Reporting from Columbus, Ohio Republican GOP hopeful Rick Santorum may be the most prominent homeschooler in America. So it might not have been surprising that, on Saturday, he told a conservative Christian audience that he intended to homeschool his children in the White House.
In his remarks to the Ohio Christian Alliance, however, Santorum went further, seeming to attack the very idea of public education.
In the nations past, he said, Most presidents homeschooled their children in the White House.
Parents educated their children because it was their responsibility.

Why do we have a Dept. of Education? Hey education is fantastic, but I’m pretty sure it’s not enumerated in the Constitution.
Right now there’s an illusion that it actually DOES something, and it does not.
It should go away, out of respect for honesty. Or at least out of deference for performance. Hey in the private sector is you do your job poorly....
YOU GET FIRED.
Sorry, just, “keepin’ it real”...
factory era mean public schools take the raw material of young human lives and turn them into widgets of destructive nothingness.
Santorum is on fire!
Rick, they are communist, homosexual, democrat and useful idiot manufacturing plants.
You are going to need to understand your opponent and his tactics if you are going to have any chance at all of beating him.
One of the old-line leftist monthlies had a piece in it (this was about 30 years ago) detailing how John Dewey had effed up public education by putting it on a time clock and introducing the modern grade system, standard texts, and standardized testing — all designed to prepare the proles for a lifetime in blue-collar jobs. Thanks Libloather.
I remember this. An ersatz scandal if I ever saw one.
Every family whose children attend public schools "charge the taxpayers" too -- and most public schools cost the taxpayers a lot more, per pupil, than any online charter schools.
It seems the Senator is a wise husband and father!
I was just re-reading a tract written by: Dr. Benjamin Rush
(1745-1813) one of the youngest signers of the Declaration of Independence in 1776).
He was a distinguished physician and scientist who held the chemistry professorship in America.
The tract he wrote was titled: “The Bible in Schools.”
It is worthy for all educators and scholars to read. It is published by “American Tract Society.”
Dewey became a socialist because of the Pullman strike.
Santorum seems to keep gaining as the media runs more stories likely intended to cause voters to get upset.
I'm sure some of it is because there are only two “not-Romneys” left. But maybe it's also because conservatives actually **LIKE** what they hear about Santorum when reporters start digging into his “out of the mainstream” views and explaining them?
“Factory’’? FACTORY!?! There isn’t anyone under the age of 40 who could tell you what that word means! “Factory’’! Bwahahahahaha!! Try asking some 20 year-old what a ‘’phone-booth’’ is while you’re at it. “Factory’’. What a moroon!!
I agree - he didn’t think it out and ended up with a premise that can be ridiculed an belittled. The real problem is that socialist brainwashing and teachers “self-actualization” has taken the front seat and education is relegated to the back seat. Rick needs to think before he speaks and I look at this as a sign that he’s not the thinker he’s trying to portray himself as.
The very idea of public schools is a communist invention.
“turn them into widgets of destructive nothingness”
Well spoken.
