Right now Virginia Republicans want make our Commonwealth a place where a woman who makes the agonizing and deeply personal decision to terminate a pregnancy must endure an invasive transvaginal ultrasound whether her doctor thinks she needs it or not.
Republicans want to make Virginia a place where cracking down on imaginary "voter fraud" is sufficient justification for making seniors, African Americans and any of the thousands of people without government-issued identification jump through burdensome hoops just to exercise their right to vote.
Republicans want Virginia to be a place where women don't know if they will continue to have access to federally approved birth control and contraceptives which are a key part of keeping them healthy.
This isn't a legislative agenda. It's an attack - on women, on voters and on every Virginian who is out of work, sitting in overcrowded classrooms or stuck in traffic waiting for these Republicans to put real problems ahead of the extreme ideology.
This is a Republican attack on who we are as Virginians and it will not end unless we stand up together and stop it. Will you click here and contribute $25, $50 or $100 to help the Democratic Party of Virginia oppose the Republican culture war in the legislature, in the media and at the ballot box this November?
Just a few short years ago under the leadership of Democratic Governors Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, Virginia earned a national reputation for smart government, sound management and a political culture placing jobs, education and opportunity ahead of radical and divisive ideological battles.
It took 8 years to build that legacy and Bob McDonnell and his Republican General Assembly have managed to ruin much of it in less than 8 weeks. This is why we need your help.
Will you contribute today and join our statewide effort to get the word out about the difference between the Democratic vision for good jobs, good schools and an economy that works for everyone and the Republican attack on women, voters and working families? We can send them a message and take this Commonwealth back but we can't do it without your help.
Eh. Most women who have an abortion will have a transvaginal procedure. Those who get a medical as opposed to a surgical abortion will also have a transvaginal ultrasound to determine gestational age and whether the pregnancy qualifies for a medical abortion. Transvaginal ultrasound is more reliable than transabdominal in early gestation.
In other words, abortion involves something up your vagina. Which is how you got pregnant in the first place.
