The Jews arriving after the war from ruined Europe were intercepted by British naval forces. British authorities held Jewish immigrants in detention camps on Cyprus from 1946 to 1949. This policy was part of an effort to deter Jewish immigration to Palestine, under British control, as was Cyprus. During that time over 53,000 Jews passed through the barbed wire camps, held against their will.

British documents about those camps were kept secret as classified documents for 60 whopping years; secrecy agreements prevented British employees from speaking out. After 60 years many of these documents have been declassified. Documentation is now available. Check them out (Google is your friend).

I saw on the news today that it was the 70th anniversary of the start of the Japanese interment in the U.S. I have no idea of the comparison of conditions between the Jews and the Japanese, but from what I can tell the Japanese don’t hate Americans. (Well, most of them were and are Americans as well....)

But thanks to both of you on your posts. I did a search on the gangs - interesting stuff, fighting the Brits before WWII to get them out of Palestine. And thanks for the old photos - amazing that they were freed, and then stuck behind barbed wire again.

Oh, I do. I am British, the nephew of a British soldier who served in Palestine 1945-47, and I am a history graduate who has studied that period. Elutheria5 and I regularly argue on FR about this period.

You said the Jews were held in concentration camps they had just left. As I pointed out that was not true. You are correct that the Jewish refugees were held in Cyprus and as I said also Italy. Some were held back in Austria and Germany. To suggest the British put them back in the type of murder camp is a very crude accusation and frankly shameful.

Just remember who fought Nazism from the start of ww2. Just remember the 300000 men and women from the UK and Ireland who died so your relatives could live and be free. Just remember the British set up a Jewish Brigade to fight, not the US or France or Canada. Instead of attacking Britain, frankly a little thanks might be nice.

I notice you ignored my substantial reference to the two Jewish/Zionist terrorist gangs. Elutheria5 sees them as heroes. Needless to say, I see them as terrorists and no different to the IRA.

I would actually like to discuss this without you and I calling each other insulting names. Is that possible?.
