Gingrich Pledges $2.50 Gas, Obama: 'It's Easy to Make Phony Promises'

Obama sought to deflect growing Republican attacks over rising prices at the pump, blaming recent increases on a mix of factors beyond his control, including tensions with Iran, hot demand from China, India and other emerging economies, and Wall Street speculators taking advantage of the uncertainty.

President Barack Obama hit back on Thursday at election-year Republican criticism of his energy policies, offering a staunch defense of his attempts to wean Americans off foreign oil and saying there is no "silver bullet" for high gasoline prices.

U.S. gasoline prices have jumped nearly 9 cents in the past week to an average of $3.61 a gallon, and are expected to rise further toward the crucial $4 mark through the summer driving season and the approach of the Nov. 6 election.

This is amazing. Obama says it’s easy to make promises? And who would know better.

If we had a balanced media, he’d be shredded for that comment.

Mr "I'll cut the deficit in half" then he doubles it.

Yeah, he knows what he's talking about here.

Let’s see: No domestic drilling, seal off the Gulf of Mexico while the Chinese drill for the Cubans, block the Keystone Pipeline, restrict refineries, demand special blends of oil that don’t exist, refuse to allow drilling in Alaska. It seems that those who control the flow of oil can jack up the price anytime they want, since we have told them we will pay anything through our policies.

Convert many of our vehicles to natural gas, free up domestic drilling, start drilling in the Gulf of Mexico close to the Chinese, allow drilling in Alaska, approve the Keystone Pipeline, start building refineries, and cut the blended gasoline insanity, and gas will drop to $1.50 per gallon.

Newt Gingrich has to be careful when he talks about bringing back $2.50/gallon gasoline. The way the Federal Reserve and other Central Banks are printing money, in a year or two it might take $10.00 to buy what $2.50 currently buys. The point being that there is a monetary side to the oil problem as well as a oil supply problem.

Just goes to show who Obama is really scared of winning the nomination....NEWT GINGRICH.

NEWT is the ONLY one talking about this, and has the answers.

AND....

Get rid of ethanol and we increase the mileage of every vehicle by 10-15%.

Exactly.

Without any threat on the Middle East supply of oil,the price of a barrel of oil will increase in proportion to the value of the dollar. I believe the vast increase in the cost of a barrel of oil (in US dollars)is the direct result of the decrease in the value of the US dollar, not threats from Iran. Of course refining capacity in the US doesn’t help our efforts either.

“Get rid of ethanol and we increase the mileage of every vehicle by 10-15%.”

Not to mention the wear and tear on vehicles running ethanol. I still have to put stabilizer into my gasoline to store it for any length of time. Ethanol “enhanced” gasoline will really muck up an engine if left for a couple of months.

No doubt that monetary policy is the largest factor.

Obama: 'It's Easy to Make Phony Promises'

All groups opposed to Obama need to get a copy of this video and audio, and hammer him with it. This is almost as golden as Romney's "I like to fire people" comment.

Something like:

OBAMA: It's Easy to Make Phony Promises

ANNOUNCER: And he should know... Barack Obama has made promise after promise.

(splice in video clips of various broken/insincere Obama promises -- cutting the deficit in half, closing Gitmo, no SuperPACs, saying he'll accept the blame for the economy if he didn't turn it around in 3 years, etc.)

ANNOUNCER: However, he is keeping one promise.

(splice in clip of Obama saying that gas prices will rise to 8 as a result of his energy plan)

(Add tag appropriate to candidate/organization)
