Somehow “thousands” and “massive” don’t exactly synch up.

Follow me on this. I'm a non-gun owner. I am grateful to all the gun owners in my neighborhood for keeping me safe from crime.

The atheists should shut up, enjoy their freedom of conscience, and thank whatever it is they pray to that there are Believers in the world.

Hmmmm.

2011 Major blizzard paralyzes DC. August 23 earthquake fractures top of Washington Memorial and National Cathedral: August 27 Hurricane Irene strikes and Tropical Storm Lee within days of that.

Sure they say. “Let’s mock him some more and toss in some virgin and child sacrifices to boot.”

DC filled by atheists.....a much better target than any mobile home park ever made and The Lord has the range markers already set out.

Let’s all chant together.

* Everything came from Nothing out of Nowhere for No Reason.

* Life is just a curious side effect of an unknowing and uncaring Cosmos.

* When you die, you are just so much compost.

* The best you can hope for is a life of self gratification and a painless extinction.

There, don’t you feel better now that you’re an atheist?

Stronger than the God they say they don't believe in, which shows how pathetic and fraudulent they are.

I love the photo caption in the story. “Photo taken from a different rally.” *snicker*

The sad thing is, the folks who attend probably think they are doing something “important”. I mean, it’s no skin off my nose if a group of atheists hold a legal rally. That’s their right to do so. But you just *know* half of them are going to be walking around thinking they’ve struck a blow against some imagined theocratic threat. Much in the way the spoiled brats of OWS think they actually accomplished something useful for the country.

I wouldn't for the world suggest that this is made-up news, but that impressive crowd picture shown in the article is of "another" rally. So what is it doing there, do you suppose?

I have never really been able to understand this obsessive conviction on the part of anti-religious commentators that to believe in God is to support a theocracy, or that any contemporary political figure - they accused George W. Bush, of all people - has ever made a statement, action, or gesture in that direction. This is a straw man without even the strength of straw and it makes them look even sillier than they already do. Baffling.

The worst thing about being stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico was that every time family or friends would visit they would insist on visiting the cesspool that is Washington, DC.

Every visit to the open sewer would expose us to a gay pride circus or anti- whatever extravaganza. Now I live a comfortable 500 miles away and wouldn't care if a 10.0 earthquake flushed the entire place.

no, because if it rains and no one shows up, they’ll blame the rain for the low turnout.

But of course when 100 thousand pro lifers show up in the cold and snow, they don’t get much coverage...

"...thinking they’ve struck a blow against some imagined theocratic threat."

Yep,unfortunately there's nothing imaginary about the theocracy they are actually encouraging.

"And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." (Rev 13:7-8)

"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:22)

You left out my favorite, “Just Be Good.”.

(Why? As long as you don’t get caught, it’s all the same. In a godless world the soup-kitchen philanthropist is no morally different from the guy with kids chained up in his basement. And—to get into C.S. Lewis a bit—what is this “good” that you speak of? In a world without God, nothing is transcendent, so the definition of “good” changes with whoever is boss this week.)

Interesting line I saw in a movie this afternoon (Pandorum)

The main villan said that he had broken the chains of morality and how freeing it was. In reality he had spent nearly a thousand years in a couple rooms of a space ship full of cannibals (resulting from him playing God) at the bottom of an ocean.

The website for the event states that organizers aim to encourage participants to claim their identity as what they call “secular Americans,” to dispel stereotypes, and to rally for legislative equality.

David Silverman, a chair for the Reason Rally Coalition and president of American Atheists, said that participants are motivated by positivity.

“We’re not going there to complain, we’re not going there to fight,” he told CBSDC. “[We want to] celebrate the fact that we are growing, we are stronger, and we are taking our place in American society.”

This is nutty. Atheists claiming ownership of reason. They can no more prove the non existence of God than clerics can prove His existence. It's a matter of belief, faith. The atheists are not the standard for secular. They are attempting to impose their belief on others. When will theists start beating them with this argument instead of retreating as they get beaten in the courts using a fake argument of separation of church and state.

Very interesting. I did a Bing search, and then a google search, looking for a photo of stupid atheist protestors. I used “atheist protestor photos” as my search term.

What I discovered is that both Bing and Google are strongly biased toward the atheists. I turned up plenty of cartoons mocking Christians, and plenty of atheist sites saying how very nice and kind atheists are. But not a single photo showing atheists in their true colors. Not one.

It’s hard to see how I could get such a result unless both Bing and Google rigged their search engines to show atheists only in a good light, and Christians in a bad one.

The partial caption would suggest that it’s from Jon Stewart’s “Rally To Restore Reason/Fear” rally. But I seem to recall that the media sock puppets got caught using “pictures from a different rally” in their reporting of that one too.

Not necessarily. Christians are both a large group, and one of the safest groups to be nasty to without getting a lot of backlash. Perhaps you should use the term "Loving your neighbor" and see if there is more Atheist or Christian friendly pages?

I would expect an efficacy closer to 0% than to 100%, but certainly not less than 0%, and perhaps greater. If it is greater than certainly the prayer would be worth it don't you think?

Although efficacy was not my point.

Atheism is at least as much faith based as Christianity. I see the world around me. That’s an effect. It causes me to wonder about the cause. An atheist would believe in spite of all the evidence that there is no God. Now it’s possible all of this is here for no reason whatsoever, but what is easier to believe? Is it easier to think we’re simply machines in a universe without a Creator or that the universe had a cause, a Creator, who used various means to reveal Himself to us? It’s impossible to prove either belief, but I find it much easier to believe the latter because it better fits the world I experience around me.

Agnosticism, in my opinion, is the only possible non-faith based position. One cannot prove with absolute certainty that there is or is not a God. However, as I wrote, that doesn’t mean agnosticism is right. I’ve never been to Russia, for example, but I’m pretty sure it exists. I certainly couldn’t prove it exists, but I see evidence that implies it exists.

That’s why I’m a Christian. There’s a written record of Christ’s existence, and He said things that seem very plausible to me. There were other people who witnessed Him in person. The way they lived their lives after the encounter lend even more credibility to what was taught. I also see the impact in my own life of how much better it is to make peace with God through Christ. Sure. I’m acting on faith and cannot be certain it’s all true, but it’s the best explanation for man’s existence that I know.
