Senator Scott Brown Exposes NOAAs Illicit $300,000 Party Boat (Video)
Last week, U.S. Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) filed a Freedom of Information Act request for an Inspector General report on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations (NOAA) illicit purchase and use of a $300,000 luxury fishing boat.
The request was granted, and Senator Brown spoke from the Senate floor to reveal the numerous abuses detailed in the previously unknown findings of the Inspector General.
The following are the Senator Browns remarks as prepared for delivery on the Senate floor:
Heres the transcript:
I rise today to inform you and the public of some highly disturbing information that Ive just learned about a broken agency within our federal government The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
We all know that Washington doesnt spend our money wisely. But sometimes it is worth highlighting examples of the corruption and waste.
Yesterday morning, I contacted the Commerce Department Inspector General to request a copy of their report on NOAAs purchase of a $300,000 luxury boat.
It would be bad enough if they had purchased this boat with taxpayer dollars.
But they didnt. They paid for it with money that should belong to our struggling fishermen. They paid for it out of the fines that fishermen pay into the pot when they mistakenly catch the wrong kind of fish. Those dollars are supposed to stay in fishing communities to help the fishermen.
Heres the boat. For a government vessel, thats pretty flashy. Take a look inside. Thats a fully-appointed bar, the latest in on-board entertainment systems, and leather furniture complete with the ice chest and tackle rack.
Furthermore, the fines that fishermen have been paying are putting fishermen out of business. The stories will break your heart.
Complete speech - YouTube Video
It is probably for their Bohemian Grove-type orgies. Power always corrupts most people. We have to get the power back into the hands of the people...and demolish many of these organizations. Clean them out—eliminate many—and make all the existing ones totally transparent.
You don’t lie!!!
There is no reason for the purchase of a boat like this. U.S. Customs and the Coast Guard seize plenty of craft for smuggling that could be used for its stated purpose. The question will be if NOAA ever intended to use it for its stated purpose. The rampant misuse of a government vehicle is inexcusable.
And imagine, as Sen. Brown reported, they have
more boats and cars than they have personnel
to use them.
Which would be pitiful if it weren't, in fact, so pitiful
The NOAA people were undoubtedly prepping that boat for her visit!
One would think that he would at least be prepared for his speech instead of stumbling along through the demonstration!
Good job, Senator.
If you use a jet-ski to rescue a friend drowning in huge surf, NOAA will write you a ticket for THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS:
It was bought with the proceeds of the 881 lb tuna a man caught and was seized by the feds which was worth nearly 1 million dollars.
I am half joking about it being bought with the proceeds of this fish. However, it is the same culprits, same state, and oddly just a few months afterwards.
You NEED to see the video posted up there..!
It makes you seem like a prophet, OMG..! WOW....
where is Purse Seine when you need him? sd
