...Worry no more - Mars, Inc. is going taking that decision out of your hands. The company that produces M&Ms, 3 Musketeers, Snickers and Twix bars has vowed to stop shipping any Mars chocolate products that exceed 250 calories per portion by the end of 2013. Mars will most likely stop producing its king-sized candy bars all together since the large Snickers bar weighs in at 510 calories. "We have a responsibility to help our consumers and the pets they love lead healthy lives," Mars said in a statement on its website. "We are committed to making sure the products we offer, and the ingredients they contain, can fit into a balanced diet."
Mars also produces Dove chocolate bars, multiple kinds of pet food, several gum brands and Uncle Ben's rice products. This move is part of an agreement Mars signed with Michelle Obama's Partnership for a Healthier America. Mars is part of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, a group of 16 manufacturers who have pledged to reduce 1.5 trillion calories by the end of 2015 through lower-calorie options and reducing portion sizes... Mars' statement goes on to note that the company has removed 97% of the trans fat in their chocolate products and plans to "reduce sodium levels in all Mars Food products globally by 25 percent by 2015." Mars has not addressed the total number of fat grams in each product or the amount of sugar - factors most experts agree play a big role in weight gain, especially for children.

Right now a regular Snickers bar has 280 calories and each Twix cookie bar has 130 calories.

Let’s put Mars on a financial diet and stop buying their products. Plus I guarantee they will not lower price to reflect less quantity.
By buying into this health agenda mars is essentially saying their product is junk and bad for you. Stupidity beyond comprehension

This is a red hearing. They are reducing the size to save money. It’s the same as many other products that have shrunk over the past few years: less produce, same price.
This is a PR dream that provides cover for something that they wanted to do for quite some time, but now they have a feel-good excuse rather than an image as a greedy company only interested in profits. It’s for the children and health in general you know...
And if mars really was concerned about our health, they would stop all those advertisements for stickers. Heck if they were really compassionate they would stop making that poison at all.
Or more easily changing the product label to indicate that it now represents “two servings”

As for the third message, it referred to a very simple error which could be set right in a couple of minutes. As short a time ago as February, the Ministry of Plenty had issued a promise (a 'categorical pledge' were the official words) that there would be no reduction of the chocolate ration during 1984. Actually, as Winston was aware, the chocolate ration was to be reduced from thirty grammes to twenty at the end of the present week. All that was needed was to substitute for the original promise a warning that it would probably be necessary to reduce the ration at some time in April.

It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours?
Most likely Mars was planning on dropping the candy bar size again (but Ben "Inky" Bernanke will remind us that there is no inflation), but now get to make points with Michelle for meeting some dietary goals.
Agree - candy, coffee, ice cream - all the sizes started shrinking long ago.
We know better.
That bar that we used to buy for 5 cents now costs well over a buck and is heading rapidly to 2 bucks.
But you can still buy a decent candy bar, in fact quite a nice one, for a dime - if it is a Mercury dime (worth about $2.43) and you buy the bar at your local coin dealer.
Will I be shot or arrested if I buy 2 of these downsized bars???????
