The recent revelation that the head of Media Matters walked the streets of Washington with a Glock-toting bodyguard may make it a little awkward for the group the next time it seeks a donation from a gun control advocacy group.

Media Matters reportedly took more than $400,000 from the Joyce Foundation specifically earmarked to promote a $600,000 initiative on "gun and public safety issues." At the same time, Media Matters' gun-guarded boss David Brock reportedly obsessed over his own security.

....Brock reportedly told confidantes that he feared for his safety and needed hired guns to keep him safe.

He'll just say he needs to level the playing field because the laws aren't strong enough to protect him from your gun.

Obama uses the same sort of logic regarding campaign finance laws.

It's a way to substitute moral consistency with a tortured logical jujitsu that makes perfect sense to the stunted intellects of the left.

Just proves the truth of the old adage that when guns are outlawed only outlaws [like this crazy thug Brock] will have guns.

Media Matters received $50,000 grant to scrutinize religious media

February 16, 2012
FoxNews.com

ChrMedia Matters for America, the liberal media watchdog — under the spotlight in a weeklong series by The Daily Caller — was instructed by a donor to scrutinize religious outlets like the Christian Broadcasting Network and its founder Pat Robertson.

In 2006, the group received a $50,000 grant that specifically instructed the group to “expand the monitoring and fact checking of religious broadcasts.” Since 2006, Media Matters has focused heavily on Robertson and other religious figures prominent in the media like Focus on the Family founder James Dobson and the late Rev. Jerry Falwell.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/02/16/media-matters-received-50000-grant-to-scrutinize-religious-media/#ixzz1mZsrG1aY

The grant for the religious media monitoring project reportedly came from the Arca Foundation, a 60-year-old organization that funds dozens of causes — many of them liberal-leaning such as ProgressiveCongress and Tides Center.

Media Matters has run a string of items on its website about Robertson and his “700 Club” program. Many focused on Robertson’s comments on Islam.

Among the Robertson headlines were: “Robertson: Europe committing ‘racial suicide’”; “Pat Robertson on Kwanzaa: ‘I think that’s died a merciful death, because nobody paid any attention to it’”; and “Pat Robertson Tells Christian Viewer Named Mohammad To Change His Name To ‘Mo or Something.’”

Media Matters tied to MoveOn.org, ACORN

See who is one of the biggest donors to anti-Fox News activist group

Published: 5 hours ago

One of the single largest donors to the embattled Media Matters for America is a controversial far-left clearinghouse that funds groups such as MoveOn.org, ACORN and a litany of anti-war organizations, WND has learned.

The organization in question, the Tides Foundation, is funded in part by billionaire George Soros, himself a prominent Media Matters donor.

Tides functions as a money tunnel in which major leftist donors provide large sums that are channeled to hundreds of radical groups.

Tides documentation reviewed by WND shows the group provided a total of $4.1 million to Media Matters during the fiscal years of 2004-2009.

During that same time period, Tides provided an additional $110,000 to the Media Matters Action Network, the group’s affiliated progressive lobby.

The Tides Foundation funding to Media Matters was most significant during the progressive news organization’s startup year in 2004, when Tides granted it $2.2 million.

In 2005, Tides sent another $1.1 million to Media Matters.

Reports that Media Matters for America’s (MMfA) campaign to attack Fox News and other news outlets has an ally in Fox competitor MSNBC are evidenced in multiple examples of MSNBC hosts using MMfA material in segments for their shows.

Just in recent weeks, there have been several examples. Two MSNBC hosts who have recently, and regularly, used the organization’s content for their programming are Ed Schultz of “The ED Show” and Al Sharpton of “PoliticsNation.”

While they vary, the most popular targets have been Fox News personalities and conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Feb. 9, 2012 “The ED Show” — Schultz vs. Hannity on “Bin Laden Denialism”:

“I recently read that [Fox host] Bill O’Reilly says MSNBC doesn’t deal in facts,” Schultz said on his February 9 show. “Well, he should check out his own network before he starts throwing around accusations. Bill, tell your buddy [Fox host] Sean Hannity to explain his attack on the Obama administration.

Schultz was referring to comments Hannity had made on his February 7 program about how much credit President Barack Obama deserved for Osama bin Laden’s death.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/15/cementing-the-media-matters-msnbc-link-video/#ixzz1mZuUAMDi

But Schultz may have had some help from Media Matters’ Simon Maloy. On February 8, Maloy posted “The Roots of Bin Laden Denialism” on MMfA’s “County Fair” blog critiquing the Fox News Channel host’s remarks.

“Sean, look, stop with the distractions,” Schultz said. “Hannity claims torture helped find bin Laden, but he’s wrong — very wrong.”

That clip of Schultz also found its way to the Media Matters website.

WND EXCLUSIVE
Did Media Matters fund marketing of Obamacare?

Progressive group under fire for questionable financial practices

Published: 19 hours ago

An organization that reportedly received a grant from the lobbying arm of the embattled Media Matters for America helped the White House to craft and market Obamacare, according to a recently released book.

Yesterday, as part of an in-depth investigative series on Media Matters, the Daily Caller revealed that the progressive media organization gave away $125,000 of its donors’ money to a little-known marketing outfit that calls itself the Herndon Alliance.

Based in Seattle, Herndon is said to advocate for universal healthcare. The grant reportedly came from the Media Matters Action Network, the progressive group’s affiliated lobby. The money was earmarked for “rapid response media capability for countering misinformation and obstructive rhetoric.”

The Daily Caller reported that the revelation, together with other questionable financial practices at Media Matters, has prompted interest from congressional Republicans who are now considering examining the group’s tax-exempt status.

Meanwhile, the relationship between the Herndon Alliance and the Obama White House was revealed in the book “Red Army: The Radical Network that must be defeated to save America,” by reporters Aaron Klein and Brenda J. Elliott.

TheDC top ten: Interesting nuggets from Media Matters’ 2010 tax records

02/15/2012
By David Martosko
Executive Editor

A fascinating paper trail created by Media Matters For America and its lobbying affiliate, Media Matters Action Network, showcases the wealthy political machine that The Daily Caller has been exploring this week.

TheDC has obtained copies of both organizations’ tax returns from 2010 (neither has filed a 2011 return yet), and Media Matters For America’s audited financial statement from the same year. The documents are chock full of insights into what can happen when wealthy left-wing donors lavish no-strings-attached cash on partisan activists.

Tax experts, to say nothing of congressional staffers, may soon be poring over these papers for insight into how Media Matters has managed to keep its tax-exempt status intact. But TheDC has identified ten nuggets of information that stand out from its 2010 financials.

1.Together, Media Matters and Media Matters Action collected $14.6 million in 2010. That represented a massive increase over the $8.1 million the groups raised in 2009.

2.While Media Matters does not publicly identify any of its donors, it is required to disclose the largest dollar amounts it received from individual contributors. Its 21 most generous donors gave more than $7.6 million in 2010 — more than half the total it raised. Two of those donors contributed more than $1 million each.

3.Media Matters reported paying more than $5.7 million in salaries and benefits, including to seven staffers who earned more than $100,000 each. CEO David Brock was compensated by both Media Matters and Media Matters Action, with a total package of more than $299,000. Eric Boehlert racked up over $119,000 in compensation, making him one of the best-paid bloggers in Washington.

4.During 2008, Media Matters entered into a fundraising-sharing agreement with the liberal Center for American Progress, which is run by former Bill Clinton chief of staff John Podesta. According to the agreement, “both organizations agreed to collaborate to raise funds to create a definitive progressive nerve center,” and to “split, equally, all contributions raised for the progressive nerve center.” In 2010 Media Matters paid the Center for American Progress $212,000 as its share of the fundraising take.

5.Media Matters Action, the organization’s lobbying arm, gave away $125,000 of its donors’ money to the Herndon Alliance, a Seattle organization that advocates for universal healthcare. The grant was earmarked for “rapid response media capability for countering misinformation and obstructive rhetoric.” It also gave $135,000 to ProgressNow, an online grassroots organizing project that supports Democratic causes.

It seems that the head honcho over at George Soros’s Media Matters, is a certifiable head case who needs another extended vistit to a phsyciatric hospital.

An investigation by the Daily Caller not only finds the Brock is off his rocker, but it also discovers Media Matter’s works with many media organizations to attack conservatives, and has weekly coordination meetings with members of the Obama administration.

Inside Media Matters: Sources, memos reveal erratic behavior, close coordination with White House and news organizations

By Tucker Carlson, Vince Coglianese, Alex Pappas and Will Rahn
he Daily Caller, 10:02 PM 02/12/2012

Extensive interviews with a number of Brock’s current and former colleagues at Media Matters, as well as with leaders from across the spectrum of Democratic politics, reveal an organization roiled by its leader’s volatile and erratic behavior and struggles with mental illness, and an office where Brock’s executive assistant carried a handgun to public events in order to defend his boss from unseen threats.

...

The intensity of the 2008 campaign, say those who knew Brock at the time, seemed to exacerbate his bouts of what appeared to be mania, a condition from which he had apparently suffered for some time. In 2002, the Drudge Report reported that Brock had “suffered a breakdown” the year before and was treated in the psychiatric ward of Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington.

During a 2008 meeting of the left-wing umbrella group Democracy Alliance outside San Diego, Brock’s unusual behavior drew considerable attention. According to a fellow attendee, “David completely lost his ****. He started getting incredibly aggressive. He alienated important people in the progressive movement, like John Podesta [of the Center for American Progress] and Anna Burger [of the Service Employees International Union]. Lots of drama. There were a lot of conversations about David’s mental health.”

Two years later, at another Democracy Alliance meeting shortly after the 2010 election, Brock behaved in a way one prominent liberal who was there described as “erratic, unstable and disturbing.” Brock’s aggression, this person said, was “hard to ignore and noticed by a number of people,” generating “quite a bit of concern” about his condition. A number of demonstrably odd media appearances Brock made around this time only reinforced those concerns.

At some point, Brock received a prescription for his condition. “Some days he’d come in and you could tell he was on his meds because he would just sit in his office alone and not engage with staff,” says a coworker. Other days, “he’d be intensely engaged. He’d get manic, very reckless and grandiose. You’d see this level of self-confidence in him that would spiral.”

Last spring, some at Media Matters headquarters and in other parts of the progressive world were caught off guard by an interview Brock gave to Ben Smith at Politico, in which he promised to wage “guerrilla warfare and sabotage” against Fox News. “It was insane,” says a coworker. “David was totally manic at the time. We were all shocked.”

http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/12/inside-media-matters-sources-memos-reveal-erratic-behavior-close-coordination-with-white-house-and-news-organizations/?print=1

Media Matters, according to its 2010 tax filing, gave a $200,000 grant to Citizen Engagement Laboratory, Color of Change’s parent group. The purpose of the grant, according to the document, was for a “campaign to expose Glenn Beck’s racist rhetoric in an effort to educate advertisers about the practices on his show.”

[ Gun Control is the tool of slavers and dictators - there is no honest reason to justify disarming free people other then to protect the ruling class from the population whom they - the ruling class - would exploit/harm. ]

The slaughter usually starts shortly after the “voting from the rooftops” option is removed from decent people who live in a country.

This is only a dichotomy if you don’t understand the gun control issue. You see, people like David Brock don’t believe that all guns should be banned. He just believes that law abiding citizens should have their guns confiscated from them. It’s quite alright for the elite class to keep their guns. They can be trusted. It explains why Steven Speilberg can be for gun control yet own one of the largest gun collections around. The peasants on the other hand, well that’s who gun control is aimed at...””

You make the clear case as to why these bustards should be marked as the enemy.
