EDITORIAL: Obama’s unilateral disarmament

White House drive for ‘nuclear zero’ imperils the world

President Obama is working to realize the leftist dream of unilateral nuclear disarmament. This will leave the United States pitifully weak and create conditions for catastrophic deterrence failure.

The White House has told the Pentagon to study options for reducing the number of U.S. nuclear warheads by as much as 80 percent. The future nuclear force could have as few as 300 weapons, far below the cuts to 1,550 required by the START 2 nuclear treaty with Russia. It would give America an arsenal about the size of France's Force de Frappe and raise serious questions on whether it would have sufficient strength for even minimal deterrence.

Supporters of radical weapons reduction contend that Mr. Obama’s “nuclear zero” is not a unilateralist strategy and that deep cuts would only come as part of a framework of global arms reduction. This is mere rhetoric. No such framework has been established or is being negotiated, and no other country in the world is contemplating such extreme cuts. START 2, which the Obama administration claims is a model for the global framework, committed the United States to nuclear cuts while giving Russia the green light for nuclear-force modernization and expansion. The weak verification regime in the treaty puts America in the position of having to take Moscow’s word for it that Russia is complying with the agreed-upon terms. Ronald Reagan counseled “Trust but verify,” but Mr. Obama signed off on “Let’s just hope they aren’t lying.”

On the bright side, I don’t think they can destroy them by the end of the year. This guy has got to go. If not, the end is near, and I’m not really kidding.

As I have commented before on this——It is treason. The first job of the POTUS is to protect this nation and its people.

THIS MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN.

You’re both absolutely right.

Obama has to be defeated in November, our country’s future and our freedom depend on it.

Brilliant move President Dumba$$. Obviously, you would like to have one or two of our enemies attack us at the same time. Your open invitation to attack is crystal clear. It is that or you don't know how to play checkers (much less chess). The only people who are dumber and more evil than President Dumba$$ are the jerks who voted this Anti-American Marxist into office.

Hopefully a few per cent of these neanderthals will smarten up and vote the Anti-American Marxist out of office.

Indeed Jaz my FRiend

As I have said, of all the things this butt wipe has done or tried to do, this scares me the most.

The “fear” factor that the United States has enjoyed will be gone and with it any semblance of MAD.

I have always wondered why I could find no reference to the U.S. in the end times in the Bible.

I pray it’s not for this reason.

This is utterly evil.

This should be the straw that brings us all together. Again it must be stopped.

My father-in-law spent 40 years making those devices and now the Quisling Bastard wants to destroy all of them but 300.

FUBO! Quisling Bastard.

Our political class in action, keeping oil prices down and globalism going for today. One might wonder as to when Iran will have more nukes than our USA.

300 weapons will give us a strong MAD against France!! China, Russia, Pakistan and, soon to be if not already, Iran not so much. Obama will keep going until Kenya is a stronger world power than USA.

At a point soon, this will be halted.

Peace through international treaty obligation.

I didn't have to think more than 30 seconds about this before I started uncontrollably laughing.

I direct the reader of this posting to all of the international arms limitation treaties immediately following the “War to end all wars” aka World War I.

The “Guns of August” had been silent for less than three years before a series of international conferences designed to limit the size (number of ships, weight of ships, a size of guns) of various navies. Remember during the first third of the 20th century a nation's power was measured by the size of its biggest and most visible WMD - the battleship (oh what a horrible name - BATTLEship /s/).

All total there were 5 such international arms limitation conferences 1921 - 1935, Washington, Geneva, and London.

They did a whole lot of good - 18 years after the first one Europe and then the World erupted in war, World War II. The total body count of that war far exceeded the first one even excluding the organized murder in both Germany and Russia.

Why haven't there been a similar world war circa 1963? or 1981? or 1999? Where there any more international piece conferences that were more effective than their predecessors? Did the human race get smarter?

No.

There was no world wide conflict for 55 years because there was a super power able and willing to enforce its ideals and it sure wasn't communist in nature.

When you go back to the 19th century (the 1800’s) there was even a longer period of world piece - a century's worth to be exact. This was also caused by the existence of a single super power that enforced its vision of peace.

So, what do I expect out this latest attempt at world peace through international agreements? FAILURE. Because it is being pushed by the One doesn't mean the nature of man has changed. But then telling the truth like this is no longer popular - “You can't say that”.

Well, “You can't say that” isn't going to stop a bullet much less the primary and secondary effects of a nuclear detonation.

The only people who are dumber and more evil than President Dumba$$ are the jerks who voted this Anti-American Marxist into office.

If the obvious sequel plays out and one or more U.S. enemies promptly attack us with military-grade nuclear weapons, a whole lot of "blue" (actually rosy-red, before the networks got too uncomfortable with all that Democratic red on their maps) real estate and voters will go up in smoke.

A self-correcting problem, if you will.

Now shame on me for even entertaining the thought, because yes, it would still be a nightmare. But at least we'd be able to rebuild without all the ankle-biters.

Well said.

Ronald Reagan's famous saying of “trust but verify” is on the mark but as time passes it is impossible to verify with belligerents and Zer0 doesn't have a clue.

I am bookmarking your post. The idiots who are now in leadership positions are beyond stupid. I understand they are ideologically driven. But it is my understanding that the Ivy Leagues also teach critical thinking. It is obvious that they have failed to educate today’s and tomorrow’s leaders. Because of their failure we will be in a world of hurt in the very near future.

I have had pacifist relatives. I would say my SIL is one. To think someone will not attack you if you do not defend yourself is illogical. To refuse to defend yourself when others are heavily armed is pathologically misogynistic.

Ancient Chinese wisdom: “Insult leads to injury.”
