Sears Holdings Corp. listed 16 more stores it will close, including five Sears and Kmart sites in Illinois.
The closures include a full-line Sears store in downstate Alton; a Sears Grand store in northwest suburban McHenry; and three Kmart stores in west suburban Oak Lawn, north suburban Zion and Peru, in north central Illinois.
The full list is available on Sears' website.
The additional closings came hours after the money-losing retailer announced dismal fourth-quarter and full-year earnings, and about two months after the Hoffman Estates-based company first announced it would shutter 120 stores.
So far, the Hoffman Estates-based company has identified 95 of the targeted stores.
At $300 for a full cart of groceries and gasoline edging towards $4.00 per gallon, who has money to spend on anything else??

Will corps like Amazon be the new Sears stores?
But all I hear on the ABC nightly news is how the economy is roaring back.
Is this the fault of Bush/Cheney?
Sears, the store I paid $7000 bucks for a 25 MHZ comuter. Yes you read that right: A computer with a 25 MEGAhertz processor. Couldn’t pay them all at once, just the minimum for years and years and years. Just typing your name on that thing would crash it.
They are selling 11 Sears stores in General Growth owned malls to General Growth. I guess the deal was: “We can’t afford to pay rent any more, do you want them?”
Bought my very first computer at Sears, ages and ages ago. An IBM PS2, as I recall. I used to work there, and got a good deal on a floor model; worked great for quite a while, too, but of course, I needed to upgrade eventually.
Can’t recall how much I paid for it, but I do know it wasn’t cheap. Took me awhile to pay it off.
Someone years ago said; “So goes Sears, so goes the Country.” Whoever said it must have had a working crystal ball.
I think I remember with mine, less than a month later right after I bought it, it was outdated, meaning I couldn’t run any programs that were just published. I think that was about 1990 or 91. Could have even been ‘88 or ‘89. I should have taken it back right then. Freakin thing has the calculating speed of a digital watch.
One good thing though is after I paid it off (after like 10 or 12 years), my credit score shot to the stratosphere as if the credit companies were saying: “W-What? He paid $7000 for a calculator?? He paid the absolute minimum for 10 years?”
I use to actually get $5000 checks in the mail from credit companies saying if I cashed their check I agreed to their loan. Very tempting.
That is exactly what happened to the housing market crash. They sent those “$5000 checks” (although much higher money) to people who had the credit score of a squid. And incredibly, Barney Frank wanted banks to do it again after the disaster.
Just another example how liberals truly want to destroy the country or are just incredibly insane. Let one lib prove me wrong. “Everyone deserves a house”...Oh, so in other words, the carpenters, the electricians, the architect, the landowner, the initial owner of the house should all say “F it” work for nothing and burn their money “Here is a free house” using the logic that Wall street CEOs get a big bonus which is like saying “The poor should get a free house because Captain crunch is a good cereal”
The malls are all dying a slow death. The mall nearest me has ZERO anchor stores and ZERO restaurants and ZERO book stores now. There’s still a few fast food joints operating in the food court but they are not big name brands anymore. They are little mom&pop one of a kind type shops.
THIS SIMPLY CANNOT BE TRUE....
NBC Evening News told me, just minutes ago, that the economy is “Roaring Back!”.
HOW CAN THIS BE????

Simply put, Illinois placed more people on the unemployment rolls than any other state in the country.”
Add to that fine record the news above from Sears.
And still the brain-dead denizens of this state will put donkey after donkey after donkey into the state offices. California is heading straight down the toilet, but here in Illinois we’ll be racing them down the rat-hole the entire way.
Our Kmart is a ghost town since Wal-Mart opened; I actually don’t mind going now, but they have far fewer employees and a lot of space on their shelves (I could have sworn they were closing soon - there is another Kmart about 2 miles away in the opposite direction of the Wal-Mart that still does OK). It seems the jewelry counter person calls for someone to staff electronics when four or more people are there; until that number is reached, you mill about waiting for someone to come work the counter (occasionally casting hopeful looks at passing shoppers to help push you up to the magic number “4”).
Our malls are dying as well; any vacancies are filled by tattoo parlors (in a mall?) or those Goth-type clothing & accessory stores. After watching an Asian try on a pair of shoes in one of the anchor stores with bare feet (he was wearing sandals), I haven’t gone back.
Malls were doomed once they attracted the kind of people most of us never want to run into.
When is the last time anybody has seen a Die Hard battery or Craftsman tool commercial?
The mall near me isn’t filling any vacancies. I’d say they are down to 50% occupancy now.

I just bought another die hard. Always get them when the stock battery goes on the car. Great batteries.
I bought my last car off the lot new in Jun of 09. The battery was dead and they had to jump start it to take it detailing. I’ll get a replacement before next winter. I’ll just do it at the dealer since they will need to reprogram a few things..
