The Left's Hatred of Religion
The American Thinker ^ | February 19, 2012 | T.R. Clancy

Posted on 02/19/2012 1:54:30 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

...JoanWalsh at Salon writes that she was raised Catholic, but has since turned into "a secularfeministliberaldemocrat." Last Friday evening, when Obama's supporters were still clinging to their belief that his announcement of a compromise would steal all the wind out of the bishops' sails, she asked this:

Why did we spend 10 days listening to prominent Catholics, including even some liberals and Democrats, insist that the White House had overreached and trampled on "religious freedom" - in this case, the "freedom" of the Catholic hierarchy to impose rules that even most Catholics don't live by? ("Catholic tribalism and the contraceptive flap").

Ms.Walsh can't imagine that Catholic rules being defined and preached by Catholic pastors without government interference is a matter of religious liberty, whether individual Catholics choose to obey those rules or not.

.........The progressive conceit is that human history is a continuum, clawing on vestigial fins inexorably away from abject ignorance and superstition at one end toward a science-based utopia at the other. Europe's atheists traced the pathology of religion to the neurotic imaginations of terrorized savages, and the result is that modern intellectuals routinely assign religious believers to the Neanderthal-Superstitious segment of human evolution. Today's American Smart Set expect the ultimate -- no, make that the imminent -- extinction of religion with far more certainty than they do all that cynical hooey about anthropogenic planetary destruction. But rather than go extinct, we survive, an anomaly, taking up space right there amongst all the iPhones, mice-cloning labs, and transgendered celebrities, the milestones of how far we've come.

Is it any wonder that when the Catholic bishops' balked at the HHS mandate, frustrated liberals had outbursts like this one from Rep.DianaDeGette,D-Colorado: "I woke up this morning in the 21st century, not in the Middle Ages." ("Contraception controversy consumes D.C., campaign").........

Examine the rationalizations of commentators defending the Obama faux-compromise on the HHS mandate and you'll see what I mean.

There's the problem right there. Where does a government bureaucracy HHS get off "mandating" how a private enterprise conducts its business?

THAT should generate as much outrage as trampling on religious freedom.

Where are our elected Republican representatives on this issue? They don't even seem to care that they've been rendered irrelevant.

From the article:

"Questioning authority is fine in its place. But questioning the administration of Barack Obama is not its place."
That's really the bottom line on everything about the crowd that backs Barry. They claim the right to regulate and carefully meter out everything associated with the Bill of Rights whether it's First Amendment free speech that allows people to openly defy the King Barry crowd and the free exercise of religion, the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, and even the right to be secure in your person an property. The only totally sacrosanct right is the right to privacy they discovered in order to make child sacrifice to the gods of Secular Humanism legal.

Not to worry, though, once they manage to murder the "inferior races" out of existence they'll "discover" that abortion is just awful and immediately start imprisoning and destroying those now working so hard to help purify the race on their behalf.

Nah. They hate themselves as much as those "inferior" to them.

"For none is without sin..."

We also have a rule against cussing (in particular, taking the Lord's Name in vain). That doesn't stop people from breaking that one, either.

Still, that doesn't negate the religion, nor the right to believe and follow those beliefs as best we can.

Suppose we applied the logic to secular law. Obviously, people murder and steal. Does that mean we don't have to pay attention to the laws against murdering and stealing?

Wouldn't work out very well, would it?

I may not be perfect, but I'll stand with the Church.

It all ties back into the Left’s believe that they are smarter than us hoodwinked and clinging masses with thoughts that we can handle freedom (have innate worth). They hate that pesky Constitution with all that “religious stuff” that must be overcome and rooted out for true “progress” and “order” to happen (and why they don’t see people as individuals but rather identify them as groups).

The Left is convinced they know best. Radicals in colleges and universities have been feeding students this anti-American, anti-Christian — science knows best — ideology for decades.

The Left has infiltrated the churches (government charity and the green revolution preached from the pulpit) - leaving our government, our schools and our churches all on the same socialist path.

It is the conceit and arrogance of liberals that feeds their contempt for conservatives and what (in their way of thinking) gives them license to lie and manipulate us (since they are enlightened through science and therefore it is for the good of all humanity).

Having the FREEDOM to make that choice is rather uniquely American.

Because....

The Virginia Act For Establishing Religious Freedom

Thomas Jefferson, 1786

Well aware that Almighty God hath created the mind free; that all attempts to influence it by temporal punishments or burdens, or by civil incapacitations, tend only to beget habits of hypocrisy and meanness, and are a departure from the plan of the Holy Author of our religion, who being Lord both of body and mind, yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was in his Almighty power to do; that the impious presumption of legislators and rulers, civil as well as ecclesiastical, who, being themselves but fallible and uninspired men, have assumed dominion over the faith of others, setting up their own opinions and modes of thinking as the only true and infallible, and as such endeavoring to impose them on others, hath established and maintained false religions over the greatest part of the world, and through all time; that to compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves, is sinful and tyrannical; that even the forcing him to support this or that teacher of his own religious persuasion, is depriving him of the comfortable liberty of giving his contributions to the particular pastor whose morals he would make his pattern, and whose powers he feels most persuasive to righteousness, and is withdrawing from the ministry those temporal rewards, which proceeding from an approbation of their personal conduct, are an additional incitement to earnest and unremitting labors for the instruction of mankind; that our civil rights have no dependence on our religious opinions, more than our opinions in physics or geometry; that, therefore, the proscribing any citizen as unworthy the public confidence by laying upon him an incapacity of being called to the offices of trust and emolument, unless he profess or renounce this or that religious opinion, is depriving him injuriously of those privileges and advantages to which in common with his fellow citizens he has a natural right; that it tends also to corrupt the principles of that very religion it is meant to encourage, by bribing, with a monopoly of worldly honors and emoluments, those who will externally profess and conform to it; that though indeed these are criminal who do not withstand such temptation, yet neither are those innocent who lay the bait in their way; that to suffer the civil magistrate to intrude his powers into the field of opinion and to restrain the profession or propagation of principles, on the supposition of their ill tendency, is a dangerous fallacy, which at once destroys all religious liberty, because he being of course judge of that tendency, will make his opinions the rule of judgment, and approve or condemn the sentiments of others only as they shall square with or differ from his own; that it is time enough for the rightful purposes of civil government, for its officers to interfere when principles break out into overt acts against peace and good order; and finally, that truth is great and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons, free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them.

Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly, That no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burdened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinions in matters of religion, and that the same shall in nowise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.

And though we well know this Assembly, elected by the people for the ordinary purposes of legislation only, have no powers equal to our own and that therefore to declare this act irrevocable would be of no effect in law, yet we are free to declare, and do declare, that the rights hereby asserted are of the natural rights of mankind, and that if any act shall be hereafter passed to repeal the present or to narrow its operation, such act will be an infringement of natural right. . That's just the vestigial remnant of the Roman state-established cult of religionist eunuchs showing its true Collectivist plumage.

Roman Catholicism has ALWAYS been about tyranny via governance through state-established religious mandate... EXCEPT in America - where state establishments of religious are expressly forbidden by the 1st amendment.

And as chuffed as Ms. Walsh is about Catholic students standing up to their own bishops, you can bet she doesn't love it at all when America's Catholic bishops stand up to their own president. Questioning authority is fine in its place. But questioning the administration of Barack Obama is not its place.

Heh, heh. Ain't that the truth.

Right!

Like a bunch of selfish kids, all the liberals can think of is Gimme, gimme.

Thirty years or more ago, the libs were bragging about not having children and saying conservatives were having children as a matter of conceit because the conservatives wanted replicas of themselves. Now, the libs are complaining because there aren’t enough workers to pay THEIR social security, They don’t learn. Christ said, “Go ye forward and produce.” Maybe, just maybe, God foresaw the need for the children to protect the parents.

Perhaps, but I don’t pretend to speak for God, there should be a law that says if you could have, but didn’t produce children because of your selfish life style, you can’t collect S.S.

And, sadly, it is working. Our patriotism, morality and spirituality are being attacked constantly, on all fronts. I ask: with all the "talk" and "push" of and towards "progressivism," just what is it exactly we're progressing to? Look all around...we are truly rotting from within as a nation, a country, an American people. Our values, our faiths, our traditions are being blasted, belittled, ridiculed, bemoaned constantly.

Instead of things ever getting better, they're progressively getting worse! More corruption, more crime, more fiscal failure, more demoralization, more disease, more angst, more violence, more "give me/give me/give me - more me first," more attacking of religious freedoms, you name it...the list is endless on the path to destruction of which we are headed as a nation. Call me pessimistic, fatalist, whatever...but you can see it all around. The politicians are the worst for they are the ones culpable more than most for the destructive decisions they make and the influence those decisions have over the affairs of our lives. Sorry to be so gloom this a.m., but that's the way I see it.

“Hatred of Religion” ?

Not completly true . They like the fake “religion” of islmam which fits with socialisms as a totalitarian collectivism..

“Truth will make you free” ... That’s why they fear christianism and judeo-christianism.

And they try to use islam as a tool against christian societies and cultures

“I don’t pretend to speak for God, there should be a law that says if you could have, but didn’t produce children because of your selfish life style, you can’t collect S.S.”

I would disagree with the need for a secular law, however within your sentence there is a lot of profound information.

God does speak!

His children aren’t listening!

He commanded multiply and replenish.

Those who choose otherwise are a law unto themselves.

Those who so choose aren’t likely to submit to a secular law demanding production of children.

Social security is a secular law, but dependent on people living the higher law, regarding multiply and replenish.

We all see now the results of secular thinking, and secular law, as all things good depend to a degree on obedience to higher authority and His law.

The supposed good intentions of those secularists who claim overpopulation is bad, and that God didn’t know what he was doing when he created our habitation, are shown to be very unwise in their thinking.

This doesn’t begin to address selfish as a life style.

I make only one comment on the subject which is, “Spread the wealth around” is not something unique to Mr Obama, but found in the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth wherein we are taught to care for others as we care for our self.

Ok I need to make one more comment on the subject. Jesus taught other thinks as well, one of which says the idle and lazy don’t eat the bread of the worker. In so many words not an exact translation.

The difference between what Jesus taught, and what Mr Obama would demand through government edict, is found in the word tyranny.

modern intellectuals routinely assign religious believers to the Neanderthal-Superstitious segment of human evolution.

The Neanderthals were not religious, the Cro-Magnons were. The religious have a strong competitive advantage and were selected for.

Hate comes from envy and leftists are driven by envy. The left envies the competitive advantages of the religious. Essentially it is size envy: the religious have larger families, live in larger houses, drive larger cars, live on larger pieces of land, have larger pets, sometimes even own ponies and horses. Leftists also envy that the religious have competitive advantages in war, sports, and business. The religious in general live longer, have more successful marriages, and live happier lives. Any atheist can objectively measure this. The nature of envy is not to acquire the objects of their envy, but to destroy them. Leftists are evil.

"The left hates religion and God’s moral authority for the simple reason that religion usurps power and authority from government.

Bingo! I went through 29 posts before someone got to the point: Why does the Left hate religion?

The Left's God is government, from which all blessings flow and if the blessings don't come from government, government, the Dear Leader, will damn well get credit for it. Dear Leader Barry, just the other day, was taking credit for the jobs created by Boeing at its Dreamliner factory in South Carolina AFTER Barry's labor goons spent years trying to shut it down.

Government, the Left's God, is a jealous god and will stand for no other gods beside it. The God of the Bible gets in the way of the Left's Agenda with it's 3 million commandments, so God has to give way, it's important.

Did you hear Maxine Waters called Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor - demons? Did you also catch the part, where Maxine calls the House of Representatives 'our hall' and basically take possession of the Federal Government? That's how she really believes. Maxine sees government as her religion, her church and she believes that only true believers are legitimately allow to lead her church. Imagine how Catholics would feel if Jimmy Swaggart were made Pope. They'd go nuts.

That's how the left feels when a Republican, any Republican gets elected President, or when the Republicans win control of Congress. This is sacralige.

Now, RINO Republicans and most elected Republicans don't get this about the Democrats. They think Democrats are like them, but just push different political policies. No, no, no. The Democrats have been transformed into militant socialist religion with the goal to force their theology onto every, living, breathing soul. And on the way to doing this, they will be eating their own and tossing folks overboard left and right (Joe Lieberman) as the push their crazed religious crusade.

As Rush says, you must have the courage to face the truth. BTW, Romney does not have that courage, and doesn't understand the situation.

...is bigoted hogwash too?

You'll note it's written in the language of the common people, NOT in Latin.

Just like this:

"I HAVE SWORN UPON THE ALTER OF GOD ETERNAL HOSTILITY TO EVERY FORM OF TYRANNY OF THE MIND OF MAN"
--Thomas Jefferson

"ETERNAL HOSTILITY" -- hmmm evidently TJ, the author of the American Declaration of Independence, was "bigoted" against the historical antics of a certain cult of religious eunuch tyrants, too.

Got Morals and Dogma?    You can pick up a copy at the bookstore that was built exactly 1 mile N. of the White Hut, 2 miles N of the Jefferson Memorial --- no need for a reservation as, evidently, the builders were expecting you.

“It is the conceit and arrogance of liberals that feeds their contempt for conservatives and what (in their way of thinking) gives them license to lie and manipulate us (since they are enlightened through science and therefore it is for the good of all humanity).”

Yes, it is the self-perpetuated illusion of intellectual superiority that is at the root of what drives all that the ‘leaders’ on the left say and do. Further, this has its roots in the American and European universities that have long since stopped being cathedrals of open-mindedness and expansive thought. The ironic dichotomy between how advanced and ‘modern’ and bright the academic left thinks it is, and the reality of its vapid and predictable diatribes is astounding. You want to find ignorance? Start with the self-convinced.

Why did we spend 10 days listening to prominent Catholics . . .

Well, here's just a few reasons which come immediately to mind:

  1. Because if we force Catholic charities to pay for abortion pills today, we can force them to pay for abortions next or
  2. force Evangelicals, Mormons and Catholics to pay for sex change operations or
  3. vet all church leadership (regardless of denomination) for government approval to make sure religion stays out of politics . . . like they do in Communist China.

Of course, none of these examples (and hundreds more which they could spawn) bothers your average libtard in the slightest. Because if you can frame it as a women's right issue or (insert any other favored) group's right issue, then religion has no right to interfere in their demented mind.

Even though it makes about as much sense as saying my absolute right to sexual intercourse requires that you submit to rape whenever I want it.

These lefties were not raised or practicing Catholics at these catholic Colleges and neither are the professors or administrators .
They are radical amoral leftists that use the term catholic as a front to further their cause .
The requirement to be catholic was dropped 60 years ago by places like Georgetown .
It’s a pr scam .

They’ve cut themselves off from Grace. It’s the only explanation I can think of.

When one leaves religion he or she comes under the illusion of having no religion. Wrong. That space God created for Himself inside us becomes a strong vacuum that sucks in whatever is handy. In many cases that’s Liberalism.Trouble is, liberalism is also a mental disorder - see Michael Savage’s book by that name.
