Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, the 78-year-old CEO of casino giant Las Vegas Sands, certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino.

Is that fair? “I’m against very wealthy ­people attempting to or influencing elections,” he shrugs. “But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it. Because I know that guys like Soros have been doing it for years, if not decades. And they stay below the radar by creating a network of corporations to funnel their money. I have my own philosophy and I’m not ashamed of it. I gave the money because there is no other legal way to do it. I don’t want to go through ten different corporations to hide my name. I’m proud of what I do and I’m not looking to escape recognition.”

Sheldon knows a winner when he sees one. Newt Gingrich is the only hope of this country changing it's course immediately. His record of accomplishments for THIS COUNTRY is immense. His record of conservatism is also without equal in today's field of politicians. I have followed his activities since he was elected to his second term in congress. He always made sense and was very logical in his solutions to problems. He converted the congress from Dumbocrats to Republican for the first time in 40 years by thoughtful and well planned solutions to an otherwise impossible task. He sacrificed himself for the good of the country and the party, and no one gives him credit for it. The crap that is focused on when one examines them are meaningless. So what if he was married three times, at least he got married. He didn't rape anyone or have his staff perform sexual favors for him. The public seems to think that's ok. If this country knows what's good for it, it will follow Sheldon's money!!!.

i am glad to see Newt getting the support. I have read that Adelson has an economic interest here, protecting his casino profits against lawful on-line gambling, which Mitt supporter Trump is advocating.

What about so-called campaign finance reform by none other than the tyrant Juan McCain? That unconstitutional piece of legislation limits our individual political voices but conveniently allows the likes of this. This, in my view, is the outrage.

Newt probably is well able to get the job done, so that's not the point. But it is (one more) indictment on McCain, and Bush for signing it, IMO.

Adelson doesn’t say he’s give $100 million to anyone but Newt. Your complaint is with the headline writer from Forbes.

No. He shares the same primary goal. Replacing Obama with a Republican other than Ron Paul. His preference, which is obvious if you follow the timeline of his donations, is Newt. He’s been with him right along. Even in politics, sometimes a rose is just a rose.

So - one must ask - how has Adelson benefitted from Newt, or what is he expecting from a Newt presidency, to be willing to bet $100million?

Is he a major shareholder of a company that moved manufacturing to Mexico (NAFTA)?

Or does he expect some future special favors?
