The moment handcuffed woman, 20, was left brain dead after being Tasered for trying to escape police

A 20-year-old woman has been left brain dead - after she was Tasered by police and smacked her head on the ground. Danielle Maudsley had been taken to a Florida Highway Patrol Station after being arrested for a suspected hit-and-run in September. Handcuffed, she ran out of the door.

But as footage from a police cruiser dashboard camera reveals, Trooper Daniel Cole, who this week was cleared of any wrongdoing, fired a Taser's electric probes into her back.

She spun, fell backwards and hit her head on the ground. Bleeding and crying she tried to get up. She then blacked out and has remained unconscious ever since.

So you think the appropriate punishment for resisting arrest is death. Seems a bit extreme to me.

Lately it seems like the new penalty for leaving the scene of an accident or mouthing off to the cops is death.

Don’t forget that someone who is handcuffed can’t run too well. Cops used to work for a living. Now they taz people for fun. Cops should not be allowed tazers if they can’t used them responsibly. It’s is still a dangerous weapon. It’s not star trek’s phaser.

She tested positive for oxycodone and cocaine. She looked in ill health in the “before” picture. It’s possible that contributed to the brain injury.

Exactly, this video is a perfect example of what people who protest cops with tazers make, that they rely on them to do the job that they should not need them to do.

This woman was tazed with led directly to her falling unprotected onto concreate and cracking her head and killing her. Pure and simple.. yes, she chose to run, but the cops actions directly led to her injury, and to claim he has no culpability is nonsense. Let me tie your arms to your side and bind your legs together and then let me push over over backwards and crack your head on the pavement.

Tazers are meant to be the last resort option to DEADLY force, not the first resort option of lazy fat out of shape idiots! This was not remotely a deadly force situation, and a woman is dead thanks to an idiot. The fact that tazin would be “proper procedure” in such a situation, speaks volumes about the police district this fat ass works in. They and he are going to pay out big time and rightly should.

Facts of Life:

Bad things happen to bad people.
Good things happen to bad people.
Bad things happen to good people.
Good things happen to good people.

If this girl was not abusing drugs this “bad thing” would have never happened to her.

Just what warped world you live in I hope I never visit.

Relax. I'm sure you'll never visit that world. The real world. You just stay safely behind your keyboard and let the professionals deal with criminals. And while they do the jobs you are too weak to do, you be sure and criticize them,  mmm-kay?

A sad tragedy that she fell such that she incurred a brain injury...but, IMHO, that unfortunate consequence belongs completely to her.

Bullcrap. This was not a violent felon evading a felony arrest. He is too fat to run 50 feet. And she was handcuffed! Amazing how people back almost any action stupid cops make. FReepers should know better.

No one punished her with this. She caused it.

Watch the video, he was maybe 3 feet behind her when he tased her, he’s a fat lazy ass who frankly has no business being on the force IMHO.. If you can’t cover 3 feet between you and a 90 lbs woman and pull a tazer in that situation, you are a flat out disgrace. I don’t care what the review board says.

Based on that video, the review board was just protecting the thin blue line, nothing more. I truly hope this guy is absolutely fiscally destroyed in the courts and never allowed to wear a badge other than maybe mall guard again.

He should have blown her head off with his sidearm. This is the kind of trash that needs to be taken out.If it had been an illegal immigrant that committed the hit and run, you’d be screaming for their head on a pike. The cop has my support

Screw you. I served my country in uniform. "Weak" is what this stupid fat douchbag "cop" was - too weak, fat and lazy to pursue a 90 lb female skeleton who was handcuffed. He is a disgrace to his force - and they all know it, believe me.

“Correction - he is 267 lbs! This grossly obese lazy cop should be tasered the next time he opens a Twinkie.”

Welcome to the world of 2012. When I grew up (the 50’s) cops had to be at least 5'10’ and fit a weight profile. Generally they tended to be bigger than this. As a kid I remember walking downtown with my Mom and thinking that they must get giants to be cops. Ditto for firefighters who all tended to be large and fit.

But this doesn't allow us to be ‘inclusive’ and ‘open’ and provide ‘opportunity.’ Wait till you see a 5 foot nothing Hispanic female, almost as wide as she is tall, waddling around in a police uniform. Must really strike fear into the hearts of the criminals when she yells, “halt this is the police.”

Once upon a time fire fighters had to carry something like a 90 pound dummy down a ladder to simulate a rescue. There was a guy in our neighborhood who was from a family of fire fighters (Dad and two older brothers). He couldn't pass the carry test and therefore broke the family tradition. Now we have fire fighters that are more likely to need rescuing themselves than rescue anybody else.

But we are “inclusive.” Remember that the next time you're assaulted or trapped in a burning building. At least the person that's NOT helping you can be of any color, size, gender, or sexual orientation!
