The White House today defended President Obamas decision to apologize for the recent incident of Koran burning at a U.S. airbase in Afghanistan, saying it was wholly appropriate given the understandable sensitivities to the issue.
The error was inadvertent, Obama wrote in a letter to his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai, according to Karzais office. I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible.
Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, however, said it was an outrage for the president to issue an apology on the same day two U.S. troops were killed by Afghan soldiers.
It is Hamid Karzai who owes the American people an apology, not the other way around, Gingrich said in a written statement. This destructive double standard whereby the United States and its democratic allies refuse to hold accountable leaders who tolerate systematic violence and oppression in their borders must come to an end.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney defended the apology.
[The president's] primary concern as Commander-in-Chief is the safety of American men and women in Afghanistan, of our military and civilian personnel there. And it was absolutely the right thing to do, Carney told reporters.
The improper disposal of the sacred text of Islam have sparked anti-U.S. riots in Afghanistan.
The actions here, while inadvertent, do not reflect the great respect that our military personnel have for the religious traditions of the Afghan people, Carney said...

how about apologizing to the American people for the downward spiral he’s put us in? When do WE THE PEOPLE get an apology?
bammy is disgusting, but Karzai knows he’s a dead man if he doesn’t bitch.
This administration will only stand up to what is right and never to violent Islam or radical liberalism.
Here's what I wrote on my page earlier today:
FR Thread: HERE
This is Obama saying the Military "acted stupidly." It sounds like some of our guys are going to have their careers destroyed to appease the mob.
Apologize, apologize, apologize. The word sorry seems to be Obama’s favorite. It fits the man well since he’s the sorriest excuse for a President we’ve ever had.
No apology from Obama to the American people for him burning our Constitution?
He has five more years to take care of that problem.
Now that obama has apologized the muslims will never want to kill any of our soldiers again. sarc
President Newt Gingrich—”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Our side generally sits on the ropes and lets the left wail away, thinking that at some point they'll have their turn to respond. It doesn't work that way. Like in boxing, if you let them run up points you eventually get stuck in a situation in which you need a knockout to win, and it's hard to score a knockout when the media is doing the counting.
Would Obama ever apologize for someone burning the American flag?
A criminal traitor.
Gingrich and Palin seem to be the only folks to call him out.
“The improper disposal of the sacred text of Islam have sparked anti-U.S. riots in Afghanistan.”
Does it involve urinating onn them and or covering them with pig’s blood first?
I’m not sure if folks remember it or not, but schools actually taught out of the Koran for months after the 09/11 attack. Our grade school kids were even required to dress up like a jihadist, and role play. It as chilling to read about.
Did anyone complain about church and state then? Hell no.
At the same time, our kids weren’t and aren’t allowed to carry a Bible on campus, or turn in reports that touch on the life of Christ.
Apologize? Hell, it’s more like surrender.
“The improper disposal of the sacred text of Islam”
I sincerely APOLOGIZE for the over quote. Very sorry.
President Newt Gingrich, Vice President Sarah Palin.
Fuel prices do indeed fall to the campaign promises.
And America has a new policy about apologies, its called....
Once again, the White Hut is defending the indefensible.
Obvious apologist is obvious.
LOVE IT!!!!! LOL!!!
Anyone else out there hearing Vietnam-era ghost whispers in this, besides me?
I wasn’t very attentive back then but from what I’ve learned since, this is the same type of propaganda that was stirred up to embarrass the US and label the very people who came to the aid of an oppressed people.
And what hypocrites those people are! No one forces an apology when they step on and burn our flag or our Bible. It’s as much an offense to us as koran burning is to them.
I say F’m...bring out military home where they can protect us. I’m tired of hearing about our men & women dying for back-stabbers.
