How can it be that Pennsylvania, the state with the most precious historical legacy of all, has produced only one president?
This is the land of Thomas Paine and Benjamin Franklin, the Declaration of Independence, George Washington crossing the Delaware, Valley Forge, the U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights, the most pivotal battle in the Civil War, three cities that served as the nation's capital, etc.
And the best we could do in 223 years is James Buchanan, widely considered to be one of worst presidents America ever had?
Robert P. Casey Virginia has had eight presidents, including three of our greatest Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison although William Henry Harrison grew up in Ohio after being born in Virginia, and some feel that gives Ohio the right to claim eight. Even a historical chancre like Texas has more than Pennsylvania.

For those interested.
Newt Gingrich was born in Pennsylvania and lives in Virginia.
Okay, actually Santorum also lives in Virginia now, but it sounded better the other way.
Pennsylvania wasn't as big on politics as Virginia or Ohio or Massachusetts or New York or Texas were. Pennsylvanians were more interested in making money, raising their children, living their lives.
Some people have related that to the Quaker heritage. There's also the practical spirit of the Germans and Scots-Irish, who weren't as big on rhetoric as the English.
Damn.... call a "spade" a "SPADE"....
Samtorum and not some wooooosie fake from the Donkey party.... That is the solution......
Rick Santorum will never be Pennsylvania’s next President. He will lose in a landslide if he is nominated. If he gets the GOP nomination, Donald Trump will run on a Third Party and Santorum will come in third. (See my tagline.)
They haven't added Indiana yet. I'm hoping for the day when all 50 states lose their yellow and escape the tyranny of union thugs. Right to Work means Freedom!
Indiana is going to flip from Blue to Red in November also as Hoosiers will turn out bigtime to vote for Mike Pence for Governor and Richard Mourdock for Senate.
The first Pennsylvania-born President did such a great job it’s hard to understand how 156 years have gone by since a Pennsylvania native won the Presidency.
I may be way too optimistic but with Indiana's turn to the right and with Right to Work a reality, there's actually a small glimmer of hope for places like Gary. I see enterprising individuals and corporations fleeing the union goons and political tugs of Chicago and setting up shop in nearby places along Lake Michigan. Sure, it's a dream but perhaps not so far-fetched now as it was before Indiana got on track.
Btw, how many presidents were born in Michigan?
I’m sure the Texans here will be thrilled with that horse sh*t.
I believe you’re right.
Just the stuff we’ll steal from Mich, Oh, and Ill is enough to have a pretty prosperous state.
Caterpillar shutting down their union locomotive factory in Canada and moving it to Muncie is a good indicator of what we’ll see.
Don’t be too hasty to call Buchanan one of America’s worst presidents.
Obama hasn’t finished his term yet.
I can't think of any off the top of my head. And Romney won't be the first.
Zero. Gerald Ford was born in Omaha, Nebraska as Leslie King, Jr.
I wonder who Dede Scozzafava is backing.
I call BS on your post.
Even a historical chancre like Texas
Paul C. you’re taking a mighty wide stance hombre.
And I’m not even FROM Texas.
Well, Obama might end up the worst - but he’ll always be the second gay president.
Good grief. I can feel the bad dreams already!
Santorum is just another megalomaniac lawyer fraud who voted against my right to work without paying a communist union thug for the privilege.
Eff him and his SWEATER VEST.
“Rick Santorum is so out of touch with the real world. He needs to learn when to shut up”
And so do you, no dems.
Classy Freepin’ talk, Romie.
I agree with him. Rick Santorum is out of touch with real conservatives in this country. He is surging primarily on the perception of conservatism and not on the reality of it.
Newt & Paul, however . . .
Santorum 2012 ping.
Along with what percentage of the Congress-critters?
You know nothing about Rick Santorum or why he is surging. This “real”Conservative likes him and his ability to stand up for his truths,,which are also God’s truths.
Hopefully, you and the other negative posters on this site will be surprised to see that Tea Party Conservatives and many more in Michigan, Arizona and other upcoming primary states are in his corner too.
God bless you, Rick!
The exact opposite of Newt.
“This realConservative likes him and his ability to stand up for his truths,,which are also Gods truths.”
I am not Catholic, and I do not agree that he is in line with “God’s truths.” Since you want to get religious, I’ll say that Catholicism denies the essentials of salvation. It denies that one can be saved through faith that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again. It requires baptism, and many other ‘sacraments’, including submission to the Pope, as necessary requirements for your soul to achieve paradise. It is not a free gift, but something that can only be gained by jumping through many Papal hoops.
The religious argument is a losing argument, since not everybody likes to be preached to by some political leader using it to score cheap political points instead of offering an actual platform.
blah, blah, blah.
Your response is too boring to read.
Read some other posters responses to your vitriol. See that they think you’re creepy too.
...the best we could do in 223 years is James Buchanan, widely considered to be one of worst presidents America ever had...
“Read some other posters responses to your vitriol. See that they think youre creepy too.”
You’re projecting. It gets creepy when I’ve seen multiple Santorum supporters sit around saying things quite similar to you, equating Santorum with Godliness, “Santorum’s truth is God’s truth!”, and suggesting those who do not agree are atheists or have some other defect, nevermind legitimate platform issues.
The cult of personality is what got Obama elected, and I used to think that conservatives were above it. I used to think their support and praise for certain candidates was based on actual achievements and reasoned assessments.
Boy, was I wrong.
If you want to go Holy Messiah Santorum on me, I’ll be happy to shoot you down everytime.
As I said, CREEPY!
FReepmail Antoninus to be added or removed.
Matthew 16:18 “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church.”
If you got a problem with the Church I guess you’ll have to take that up with Christ.
And Peter wrote down what that 'rock' was the church would be built upon... the keys of Peter were placed into writing!!!! It was not a locksmith operation given to Peter wherein every generation or so got the authority from Christ to cut new keys.
With all due respect, dupree, I'm Roman Catholic, like Santorum and Gingrich, but that doesn't mean that my Church has to be the only true Church for everyone else, even though I might so think and believe.
Our Founders made certain to make Freedom of Religion the First Admendment in Our Bill of Rights.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
“If you got a problem with the Church I guess youll have to take that up with Christ.”
I’ll take it up with Peter himself:
8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
9If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ is what is referenced to. Christ Himself is the rock, the foundation and the head of the real Church. The gifts of wisdom, discernment, the “keys of the kingdom of heaven”, were given to all the Apostles, who were given the Holy Spirit to bind whom they will and free whom they will.
But actually, I just realized this wasn’t the religious thread I was debating on in a different area. I brought it up here only because it was used in a political way, as if Saint Rick was the new Pope, given the keys of heaven by Peter.
Gingrich is a Catholic, and I have no reason to think that he is an inferior Catholic. The difference is that Newt is running on an actual platform. Whereas Saint Rick has to embrace these emotional arguments.
