The U.N. nuclear agency acknowledged renewed failure Wednesday after a trip to probe suspicions of covert Iranian nuclear weapons work, in a statement issued just hours after an Iranian general warned of a pre-emptive strike against any foe threatening the country.
The double signs of defiance reflected Tehran's continued resistance to demands that it defuse suspicions about its nuclear activities despite a growing list of international sanctions.
The International Atomic Energy Agency made little progress in talks that ended just three weeks ago, and hopes had been low that a visit by IAEA experts to Iran that ended late Tuesday would be any more successful even before the agency issued its statement.
It was issued early Wednesday, shortly after midnight and just after the IAEA experts left Tehran, reflecting the agency's urgent wish to tell its side of the story.
As the two-day trip was winding down, Iranian officials sought to cast it in a positive light, with foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast telling reporters that "cooperation with the agency continues and is at its best level."
Iran's top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, insisted the Islamic Republic is not seeking nuclear weapons, saying they are "useless, harmful and dangerous," but did not mention the visit by the IAEA experts.

yet this morning at the WSJ they encourage “stronger negotiations”...
What is needed now is for Nobel Peace Prize winner, Obama to fly to Tehran and sign an agreement with I’mnutjob and return in triumph waving the agreement and declare “...peace in our time...”. That strategy worked so well with Hitler.
When is the next new moon?
That's already the best line of bull I'm likely to hear today.
The threat of preemptive strike does not settle an uneasy feeling that we are on the brink of being instantly involved, in theater, in a regional war unlike any seen before. The Israelis are waiting only for the ground. Oddly, the civil war already underway in Syria is slowing things down but also plays to Israeli advantage, I would think, in keeping one border foe vital to the supply lines of its Iranian puppet enemies crippled.
This is an existential question for the Israelis, and the tension all along this fault line is definitely in a "pre-earthquake" condition, and building.
Sobering, to say the least. Not least among the reasons being the incompetent commander of our armed forces and the utopian coven "running things" over at State.
There's got to be a split in this administration between those hoping for a "game-changer," to distract the American voter and press, and perhaps a handful among this insane posse with enough clarity to at least appear sober, if only to impress potential sexual partners, and who hazily understand the price in human lives on the line.

The best level for Iran, non-cooperation, no access,
while their best and brightest work night and day
for the destruction of Israel and ourselves.
Iran has been at war with us since the embassy takeover
and has stated as such for thirty years, and still
there are people who won’t believe them.
I hope Israel turns them to glass and ruin, and
if any should retaliate, they should be slagged
It’s time to turn the world right side up.
