CRANSTON, Rhode Island (Reuters) - A Rhode Island school board voted on Thursday to comply with a federal court order to remove a prayer banner that has been displayed in a public high school for nearly a half century, saying the cash-strapped district cannot face a costly appeal.

A federal judge ordered the controversial banner, which addresses "Our Heavenly Father" and ends with "Amen," removed last month in response to a lawsuit by a high school junior and atheist who said its religious language made her feel excluded.

But the lawsuit by Jessica Ahlquist stirred strong feelings in the city of Cranston, where some residents saw the effort to remove the 8-foot high by 4-foot wide banner, on display since 1963 in the school auditorium, as a slap at tradition and an assault on religion.

"I'm pleased with the vote," said Ahlquist, guarded by one of the police officers who ringed the packed school board meeting after scouring the space with bomb-sniffing dogs. "Obviously it was the right decision to make."

"What's happening now is an attack on any type of religion," said Ron Valiquette, of Lincoln, R.I. "This is about more to us than one atheist objecting when there is something on the wall that doesn't pertain to her."

Now that Cranston, Rhode Island federal judges and the school board members have voted to remove prayer banner at the public high school; this act by them has been SEEN and RECORDED in the books by God the Father and Christ Jesus, and will BE REMEMBERED at the time of Revelation 20, when this same book is opened; and these men and women from Cranston, Rhode Island will be judged out of those things which TODAY have been written to show their works of evil against the LIVING FATHER GOD; they will RECEIVE their JUST REWARD of eternal judgement and damnation into the Lake of Fire forever.

Revelation 20:12: And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

God will NOT be mocked by Christ rejecting pagans. God will have the last judgement on these who mock God.

In related news... "family" with 3 kids in the schools wants to dictate what ALL the other kids MUST or MUST NOT DO at Recite-the-Pledge time.

Will you help this poll please!?

Why do they even go to court? What exactly would happen if they decided not to answer the law suite? What would happen if the superintendent just said NO! FU! The larger society has decided that you can suck it!

What really would they do? How about if every time the judge got into his car a local police officer happened to write him a ticket? How about every time the ACLU decided that a city couldn't enforce vagrancy laws two bums and a patrol car to protect them showed up on the lawn of every ACLU lawyer and Federal Judge in the area? What would they do then?

What if they where annoyed and frustrated by the rest of society?

At what point do the rest of us just get frustrated enough to simply ignore them? And if necessary, give them the headache?

i thought the quote: “Religion has no place in public schools,” Katzberg said. “The banner is a beautiful object but it expresses a concept that we cannot all agree on” particularly amusing. As if ANYTHING taught anywhere is ‘something we all agree on.’
Katzberg does not understand the very concept of education.

Yes, they understand exactly what they are doing-—and have been doing for 50 years-—destroying God—the fact that our Natural Rights come from God stated in the Supreme Law of the Land.

They are forcing secular humanism/atheism/paganism into the schools on purpose to eliminate Christianity so Marxism/islam/atheism/paganism can take hold. They want mother earth the god and sodomy the practice to force the overturning of the Christian paradigm which creates freedom and individualism and respect for women that nothing else can or does.

What they are doing is unconstitutional since our legal system is founded on Objective Truth—God—and we have the right and duty to say that word in all the country-—which the federal government can NEVER have the right to interfere with. Saying God and Heavenly Father or Divine Providence-—all words said in schools for hundreds of years until the socialist Dewey kicked God out of the schools-—is Constitutional and traditional....our rights come from God and all kids should be learning that in the school system.

"What exactly would happen if they decided not to answer the law suite? What would happen if the superintendent just said NO! FU!"

Kinda like Obambi didn't respond to the latest "Natural Born Citizen" lawsuit and just ignored it, not to mention how he allows Holder to lie and with hold documents in a Congressional inquiry? Obambi ignores our Constitutional heritage/process on almost a weekly basis, and get's away with it. It's way past time for State and municipal authorities to tell the Fedgov go pound sand and dare the Fedgov to assert their authority. It's obvious the Congress critters won't do anything.

I've been saying for years, just ignore their mandates and dare them to do anything about it. In this age, I don't believe even Obambi would piss off the electorate to that extent.

CIVILIAN DISOBEDIENCE! Just stop going along with their socialist/communist crap and say no. They WILL back down. No one in power has the cojones for a new Revolution, especially with all the weapons that are being bought the last 3 years.

As an example: Sheriff Araipo (sp) in Arizona. He has been targeted by the DHS and still following his Oath. The Feds have no jurisdiction over his county nor do they over Gov. Brewer's State regarding the lawsuits the DOJ has initiated about their right to penalize employers for hiring illegal aliens. She is also fighting them as many more Governors are getting fed up with Fedgov intrusion (think 27 States fighting bambicare).

JUST SAY NO! WE'RE DONE AND DON'T WANT OUR STATE TAX DOLLARS BACK (or maybe the States just with hold them as I've promoted for years. What would the Fedgov do?)! WE'LL SURVIVE, JUST GET OUT OF OUR LIVES with your CRADLE TO GRAVE nanny beliefs!

Hi Napolitano, I know your system is seeing all these certain words. You know what Nappy? You and bambi and holder, all your ilk have finally crossed the line. The States are getting pissed; many municipalities are getting pissed; more importantly "We The People" are getting pissed. You think Greece is an the verge of revolution? Keep pushing and watch...

You socialists thought you were going to affect, "...fundimental change in America" as obambi claimed? Well, you've tried and you have made things even worse. Sorry, but there are still too many of us old timers around that won't allow your unrealistic Utopian dreams to come true without a real fight. We are perfectly happy to live under a Constitutional Republic that has been the greatest social/political system to ever exist, and many many will be glad to go to their just rewards to preserve it.

Mark these words: Obama, Napolitano, Holder, you are going down. Like the Soviet Union, you are going to wind up on the "trash heap of history". History will see you as the final and losing cause for socialism, which never works. Thirty years from now, you all will be known as failures for promoting such. I hope I can live that long (I may) to see you people and your unworkable ideals in a textbook.

The Federal government, and the pawns that bring these lawsuits, are enemies of God and enemies of this country. They are trying to create via courts what the Bolsheviks created at gunpoint: a secular state, bereft of morality.

They are doing a great job.

It's a picture of the Knick's point guard, Jeremy Lin; described by some as the "Taiwanese Tebow". (article)
