Do you feel anxious if your cellphone isn't nearby?
Does just the thought of losing your phone make your heart pound?
Do you keep an extra phone on hand, just in case your primary phone breaks?
Do you sometimes take it to bed with you?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you may be a nomophobe, and you are not alone.
Nomophobia -- the fear of being without your cellphone -- is on the rise, according to a new report sponsored by SecurEnvoy, a company that specializes in digital passwords.
Using the online polling service OnePull, SecurEnvoy found that 66% of the 1,000 people surveyed in the United Kingdom say they fear losing or being without their phone.
Just four years ago a similar survey found that only 53% of people suffered from nomophobia (no-mobile-phobia).

Not a fair question. I do so because I use the alarm, not because I am afraid I will miss a call. I left the thing at work over my weekend off once. They were more upset than I was.
Yep, I wondered why I had the panic attic, nomophobia, now I understand. Sitting at the mall while my wife turns into the department store (my cue to find a bench, pull out the IPhone, bring up the Kindle app, sync with the book I’m reading at home, sit back and enjoy!). But reaching for it, the holder on my belt was empty... The IPhone was still at home charging. The reaction was panic, was it lost? Then anger at myself for being forgetful. Then a slowing if the heart rate and synapsis firings... Then a comatose boredom for 2 hours. So now I know what the attack was all about ... Nomophobia. Now I feel better.
It can come in handy if my car breaks down, call AAA. Can check email on it (deduct 15 cents for each) etc. But I'm not chained to it and I can survive without it, say, if I go off to work and forgot the phone at home. (Just hope I don't break down.) No camera. Pretty much used to make occasional phone calls.

Some public places like airports, etc may have them and I do see one at the local laundromat (35 cents I think). But overall, yes, public phones have disappeared.
Years ago I’d have to call someone from a pay phone to be let into the building where the non-commercial radio station (where I volunteer) is. Now, I use my cell phone...costs me
about 25-50 cents for a quick call. No public phone to use.
I have calculophobia, fear of being without my calculator.
Fortunately as long as I keep my I Phone safe and by my side, I always have my calculator, my e mail and most important, FRee Republic.
Two weeks ago I signed up for the Samsung Galaxy S II, retail on it is $750 but it was on a promo for $100.
I don’t use even a fraction of its bells and whistles, but its nice having an actual faster internet connection than my home PC, two nights ago I needed a metric fastener torque spec, I found it on my phone in like 5 seconds.
I could even surf FR and post on it. Awesome tool, I can read any of my 100 plus Kindle books on it anytime and my monthly bill should be about the same as what I had to pay for my old Tracfone, but its not grafted to me at the least and I don’t partake of any social circles on it, its just a tool like anything else in my toolbox and I don’t sleep with my torque wrenches.

If the cell rings when I’m driving, I answer because it’s an “Emergency only” phone. If they ban cell phones while driving, which I approve, they had best make exceptions for people like mr, who have to respond immediately.

One of the many downsides of cellphones is that for many people they can no longer leave work. I resisted having a cell phone for this reason for a long time, and I was an oddball that required special consideration.
NoMoHomoPhobia - fear that there won’t be any more homosexuals around to fund the Democrat party.
If a nomophobe can’t put his phone down, what’s the term for a person who hates them? Because that’s me. Sometimes I think they were one of the worst inventions ever. Why do people want to be accessible all the time? And I am so sick of seeing people blindly shuffling along, not knowing where they are, because they are so preoccupied with those damn things. On the way home the other day, I almost got creamed TWICE by idiots yapping on phones behind the wheel.
The next time you see someone creeping along in the passing lane or swerving all over the road, get beside them and take a look. Chances are they’re on the phone.
