Top GOP Senator Says ‘If Romney Loses Michigan, We Need a New Candidate’
ABC News ^ | February 17, 2012

A prominent Republican senator just told me that if Romney can’t win in Michigan, the Republican Party needs to go back to the drawing board and convince somebody new to get into the race.

“If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate,” said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity.

The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not.

“We’d get killed,” the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up.

“He’d be too damaged,” he said. “If he can’t even win in Michigan, where his family is from, where he grew up.”

What about Rick Santorum?

“He’d lose 35 states,” the senator said, predicting the same fate for Newt Gingrich.

It would have to be somebody else, the senator said. Who?

“Jeb Bush,” the former Florida governor.

We could use a new candidate anyway.

Why is this a story?

Rhetorical question.

The Establishment is starting to have second thoughts about Mittens. They think that “we” may need a new candidate, to hell with what us peons want.

Why do they think Jeb Bush would be an effective candidate against Obama in this election cycle, just 4 years after his brother was President? Maybe if W. had left office with a 70% approval rating or something I could understand this rationale...but not at this time.

It’s absurd to think that the U.S. wants a third President Bush. The first two were responsible for giving us Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Party leaders sometimes get upset when the little people start voting.

Too bad, they would not get a Palin (oh, she is right winger, my bad)

Jebby has ties to the home mortage collapses in Florida when his administration did nothing to stop the fraud here..so, yeah, bring that compassionate conservative to the ticket) The ruling class is kicking all of the way. Rick or Mitt will not beat Obama, so I give them that. Newt can kick butt on his economic policies. I want the country back on track, not a rino or a Mr Rogers.

You mean that the photo of Jeb Bush, his father and Obama sitting around and grinning at each other does not impress you with how orderly and dignified the machine is? I mean, if Jeb Bush won’t warm the chair until it is Chelsea’s turn, then who?

If Romney loses Michigan the Republicans would need a new candidate.

They would have one. The winner of the Michigan primary.

Duh.

In other words, the establishment will choose the candidate, this primary process is just a trick to fool the grass roots into thinking they have a voice. (I think we need a new party.)

What makes you think establishment republicans have any desire to win?

So we have a prominent, but cowardly anonymous, senior RINO senator who’s so scared Rick will beat Mitt that he’s looking for some RINO come lately to rescue him. As a “prominent, senior senator” how about putting your own name out there!? Or is that too hard for one of Harry Reid’s lap dogs? I don’t recal, did Newt ever get the GOP-e this desperate? If not, all the more reason to GO RICK! Beat the establishment in both parties!

I think the light is dawning on the RINOs that Romney is a turkey, and that unless they can come up with another RINO they can force to the top quickly, then there will be a brokered convention, and *horrors*, it will almost certainly nominate a *real* conservative.

This is a terrible thing, as far as the RINOs are concerned, and they would probably support the reelection of Obama before they would support a real conservative. Because with Obama, they would still be “leaders”, even if only minority leaders.

If a real conservative is the nominee, he would probably win the election, then he would break the stranglehold the liberal RINOs have on the Republican party. It would be the end of their phoney-baloney jobs, power, prestige and money.

This would also be an enormous disaster for the Republican party supporting Beltway Bandits, the consultants, spin doctors, lobbyists, financiers and other such parasitical scum.
