In the interests of justice(NY)

Sometimes zero tolerance makes zero sense.

Take the case of former Marine Ryan Jerome, an Indiana jeweler arrested last September at the Empire State Building for carrying a .45-caliber handgun — legally purchased and licensed in his home state.

It’s not as if Jerome was trying to hide the gun. He volunteered to security personnel that he was carrying it, and actually tried to check it. Nor is he a notorious gangster; he was carrying some $15,000 in jewelry, and needed the gun for protection.

Yes, he did misunderstand New York’s gun laws; possessing an illegal pistol in the Empire State is a Class C felony, with a mandatory 3 1/2 year sentence. But that hardly makes him a menace to society.

Yes, Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance has offered to take a felony charge off the table if Jerome pleads guilty to a misdemeanor, pays a $1,000 fine and performs 10 days of community service.

Vance clearly thinks this is a reasonable deal. Jerome thinks otherwise, and he’s willing to go to trial.

This is risky business, but principle matters to some people.

There is nothing in the public record that suggests Jerome is anything other than a law-abiding citizen — indeed, one who has served his country honorably.

If the DA has evidence to the contrary, he should lay it out for all to see.

Justice is the last thing New York politicians have had in mind when it comes to guns. The whole Sullivan law was put into place by a ganster to protect his criminal freinds.

In the inverted world of 21st-century Leftists--a notorious gangster is a victim of social injustice, and a good citizen is a menace to society

It's part of groupthink newspeak.

You know. Like "love is hate", "war is peace", "freedom is slavery", "intolerance is tolerance", "oppression is liberalism." That sort of thing. "Exploitation is compassion." "Totalitarianism is representative government." "Greed is generosity."

The morons love it.

I wouldnt go anywhere while possesing $15,000 in jewels without a gun.

that being said...I would know better than to go the top of the empire state building or to the 9/11 memorial or to any city, state of federal attraction in NYC with a weapon.

guess I have lived here to damn long....

my NY State carry permit is NOT applicable in NYC....

I can only say THANK GOD I DO NOT LIVE IN JERSEY!

they are just that much worse.

My jewels are worth at least that! To me anyway. LOL!

Seriously though, it is a shame that, to make sure you aren’t going to get in a bunch of un-needed trouble, folks really need to check out where it is “safe” to carry and where your time on the street is at stake. When we drove from FL to NV I checked out our route and avoided places where we might get in to a hassle. Avoided IL in it’s entirety. Just on the off chance that we might be going over the speed limit or something that could entice a stop by local LEO’s. Agree that this should NOT be the case anywhere one travels in this country. I don’t understand why some out there believe that the BOR “grants” us the “right” to do anything. The BOR used to protect us from the gov. Not so much now. Heck, the EPA could probably have you shut down for polluting the air with gun smoke. WTH?

Avoided IL in it’s entirety.

Yuppers. I avoided New York on a recent trip from Montana to California.
