts his record as a Navy vet and crime-fighter. But it’s his anti-gun advocacy that won him Chicago crony backing in the Beltway. Liberal Republican Sen. Mark Kirk and rabid leftist Sen. Dick Durbin both support their home state bureaucrat. Grassroots Second Amendment groups across the country (not to mention rank-and-file ATF agents) have raised their voices in opposition.

Traver allied with the progressive Joyce Foundation to lobby for tighter federal restrictions of Second Amendment freedoms. He supports curtailing access to ATF databases and opposes privacy protections for gun-owners. He has also compared automatic black-market weapons to legal semi-automatic assault weapons.

As the National Rifle Association points out, Traver misled the public in a fear-mongering appearance on a Chicago NBC affiliate TV news show. In the interview, he hyped “the growing frequency of gang members and drug dealers using heavy caliber military-type weapons” and described them as if they were machine guns: “Pull the trigger and you can mow people down.” Traver and his agents “provided the reporter with a fully automatic AK-47, with which she was unable to hit the target,” the NRA reported. “He then said that stray bullets are ‘one of the main problems with having stuff like this available to the gangs.’”

Except for the fact, contradicting the implication of the NBC scare story and Traver’s rhetoric, that fully automatic firearms are not available for sale through normal retail outlets. But the truth wouldn’t have made for a story as sensationalized and swaggering as the one Traver helped concoct.

The only way Traver will actually assume the position as ATF Director is if President Obama appoints him during recess.

I prefer people who don't make their living off other peoples taxes. They tend to be more ethical and independant in their thinking.

Ask any government employee what they think about something? You get a pause while they test the room for the expected answer to be offered as their response.

“has been transferred from his position as special agent in charge of the ATF Chicago Field Division, to head up the Denver division.” We don’t want him here either, send him to the land of fruits and nuts (left coast)! ATF (Alcohol Tobacco and Fire Arms) shouldn’t be a Government Agency, it should be a convenience store!

“legal semi-automatic assault weapons”

No such thing!

If you can’t select full-auto, it ain’t an “assault weapon”!

You can’t legislate physics!

Or, to summarize an Abe Lincoln analogy, “Calling a cow’s tail a leg, don’t mean she’s got 5 legs.”

If you want to discuss ethics and independent thought tell us what type of government employee we are dealing with.

Are you still upset the Mail Classification Specialist who reviewed your appeal of your $7.2 million postage deficiency (you didn't pay the right rate) ruled that you owed the money?

Try bribing him and you'll find out about ethics.

Now, about independent thought, do you really want IRS agents to have the power to negotiate with short payers?

Look, tell us who you mean ~ not your theory. Then we can talk.

I'd like to start with your local school superintendent who ripped the people off at retirement for millions and millions of bucks.

Why does it cost 1 million to transfer this terrible person. Buy him a greyhound bus ticket and send his a@@ out of town.

My guess is that they are guaranteeing a house relocation package that insures that he does not lose money on his house. With the current market, that could be pricey.
