Santorum Backer Foster Friess Apologizes for Contraception Comment
CBS News ^ | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 02/17/2012 10:34:42 AM PST by AnTiw1

Foster Friess, a major donor to the super PAC backing Rick Santorum, has apologized for a joke about contraception that prompted outrage from women's groups.

"Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives," Friess said on MSNBC on Thursday, adding: "The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly."

The implication was that women held the aspirin between their legs, which left them unable to open them.

In a statement on his website, Friess said the "joke bombed," writing that "many didn't recognize it as a joke but thought it was my prescription for today's birth control practices."

"In fact, the only positive comments I got were from folks who remembered it from 50 years back," he continued. "Birth control pills weren't yet available, so everyone laughed at the silliness on how an aspirin could become a birth control pill."

In view of some of the comments I received when I posted Foster Friess telling the asprin joke, I should make it clear that I thought the joke was funny and a comment on our times.

If I wanted to criticize Mr. Friess, I would tell him he went belly-up all too quickly in the face of negative media attention. He should have stood his ground, as he had nothing he need apologize for.

I am a Newt supporter, Santorum is my alternative, and I am unapologetically anti-Romney. ~A.~

*NEVER* *EVER* apologize to the Left.

It always gives them the moral higher ground.

And given that they HAVE no morals, what’s the point in surrendering to them?

Yeah cowardly behavior in this apology tour.
I mean, he made Andrea Mitchell sooo upset. Big f’ing deal.

I though Santorum was supposed to be the crusader for “family values”.

So his team makes one semi-controversial statement, gets some push back and now they are in full scale retreat.

Not exactly the Knights Templar of American politics are they?

The guy is an idiot.

Aspirin cost money, and crumble easily.

You’re supposed to use an acorn.

I can not believe how stupid, coarse, and super-”sensitive” our modern generations have become: this very ancient joke is considered offensive, while a 4 YO on prime-time TV mouthing the F-word isn’t.

I agree with you. I grandmother used to tell that joke, and my dad took up the joke and used it often. I wish the honorable Mr. Friess had not backed off on it. The aspirin joke is a joke, but abstinence isn’t. We are not animals, therefore, with self control, we can go long periods and even lifetimes without acting like a bunch of dogs in heat.

A lot of misery could be remedied by ladies just saying no and gentlemen listening and respecting them.

“Back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraceptives,”

IMO,it depends how old you are if any offense is taken. Back in the day, my high school days, late 50’s early 60’s, talk of contraceptives was a quiet and personal matter. You usually waited outside the pharmacy for a older guy who went inside to purchase condoms for you. I believe the country is headed toward moral bankruptcy.

Totally MIND-BOGGLING that this innocuous, good-natured joke was treated like some grand cultural crime, while the whole TV/media world is absolutely awash in stomach-churning degeneracy, which these same ‘critics’ would never utter a word against.

Very disappointing to see both Friess and Santorum apologize and back away. I’m sick of the GOP grovelling before all those disingenuous slimeballs in the media the moment they raise their voices in disapproval. This is how the leftists wind up always ‘owning’ conservatives.

According to wiki, Andrea Mitchell was born 1946 so she must have heard this old joke when she was younger. It was all an act on her part to further the "anti-woman" meme being used against conservatives.

So was Greta Van Susteran who got an apparently embarrassed Santorum to call it a stupid joke.

I am puzzled by the outrage (feigned?) expressed against the aspirin between the knees comment. It was good to see the CBS employee act like a real journalist and explain the aspirin comment in the posted article.

In my day it REALLY was a lighthearted way of saying that if you don't want to get pregnant don't have sex.

But most important -- a really good thing! Senator Santorum lit into a MSM employee and did not let up. He hit hard on how the MSM look the other way vis-a-vis ALL controversies and Obama.

Maybe the other Republicans will get the courage to FINALLY stand up to the MSM employees.

Shouldn’t have apologized. It’s common sense.

When welfare pays for Viagra for men in New York, and Bath-House Barry wants taxpayers to fund birth control, Friess is the LAST person who needs to apologize.

#40 on the 1963 Communist Goals list entered into the Congressional Record by Albert Herlong, Jr. (a Floridian who served in Congress from 1949-69) calls for “discredit(ing) the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.”

You’re right we definitely do NOT want a leader who stands by there religious beliefs in the face of “reality”.

What we need is pragmatism and compromise. On a national level for sure. But more on a personal level I think.

We should all just look at the reality that our country and countrymen don’t believe what the bible has to say and compromise our own beliefs to fit that.

That sounds like a great idea to me. It has worked so well over the last 50 years that we should double down I think.

I wouldn’t apologize. The fact that the DNC media have made such a fuss over Friess’s statement demonstrates how pig ignorant they are of older Americans who don’t like the cultural corruption going on around them. It’s as if older voters who appreciate the moral virtues of the past have no right to an opinion, or even a right to hear someone in the public theater say something that reflects their views. I guess suggesting women should have a little virtue is sleazy by today’s perverted standards.

He's 100% right.

People would tell you that a penny did the job just as good as an asprin.

This was a common observation and comment back in the days when people were still free to speak the truth.

Now, there is no greater sin in the Diversified, Politically Correct, Disjointed States Of Obama-Land than telling the truth.

Well when Saladin was marching on Jerusalem and laid siege to the citadel of Tiberius - the owner of the castle and the husband of the woman leading its defenses, Raymond of Tripoli- called upon the army to STAY WHERE THEY WERE - with good pasture and water.

The Knights Templar advised the King that they could not stay there and see “Christian womanhood in peril” and that God would see them victorious.

Saladin was victorious.

Religious fanaticism unencumbered by any reference to actual reality is a great formula for disaster - one the Knights Templar excelled at!

Why, were you attempting to use them as a historic example of how people SHOULD act?

That right there is funny!

Our country is going down the drain. Our world is going to hell in a handbasket.

Yet folks want to make a big deal out of a joke that’s older than dirt.

I am starting to believe that God’s experiment with humans has failed and that He needs to bring back the dinosaurs.

As for the aspirin procedure, it’s really very easy to defeat. You simply tell the young lady, “You might as well, I am going to tell everyone you did anyway”.

My mom used to swear by the ‘rhythm method”. ....... there were 6 of us. LOL
