Clouds around the world may be falling in response to rising global temperatures and having a cooling effect on global warming, according to analysis of satellite data by Auckland University scientists.

The first 10 years of data from the NASA Terra satellite, which uses nine cameras at different angles to produce a stereo image of the world's clouds, shows their average height has lowered by about 1 per cent, or 30 to 40 metres.

Most of the reduction was due to fewer clouds occurring at very high altitudes, says the study, published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

Since I am recording changes in climate since the sunspot activity began to taper off in 2004, this article has an interest to me for about a year ago, another scientist recorded that humidity has dropped in the upper atmosphere. Also, scientists on both sides of the man-made global warming argument note a reduction in hurricane actiivty.

I wonder when we will see the Polar Region Ice Caps begin to regain mass?

I wonder when higher elevation and higher latitude glaciers will start speeding up?

This is going to be an interesting solar sunspot minimum.

Fewer high altitude cirrus clouds means less "warming." More low altitude clouds, from increased surface evaporation probably,(precipitation has been slowly increasing over the years,) means cooling as well. Looks like the usual GCMs are toast once again.

From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions i recall.
I really don’t know clouds at all.

During the low sunspots in the cycle, atmosphere/ionosphere shrinks, gets more dense, more pronounced changes in the weather. It is because Sun's activity and the morons can do nothing about it, just create the scare to raise taxes as the Sun shines up and down!
We are just coming out of one of the deepest sunspot minimum.

Huh? "In a 'negative feedback mechanism', lower cloud height would allow the Earth to cool to space more efficiently, reducing the surface temperature of the planet and potentially slowing the effects of global warming.

'We don't know exactly what causes the cloud heights to lower but it must be due to a change in the circulation patterns that give rise to cloud formation at high altitude,' Prof Davies said.

Apparently this professor has been asleep for the past eight to ten years. Either that or he has deliberately ignored the growing mounds of verifiable evidence that in fact there has been no global warming taking place in the reality. The models with the manipulated raw data from ground stations and other sources then pumped into a bunch of inadequate modeling statistical man handling simulations over the years had produced inaccurate and very misleading charts.
There has been no global warming taking place of any significance for a long time.

It is nice having some moisture back, even though the rain is still way behind.

Add lower clouds to the thousands of things caused by global warming. It's not that the clouds are actually lower, it's just that there are fewer high achievers. It's like lower student test scores. Humans aren't actually getting dumber, the government is just subsidizing low achievers to have more children.

The sun and clouds are the biggest drivers of climate, but biomass has a huge buffering effect. Some ocean algae emit a chemical that actually controls cloud cover to their liking. For every human there is 200 tons of biomass buffering the climate.
