Jurors on Wednesday found former University of Virginia lacrosse player George Huguely V guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend, NBC News reported.
Huguely of Chevy Chase, Md., was charged in the death of 22-year-old Yeardley Love, whose body was found battered, bleeding and bruised in the bedroom of her Charlottesville apartment in the early hours of May 3, 2010.
The jury of seven men and five women also found Huguely guilty of grand larceny but not guilty on four other charges: felony murder in the commission or attempted commission of a robbery; robbery; burglary - breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny; and statutory burglary - breaking and entering with intent to commit assault and battery.

George Huguely is going to be very, very popular in prison for at least the next ten years. But it’ll come at a heavy price. He’ll likely get a dose of his own medicine, being beaten to a pulp by a jealous boyfriend who doesn’t take “no” for an answer.

Not directed at you, but why is it a “lacrosse” murder? How did “lacrosse” become some sort of nefarious word when we all know that the “original” lacrosse players were innocent?
I was thinking the same thing.
What did the fact that he played lacrosse have to do with it?

“Lacrosse” is mentioned to remind folks male lacrosse players are racist animals from priviliged families, and those players are all known as abusers of women. (see also Nifong)
It is a shot at the Duke athletes, but you will never see the MSM mention the charges were all trumped up, evidence ignored or fabricated to make the players look guilty, or the FACT that Chrystal Magnum was a lying, perjurious murderer (although she didn’t graduate to murdering till after the Duke incident).
In short, the “Lacrosse” reference is intended to prejudice the jury against the defendant.
He acted like an animal, but what he did has nothing to do with the Duke trials.
Why is lacrosse being put on trial here? If they guy was a soccer player or accountant, that would be in the headline. It’s like lacrosse is something sinister.
Maybe it’s intended to ballyhoo the “trial by media” but come on, the victim here was as white as the perpetrator.
On the other hand, it is an uphill struggle for some punk with a "V" after his name to convince anyone he is not a cheesy narcissistic psychopath.
Race was only one of the Duke issues. It was as much about “degrading women” as anything else, in the media’s eyes.
It could be that. Or it could be that both the murderer and his victim played lacrosse and that their friends all knew each other from playing lacrosse in high-school and that the school he played lacrosse at has a famous lacrosse program.

But I’m not gonna feel too sorry for this sack of crap, what he needs is a trip to the guillotine, not prison.

The lacrosse reference is because both of them were on lacrosse teams at the school.
