Russia warns Israel not to attack Iran
Reuters ^ | Feb. 22, 2012 | Alexei Anishchuk

Posted on 02/22/2012 1:41:23 PM PST by Free ThinkerNY

(Reuters) - Russia warned Israel on Wednesday that attacking Iran would be a disastrous and played down the failure of a U.N. nuclear agency mission to Tehran, saying there is still a chance for new talks over the Iranian atomic program.

"Of course any possible military scenario against Iran will be catastrophic for the region and for the whole system of international relations," Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told a news conference.

It was one of Russia's starkest warnings against resorting to force, an option Israel and the United States have not ruled out if they conclude that diplomacy and increasing sanctions will not stop Iran from developing a nuclear bomb.

"I hope Israel understands all these consequences ... and they should also consider the consequences of such action for themselves," Gatilov said. "I hope a realistic approach will prevail, along with a sensible assessment."

This is end-of-the-age stuff right here (Ezekiel 38 & 39).

I'm not informed about Russia's relationship to Iran. What is Russia's strategic interest (dependency?) in Iran?

There might not be a viable alternative. If Iran develops nukes, Saudi Arabia has already said it will follow suit. The last thing that region needs is WMDs that are 1 coup away from being in the hands of Islamic Jihadist lunatics...

They don’t have much of an Air Force anymore let alone a massive armada of modern tanks. They can only depend on nuclear weapons. That is the bad part since our chicken politicians are dismantling ours.

Conventionally, we can still kick the crap out of both Russia and Iran. Get those F-22s ready if everyone is really ready to rumble.

Saudi Arabia probably already has a lot of nuclear weapons.

As does Pakistan, which is a red carpet sanctuary for a whole lot of terrorist groups.

Now is the best time to strike Iran.

With all the changes in government in the Middle East, the players are unorganized, struggling, broke and impotent.

No one is going to come to the defense of Iran.

An overwhelming missle and bomb strike would go unanswered.

I'm not an expert either, and I asked the same question about China and Iran. Certainly they couldn't care less about Iran, right? Indeed, doesn't Iran's Islamic militancy encourage seperatists in both Russia and China??

I think it comes down to 1) basic Anti-Americanism and fear of US hegemony. 2) "the USA's loss is my gain" sort of thinking 3) fear that any change in Iran's Gov't will put them into a US "orbit." 4) need for "independent" energy suppliers able to poke the West in the eye.

That’s easy. All we need to do is tell Russia we will not hassle Syria. We will keep NATO from getting involved in Syria. And we will not arm the rebels in Syria. Ask Russia to ask Assad to ask Iran for all the manpower they can send.

In return Iran’s mullahs belong to us after we blow the hell out of their nuclear facilities.

Search `Russia warns on Iran’ and just change one letter:
http://articles.latimes.com/2002/feb/15/news/mn-28168

That’s how it works: The Russ warn, then their T-72s start blowing up like pinatas, and the next thing you know we’re short another tin-pot muzzie oligarchy.
WWIII
As long as the Rooskies talk the terrorist-fight talk, but walk the supporting-terrorists walk, they draw a line and we (civilized people) cross it. The Russ sell more weapons, we’re rid of uncivilized people who can’t be trusted with nukes ... but wait, there’s more.
Our wild-eyed religious maniacs get a big kick out of frightening women, children and horses anticipating the end of the world, which of course never happens.
So it’s win-win-win all around, except of course for the muslim religious maniacs. Because they’re either dead or glowing in the dark.
WWII
The people who shaved the sides of their heads, Teutonic peoples, were hungry for a good square meal, sick of bloody sausages, fermented kraut and warm beer. And they tired of hirsute women, wanting ladies with shaved legs and armpits.
Consequently, the blockheads .....

That is ludicrous. Iran would have no chance in a strike from the U.S. or Israel. Their infrastructure would be completely destroyed by a strike from missiles alone. They are nothing more than blustering idiot ragheads thinking Allah will cause them to prevail. That is the video game and photoshop level of their ability. The reality of things came to Saddam too.

Nobody does

A LOT of people do. Look at all of the religious references in the comments already.

Many fantasize about an "end times" war and get jazzed about it.

If they get what they want, tens of millions - in Western Civilization, let alone the Middle East - will die horribly as the whole thing escalates to a previously-unprecedented scale.

And those who pursued it by falsely claiming Christianity as a rationale will be looking for a new messiah amongst the radioactive rubble, and will not find one.

I thought up until recently that Israel would make a pre-emptive strike.
I now think it more likely that The Great Middle East War will begin with a missile
barrage against Israel from Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. With so many bio and chem
weapons having been unleashed upon the world because of the Arab spring fiasco
it will be too tempting to use the liberated Libyan and Syrian weapons and so
they will be fired at Israel.

Israel will respond with a barrage of neutron weapons to kill everything near
all enemy launch sites. Rinse/repeat as needed.

Israel will then take off the gloves, she will at that moment stand on the world stage
as a strategic equal with the USA, Russia, China and France in the ability to deliver
city buster thermonuclear weapons on any city in the world. Israel has the nuclear
stockpile and the delivery systems to place them directly on any location. the fact that
Russia has far more deliverable nuclear weapons only means they can make the rubble
bounce longer...it does not mean their arsenal is more powerful since Israel can
if pushed destroy all large Russian cities.

Israel will point the finger of blame for the use of the chem/bio weapons at Iran
since it will be Iran’s proxies firing them.

Israel will IMO at this point utterly destroy south Lebanon and the major cities of
Syria and Iran. You simply do not get to walk away from an attempt to once again
gas the Jews.

The great danger at this point, with Iran, Syria and Lebanon destroyed is that Russia
could make the mistake of moving against Israel... this would be the start of a world war.

IMO Israel probably has battlefield neutron weapons and selectable yield thermonuclear weapons that can be delivered by sub launched cruise missiles, cruise missiles launched from stealthy long-range drones, and also deliverable worldwide using the same launch vehicles they use to orbit satellites. No city can be protected from such an arsenal using today’s anti-missile technology.

Some people kid themselves that the Israeli arsenal is rather low tech compared to Russia’s or ours. Don’t be fooled, after all it was basically a bunch of Jews that created nuclear tech back in the 40’s. Nuclear ambiguity
has been Israel’s tactic for decades but I don’t doubt what they are capable of.

I think you hit on the point. Russia will make big bucks when oil skyrockets after the oil is shut off from the middle east.

Of course we could build a nice pipeline that would assist us to become oil/energy independent, but that is too hard for our winner of a President to see as a security issue.

I say $15/gal by Aug. (not premium either)
