Posted on 02/18/2012 5:44:00 AM PST by SES1066

Thousands of atheists are expected to attend the Reason Rally next month in Washington, D.C., an event that organizers hope will unify a large part of the secular community.

On March 24, the National Mall will be populated by those who sympathize with atheist perspectives, generally defined by an absence in belief of deities or other religious icons. ...

[David Silverman - Organizer & President of American Atheists] “There are more atheists in the country right now than Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists combined and doubled – that’s a lot of people, and we are the most hated … for no reason other than pure and simple religious bigotry, spurned by ignorance,” Silverman said. “Ignorance is killed by awareness … we want to put many faces to [atheism], so people will understand us better and tolerate us more.”

I will bet that there will be far more coverage of this march in March than there was from the MSM about the annual “March for Life” held in January. Come on NY Times, prove me wrong!

Massive Rally? I don’t think so.

Who do they pray to, for good weather for the event?

Pish-tosh. Nobody even thinks about atheists, except when they attempt to interfere with the right of free exercise for others because they're "offended." For people who claim to be "reasonable," they certainly do a lot of irrational emoting ...

Good. Let America see them in all their glory.

A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.

Pffft, there is a rally on the big three networks from 8pm to 10pm with little rallies throughout the rest of the day. Atheists own the entertainment and much of the news industry. I have no bigotry against them, but they constantly spew bigotry toward us.

Atheism is kind of idiotic in my book at least but I really don’t think about it or about atheists. But talk to my atheist friend and he is pissed off at those who are religious. He has a bit of an obsession...So much so I’m not getting into any more talks with him about religion. He’s getting too vociferous.

‘We Are Stronger’

Yeah, but a good shower with lye soap and deodorant will usually take care of that problem for you.

More atheists than Jews? I think there's more Bible-believing Christians than Jews. You want to take US on? Our heritage, like that of Jews, includes many facing lions in arenas, being burned to death, being shot, being tortured and some being slowly starved to death. The heritage of atheists includes a lot of really, really serious arguments and sitting around the coffee house. Good luck, atheists.

These people are not non believers, they are anti-believers.
Atheists are the most fearful people I know. Terrified God is real, so work very hard at trying to convince themselves and everyone else He is not true.

Exactly!

“These people are not non-believers, but anti-believers.”

They are not atheists (indifferent toward G-d) but antitheists (hostile and angry toward a G-d they claim doesn’t even exist).

Somebody here wonders why non-belief has become something other than indifference. Fact is, “atheism” is also a religion, complete with zealots & fanatics.

"Belief" is unrelated to reality and completely useless in demonstrating truth. Most humans prior to the 16th century "believed" that the Earth was flat and that the observable universe revolved around it. That belief did not make those suppositions true. Likewise, an atheist's belief that we and the universe are limited to what our five senses can perceive is only that, a belief, and it has no more value than the belief of an ancient Greek that the sun and moon are gods.

I have been reading an interesting book (Quantum Physics, Near Death Experiences, Eternal Consciousness, Religion, and the Human Soul by William Joseph Bray) which manages to use quantum physics and the last hundred years of QP experimentation to demonstrate the existence of the soul and an infinite human consciousness (created by an infinite G*d). The version that's available on Kindle is an early draft in need of a good spell check and edit, but if you can get past that, the math, and the writer's intentional repetitions it's a very interesting read.

The thesis of the author is that the mathematics and research proving the quantum nature of this universe validates the religious view that consciousness (me, you, our soul) is infinite in nature (the author is himself a Christian, BTW) and only really completely invalidates one religion, that being Atheism. Atheists are stuck in the primitive view that matter is actually solid, Time and Space are limited to what we perceive, consciousness is created in a finite glob of brain matter, and that when we die "that's it". In other words, the rational science they like to tout but do not understand actually contradicts their severely limited view of reality. They are the "Flat Earthers" of the 21st Century.

How funny. They must not be very reasonable. Scientists and reasonable people can reason to the existence of a creator.. Hm. What that creator is like ultimately must depend on revelation but hey, the Catholic Church even talks about faith and reason.

You would think so...... Anyways I told him he believed in atheism more than I believed in God. This ticked him off. He said he didn't believe in atheism. What we finally settled on was that his non-beliefs were stronger than my belief in God. He is nuts on this and not pleasant to listen too. He belongs to the local skeptics group and local atheist group. Both have activities. Last month they held a public debate with a minister from Calvary Chapel. I was invited but did not go

I laughed out loud when I read this. My experience with atheists is they have absolutely zero skepticism about their position on God. A true skeptic would be skeptical of both atheism and God.

Stronger than what? God? Those who believe in God? Stronger than they were a few years ago? I wonder if they have outreach - missionary work, try to convert, etc. Actually I know the answer to that one; they do. They feel lonely and doubts might creep up on them in the dark of night, so they want more numbers to prop up their belief in non-belief.
