Patton: 1965 'Tangle of Pathology' is a 2012 Reality

As the national media and the establishment of both parties begin their obligatory mocking of Rick Santorum — arguably the new GOP frontrunner — for his passionate yet well-reasoned defense of innocent human life, traditional marriage, fidelity, monogamy and conservative family values, it is worth noting that he is absolutely right about the havoc the sexual revolution and the welfare state have wrought upon America.

In 1965, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, then a Labor Department official, released an alarming report about the number of black children born to unwed mothers. The percentage at that time was 25 percent. In the years that followed, Moynihan went on to become a United States Senator from New York, and the percentage of out-of-wedlock births among African-American mothers soared to today's level of 73 percent.

That is higher than the rate during the years when parts of America still practiced slavery. Ponder that fact for a moment. In 1850, when black men, women and children in several of the states could be ripped from their loved ones and sold as property, a higher percentage of their children were being born and raised in marriage-based, two parent families than there are a century and half later, in 2012.

This troubling fact is reflective of what Moynihan once called "a tangle of pathology." Indeed. And in 2012 that tangle has ramifications for every aspect of society, as the percentage of unwed white mothers has risen sharply to rates higher than the ones that so alarmed Moynihan about blacks in the 1960s. In fact, the combined rates for unwed American mothers of all races have climbed to a staggering 41 percent.

In the case of women under age 30, the rate now stands at 53 percent.

The tangle of pathology that Moynihan feared has come to pass, and Santorum is right to point out the catastrophic results. He tells us the truth about all the terrible consequences of these pathologies — and yet it is he, not Barack Obama, who is ridiculed for his values. Why? Santorum fought in the United States Senate for the sanctity of innocent human life. Obama fought in the Illinois Legislature to allow abortionists the right to kill babies after they have been born. Which man shares your values?

Santorum believes in traditional marriage, and pledges to fight for it as president. Obama thinks homosexuals should be allowed to marry each other, as evidenced by the fact that he has instructed his Justice Department not to defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act in the courts. Which one represents you?

Santorum believes that religious institutions should not be forced to pay for contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs that violate their beliefs. Obama believes that a woman's "right" to these drugs free of charge trumps the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Which is the greater threat to your liberty?

Santorum believes that each and every human life should be precious in our eyes because that life is precious in the eyes of God. Obama says he doesn't want his daughters "punished with a baby." Whose view do you share?

Santorum knows that children born to a woman who gets at least a high school education and waits until after she is married to become pregnant are far less likely to end up in poverty. Obama wants as much poverty as he can foster, because it allows him to be the savior of all the victims he has created. Whose America is your America?

Santorum believes individuals have the right to choice in education, choice in health care, choice in employment. "Choice" for Obama only applies to abortion. What's your choice?

A 53 percent out-of-wedlock birth rate among America's young women is as unsustainable as Obama's profligate spending. I cannot imagine a starker contrast than nominating Rick Santorum to oppose Barack Obama in November. It would be a clash of values like none we have seen in our lifetime. Nothing less than the future of the country and the next generation is at stake.

Socialism fails as a political-economic system and as a religion.

Looks like it’s Moynihan’s fault.

In 1965, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, then a Labor Department official, released an alarming report about the number of black children born to unwed mothers. The percentage at that time was 25 percent...even Bob Beckel, leftwing blowhard extraordinaire, was outraged at the high percentage of unwed births on "The Five" today - and he put the level at seventy-seven pecent in the black community - the issue may be taking hold.....

“....the percentage of out-of-wedlock births among African-American mothers soared to today’s level of 73 percent.”

Hey, don’t knock it, it is a business and it keeps you off the streets.

Remember, it the culture of the mother and father and not their skin color.... seriously.
